    As someone who does both on body and off body carry I can say it really depends on what you are carrying it in. I have some tactical bags that give me instant access to my firearm. I also realize that carrying off body is much slower of a draw, so that is why I make sure I am aware of my surroundings. If I feel something is not right I put my hand in the pocket the gun is in so I can access it immediately if I need to. This is something that should be mentioned also.

    You forgot one.... the brain fart. You carry the gun in your purse and you're with a group and you're kind of in a hurry and you leave the purse in a restaurant with the gun in it. Now granted you may discover that fact by the time you get to your car and don't have your keys, but you left a loaded gun in your purse unattended out of your control. Bad. Very bad. Never carry off body. Never.

    It's not complete bullshit. I will admit many scenarios can be conceived of in a slanted manner but, there are people absent minded enough to leave their pistol unattended. Heck, people have left their babies on top of cars and driven off before. Some people off body concealed carry in a non intelligent way.

    I must admit, this video is a necessary one! Thanks for taking the time to show people that having any form of protection that's not easily accessible can likely cause an escalated incident that people do not expect. It'll end with the victim and the perpetrator fighting to gain control of the item for survival. If you get the permit, then carry it as best you can to access it in a moment's notice... it's pointless to do otherwise. Well done, a true PSA!

    A purse snatcher is going to run around the corner or into an alley before he rifles your bag; you are probably safe, but his next victim isn't. But I completely agree with your basic premise. I often carry a camera bag that actually has a quick access concealed carry pocket; I keep a notepad and the camera's instruction manual in it.

    I can understand that in a perfect situation a purse carry would work. People can argue they are situationally aware all of the time, but this is the real world and all we can do is try our best. The argument against is that if they take your purse and you are carrying on body, who cares? My life is worth more. If they rip it off of you, now you are unarmed and just gave a gun to a criminal. If someone knocked me over and wants to harm me not just take my bag, I could still access my pistol on body. Thanks for watching

    Look up the 2 year old shoots mom in the head in Idaho Walmart. The husband can't understand why people are giving him grief for letting her wife carry in the purse. His response was (paraphrasing - I bought the purse for here it was meant for conceal carry had a special pouch and everything its not like it was an everyday purse.) Its kind of like the every year you hear a kid falls into zoo exhibit. you have 3 kids with you under 5 and one parent surprised that one got away for a few seconds, unless you have help like a friend or relative or babysitter to come with you or super disciplined kids. Don't take your 3 kids of your 4 kids under 5 to the zoo when your gangster husband whose been in jail so many times they don't know if hes coming or going and your so obese you cant jog to even catch them if they got away from you and then you yell and scream and get the gorilla upset they have to shoot him. who saw that coming??? and she works in children's education can you believe that

    I have to say, your 21 foot action sequence is quite educational. As a retired LEO I can say that purse snatchers grab and run to a concealed location (close) rummage through the purse, take what they want then discard the purse.

    For the attacker. For the defender, that has all the same problems as drawing the gun. The only slight advantage is that the knife is dangerous in multiple directions, where the gun is dangerous only in one.

  • @Cab0408

    @Cab0408

    VanishingNomad My thinking is that the knife will be easier to get to while clipped to the waistband or on a neck chain. Especially in this situation, before your attacker has closed the distance. If you are caught off guard and are fighting in clinch range, drawing any weapon is a tricky proposition at that point.

    Michael C. A knife is a huge advantage over a gun at close distances.

  • @VanishingNomad

    @VanishingNomad

    7 жыл бұрын

    Michael C. , In my Silat classes, from back years ago, I learned that the knife has some advantages in a situation like this, for the reasons you mention "Slightly faster draw", and also what I mentioned, in that it is a threat in multiple directions, whereas a gun is only dangerous in one direction. The thing is, if you are being charged full throttle you have a draw and reaction time issue, that negates a LOT of the knives effectiveness, just as it does the gun. You simply can't properly deploy it under that kind of pressure. It gets even worse under realistic conditions where there is no warning (In the video above, he announces when he starts his run). Once some one is on you, they control your actions, and the knife is neutralized. Preventing them getting this control is where your hand to hand skills come in. The way we were taught, knife fighting IS hand to hand. All the same footwork, positioning and control are implemented. If someone is full on charging you, you can deal with it much faster and more reliably, in empty hand combat first. When you have taken the advantage away, cost them thier balance, taken position, and have forced them into a position where they have to recover, to continue the attack THAT is your window to draw the weapon. When you draw your weapon, you drop your defenses, and expose yourself to the attack. You can't do it too early. You have to trip them up and wait untill the opportune moment. When they are too busy with thier own balance to stop you, THEN you draw..

    While I understand where you're coming from and I agree with you for the most part, how many times did she practice/train the drawstroke from *that* bag before y'all used this as an example for if someone who trains for it can successfully do so or not?

    Exactly! I don't agree with purse carry (for me at least, because I don't like to keep a purse on me all the time, and it can be hard to draw), but the holster should be secured to the purse so you aren't drawing it out of the purse with the gun. And practice will make that draw fast.

    In his perfect world. Lets say she is a Nurse wearing scrubs, visits multiple patients homes and a couple of hospitals today. Not many options available between visits. For many tactical shoulder slings may be the best option. An in vehicle lockable safe and situational awareness while doing her visits. It's not a perfect world.

