Best BST-933B JBC Clone Soldering Station Review & Teardown | Voltlog

Ғылым және технология

In this video I will review the Best BST-933B soldering station which is basically a clone of the JBC CD-B series soldering station. The unit was provided for free by banggood.com for the purpose of this review. You might also find this station under the name of Jabe UD-1200 and it’s usually sold for about the same price. I believe Jabe is the OEM for this tool and Best are just rebranding it and selling it under their own brand which is not unusual with these Chinese brands. Is this a JBC killer? Do I recommend getting this soldering station over a genuine JBC unit or more importantly over the KSGER T12 which has been my day to day soldering station in the past years? Watch the video to find out.

Here in Europe, you can get an original JBC for €189.26 + VAT, the JBC BT-2BWA, It is the analog-like station, with temperature knob and no display, (it is actually digital, and programmable with external console) , and identical performance to the CD station. It also takes the T210A iron (The Best doesn't), and likely it will last you decades (The Best I wouldn't bet on it) If you can spend €200, buying the original is a no brainer.

Thx for the review. For somebody who obtained the genuine one just last week, it was fascinating. How similar it looks at the first sight. But then you start to notice dozens of details where the clone is just wrong... :) BTW: ESD Connection point (or "Equipotentional connection", how manual refers to it) is connected directly to main's ground (without any resistor). But more important difference is, that there is fuse between tip and ground in the genuine one. And this fuse is monitored (there is icon and waring message on LCD if you blow it).

So, the JBC does give one more engineering and safety over the clone unit. I'd wondered about one of the YTers who routinely puts a connection between the case of his KSGER stations and mains ground that is not provided by the factory. While it good to have ESD protection on the tip of the iron so as to not damage a chip when soldering. I would be worried about having a direct ground connection if one accidentally touched a live wire, or worse, got their body across a live wire to the grounded station. The idea of having a large value resistor instead of a wire would drain off static charges while limiting current flow in the case of a direct short.

Hi Jonathon. I have a JBC. I decided for it instead PACE as I get a local promotion. My first decision was for the PACE but after seeing a review at EEVblog an have that promotion moved to the JVC. The PACE price in Europe is about 300 eur. Can see hear: www.welectron.com/PACE-ADS200-AccuDrive-Soldering-Station_1 The tips are a lot cheaper comparing JBC

I would never buy a stolen intellectual property product ... and this should be persecuted by the autjorities since it is clear Industrial Theft. Fluke once did stop the import of some multimeters because they were clearly exactly the same as the Fluke lines at least on the outer box. There must be a limit for Theft ... And yes I've seen those copy-cat stations long ago and jabe is at least the main oem ...best just branded the station.

Way too expensive for a knock-off. Should be under $100 US. Didn't cost any more to make this than an FX-951 clone. And they use a fan to keep it from melting down! I wouldn't buy the POS! You're way better off with a KSGER. If you do production and need the performance of the JBC, you should buy the genuine article.

To be honest that’s like saying way too expensive for a original jbc bcuz original jbc should be the same price as original Hakko fx951 bcuz both would cost the same to manufacture , but the jbc costs double the price , I’ve tried and tear down original and fake solder stations , the original ones there’s nothing expensive inside the soldering stations , all components are cheap and they have there own firmware and that’s what you paying for , the metcal stations are actually a bit different and more expensive to manufacture but they are still expensive , but the jbc knockoffs are ok and they should be cheaper but so should the original ones bcuz they only cost around £50 to manufacture but retail price is like 10 times the cost

