➤FAQ's
-Were the winners rigged?
No. You really think that Miziziziz and Jonas would jeopardise their reputations to help us out? Not only would we never expect them too, but it would be immoral.
-Why did uufo win?
Put simply, I think that sigmoid drift should have won, but I also think that buckshot should have won PolyMars' Jam. That's the beauty of video games, people enjoy different games and that's okay.
-Are we planning anymore Jams?
Hopefully. We will have to do something pretty spectacular to complete with this series though.
-Am I the person who came up with the name Muck?
Yes. Now please stop asking me lol.
➤ Bruh Paragraph
Me and PolyMars made a c++ game with the c++ programming language in c++. Similar to videos by TheCherno. Minecraft was not coded in c++ but instead java. Tommyinnit plays Minecraft and as does dream. We only had 24 hours and the best game got $1000!

    For everybody still wondering why the game that won won (mild spoiler warning), as I didn't do a great job explaining it in the video: - I liked the simplicity of it. It did one thing only and in my opinion it did one thing pretty well. More is not always better. - It had a very clean visual design with better visibility and readability than the other game. - Difficulty curve in the losing game had some pretty unforgiving difficulty spikes. I felt more engaged and challenged by the winning game. - The losing game has more potential for future expansion, but I rated what was there, not the future potential. - Winning game had more satisfying feedback and sound effects. It created a better feeling of flow. - The solutions for the losing game's levels often times felt like trial and error. - It was a rough decision and both games had different things going for them. I think a tie would have been a very unsatisfying result for a video like this, though. I understand if you have a different opinion. Fair enough. Please be so kind to play the games before judging me on my judgement, though. Thanks again to PolyMars and Barji for letting me part of this. :)

    The acceleration physics was probably correct. It just goes to show that sometimes something being mathematically or physically accurate doesn't necessarily mean it makes for a better game. Which is why game designers often make somewhat unrealistic tweaks to physics to make a game enjoyable.

  • @josephvictory9536

    @josephvictory9536

    The concept of scale was wrong. If the actual distance between planets was so short then yes, but, if you are thinking on a planetary scale, the relative difference in acceleration at distance would be much less intense because the distances are so dang massive. That type of ultra slow to super fast curve conveys scale, which is an aspect of space that is very hard to convey otherwise eg with planet size. IRL planets look like specks of dust to one another. This is obviously not good for user experience. Also since the screen is fixed and not scrolling or a viewport to a much larger map, scale is really only possible to convey through the gravity curve. I was thinking it should be cubic rather than squared, and the starting velocity much much lower.

    The hitboxes for winning game did it in for me. Hitting the things from double their size in distance away wasn't appealing to me enough that I would have picked the losing game. But...were it not for that I would have seen more enjoyment from it and likely would have made a choice much more difficult. Also, like Jonas said, losing game had more expandability. So while yes you were judging them based on content currently available I did not see much room for alterations on the winning game to improve on it from it's existing state. Being that it was based on current content I would 100% have voted for the losing game in this situation.

    the audio should've been feed to a compressor, it feels very inconsistent, I had to turn up and down the volume so often whenever you switch between polymars and yourself edit: I am currently at the "Results" segment and it just feel absolutely horrible fiddling non-stop with the volume slider. focus more on audio balancing next time, without it, it deducts a LOT of the quality

    In my opinion Poly should have won for a few reasons, mainly because his game fucking worked but also because 1. its level based (not subjectivity), level based games don't rely on a 1 time playthrough and/or RNG, which allows them to expand on different mechanics. While Barji's game was simple, and more arcadey, which adds replay value, however i believed it was too simple, as well technically infinite, it lacked interesting mechanics that I would like to keep on my computer for long, and that isn't to say simple games are fun, infact i'd say they're more desirable then level based games because they can actually have a good lifespan on your computer from how replayable they are, however UUFO just fails to land that list for me. 2. its way more polished then UUFO, it has everything polished, and a lot of extra detail. This is not to shit on UUFOs more simple style, its just that it feels more like a game. The sprites have some well developed art direction to them and the UI, planets, and other touches just generally make me favor the game more. In general I feel like Jonas' vote came down to replayability and that difficult level he really didn't like. In general he saw UUFO as a better gamejam game than game, which boiled down to the replayability. Kinda dumb to let it win off of that when the game doesn't work, but whatever. In general, as a game despite UUFO being potentially infinite in its use, Digmoid was was way better as a game, and also worked.