    As a fellow firearms instructor, I GREATLY APPRECIATE and VALUE the time and effort that you and Kim have put into making these VERY insightful and well thought out videos... and particularly in demonstrating effective training and carry techniques for the ....... gentler sex. This video brings up a VERY important issue for both men and women alike as men also may carry in a briefcase. One of my women students who daily arrives at her workplace at 5:15am when the area is virtually devoid of people or security, has been carrying in her purse .......... however, she DOES unholster her weapon and has it in her strong side hand hidden in the purse when transiting to and from the parking area until safely in a secure area in the building. My thought was that this IS a viable adaptation ................ but I would appreciate your analysis and thoughts also......... thanks for your time.......... and PLEASE ............ keep producing these great instructional videos !!!

    I would assume there is no possible way she can carry IWB which is why she is off body carrying in the first place (however I don't know what reason could be since she is taking her gun with her in the bag?). If my assumption is wrong, and it is just a personal decision show her this video- who knows many times another third party opinion makes a big difference. If she cannot then having the gun drawn in her hand in the bag seems like a reasonable option as long as she has perfect finger discipline. My concern (and I am sure yours as well) is accidentally pressing the trigger in the bag. Thanks for watching and commenting we appreciate your support!!

  • @geaugafirearmsacademy

    @geaugafirearmsacademy

    Great question this is really the big decision because there has to be "some" compromise when one takes on the huge responsibility to carry a firearm. I would recommend wearing yoga pants for - yoga. If someone is wearing yoga pants for appearance (because they have the body type and want to show it) why not wear the shortest jean shorts (or something like that) they want with an IWB holster and a shirt that is loose at the bottom. Thanks for watching!

    Not even a fair match, as you know. The '12 foot rule' also applies to people who have a holstered weapon. Unless you're VERY practiced in quick draw techniques, the 'perp' is going to win this contest every time.

    You're right. Poor choice of words on my part. I should have said that within 21 feet, the 'perp' in your scenario has a distinct advantage over the one trying to extricate their firearm from a purse, backpack, even a holster. Love your videos. Just thought I'd add my 'two cents'.

    The biggest point I think people should think about, almost all attacks are going to be that of ambush. If someone grabs the purse from you before you can even react, you'll have no time to reach for said bag (or it might not be there anymore), and you've been jacked over. Good video!

    I off body carry almost every day in a vertx sling bag, I can access it quickly, it's attached to my body so someone can't just snag it and I use a hard sided holster so there's no risk of ND. Doing this also allows me to carry a full size pistol with multiple spare mags, a med kit and an armor panel. You clearly haven't thought through a lot of things in your appraisal. First of all the speed you can draw your firearm is ALL about training, you can also walk down the street with your hand on your gun in your bag and fire it from inside the bag if necessary so for somebody following you you're actually at an advantage there, if someone does have you at gunpoint then it's a lot easier to disguise your draw reaching into a bag than your waistline and if you're gonna comply then comply, keeping the gun out of the hands of someone who's already armed isn't as important as your life. Some reasons why people may need to carry off body: they drive for their job so its easier to access and a whole lot more comfortable, they have to wear certain clothes for their job like tucked in shirts that make on body carry difficult, they carry in non permissive environments where printing would lead to them loosing their job or facing arrest. Now I haven't watched any of your other vidoes so I'm not sure if your experience as a security guard translates to any real expertise, but I'd recommend not making difinitive claims without at least researching and training first. I sure hope your viewers do their own thinking and disregard your ill informed advice.

    Kim GFA I was told to shoot through the purse as it can easily be replaced rather than do the fishing around that it takes to pull it out and I know that you are more than likely to miss the first shot but at least your hand is on the gun and your finger on the trigger.

    @67bowman who said, "(shooting from inside a purse)...you are MORE THAN LIKELY TO MISS first shot but at least your hand is on the gun and your finger on the trigger." (emphasis added) Extremely irresponsible! If you are 'more than likely to miss the first shot', then YOU DO NOT FIRE! If you don't know where YOUR bullet is going to go, then YOU DO NOT FIRE! If you don't know what YOU are going to hit, then YOU DO NOT FIRE! You also don't put your "finger on the trigger" until you are IMMINENTLY sighting on the target and ready to fire the weapon at your KNOWN target.

    Great info! I showed this to my Mother and now she carries her Ruger LCR .357 Magnum with Crimson Trace laser grip in an inside waist band holster on her strong arm side instead of her purse. (Even though I did buy her a VERY nice tactical concealed carry purse that it was VERY easy for her to draw her firearm from.) Great video guys and gals! Helped me convince her in no time flat. Plus I feel MUCH BETTER about her carrying her firearm. You know they call her Annie Oakley down at our local range? Lol! 😂 You've seen the movie "A Christmas Story"? You know how they tell the boy he can't have a Red Ryder BB Gun because he'll "Shoot his eye out!"? Well, she WILL shoot your eye out! And at the last distance line on the range! I believe it is 15 yards or 45 feet. I sure DON'T hate it for the baddie who tries to rob her! Lol! 😂 Thanks again guys and gals! Can't wait to watch some more of your videos! Peace! 😆🐶

    I work on a college campus. Sometimes I’m restricted by what I wear as well and I’m a guy. Fortunately, I work in a private office, and when I’m not able to carry on person, I have my “day planner” in my office that contains my weapon. I hear what you’re saying, but when that active shooter walks into my building, I will at least have a fighting chance.