  • @EgonSorensen

Nice review - Here's my views on an ideal station, but first a point on maintaining tips and tools: Hot metal oxidize faster than cold. Burning and rusting metal often crumbles into small pieces and is destroyed. Fact!? Cleaning the tip after use removes any sacrificial metal/alloy that can be oxidized, leaving only the tip to oxidize. So, letting it sit burning hot (or at a slightly lower temperature for a while) and the tip goes black due to oxidation. You need to use tip-cleaner often and yet you get black spots on your tip(s) over time, making less contact with the pad and component - which makes you push harder when soldering, thus µfracturing the coating . End result: A new tip required often, as it is destroyed 'by usage'. Applying extra solder+flux to the tip before putting it back in the stand adds sacrificial metal which then oxidizes - leaving the tip itself untouched. An added bonus is when cooled down, the solder acts as a protecting cap against mechanical damage. After sitting idle and usage is required the solder is wiped away (I only use a moist spongue) and the tip is shining clean and ready to be used. Which do you prefer: Bad solder which is wiped away or a bad tip which needs replacing.... Try it (or think about it). I have a Metcal MX-500p with tips that are over 10 years old - and yes, the tips are used on a regular basis and work as if they are new. A light clean metal-metal touch is enough to transfer heat, and since I don't use them as a prodding, lifting and screwing tool - only to apply heat the coating is not cracked, scratched or damaged. That was my point. What I don't like about the station is that the iron holder is open on the back, which could damage items behind it if they come too close to the hot tip. If you do as I do (add solder to the tip after usage) you could get drops of solder behind the station as well, as there is nothing to collect those droplets - especially if you bump the iron placing it into the holder, or taking it out. The sleep function doesn't work too well imho, as the solder solidifies when in sleep as it drops to 150 - so you'd have to wait for it to heat up, before you can wipe it clean, or set it at a higher temperature. The station itself could use some re-designing, imho. Another issue: You're already seeing bad connections between the tips and the iron(handle). I doubt it will improve over time, it will more likely get worse - requiring a new handle, which has the same issue as you said: No clear stop or mechanism to let you know the tip is inserted correctly. The KSGER stations 'wins' imho, it is cheaper, no mods required and has tips that isn't 'sharp as a needle'. If you really want, you can mod it to have more power - but is there a need, besides a faster heat-up time. If there is, just the the control pcb and a bigger screen+psu - and bulid it into a box, and you have a better-than-best station :ø)

Lovely video and great review, as normal. If you can damage it by inserting the tip in too hard, then its not designed correctly. Its not the users fault, its not like you took a hammer to it!

I have the original JBC HDE the 250W large version and that has an annoyingly loud fan. But there was nothing similar and I needed that for soldering some high thermal mass connectors. Some people complained about the JBC tips but I still have the initial large thermal mass tip and that did over 35000 solder joints (I know because I know how many connectors I soldered and I do not use it for anything else). For smaller stuff I have the much less expensive ADS200 and I think that is a good quality soldering iron useful for all applications except maybe the most extreme ones. I could have used the largest tip for the Pace ADS200 to solder those connectors but it was taking two to three times longer so for me since I needed to solder a lot of them the investment in larger 250W JBS made complete sense even if I will never solder anything other than those connectors. While Pace ADS200 works OK the temperature control on the JBC is superior and not due to the higher power the algorithm seems much better.

  • 3 жыл бұрын

My only concern with my KSGER unit, is the lack of a decent holder. Can someone recommend one? I was always envy for JBC's (or Pace ADS200's ...) solution, it's quite a fit and looks nice (also with space for the sponge and the brass "wool"). Also I have interesting measurements in terms of resistance between the tip and earth ground, it's 26Kohm, while it's always zero on another very similar (looks identical, and also bought at the very same place) station one friend of mine has.

Once you are used to how easy and fast you can change the tips singlehandedly on the JBC irons, you don't want anything else anymore! I got a used JBC station and I'm spoiled forever. But please get the original! I never had any issues with the tips not making proper contact or the controller going rogue. As a hobbyist, the tips pretty much last forever as long as you treat them well.

I use JBC irons at work. A couple of months ago I swapped tips and the tip got so hot that it started glowing red. This was a tip that I had used on numerous occasions, so even JBC irons aren't infallible. I also stopped using the wet sponge as that caused the tips to wear out really quickly.

But, years ago, seems to be the prices started to rise, specially for the soldering stations, Fashion electronics ? Now is like a luxury brand. I'm not that good, neither the things I design and build are so important, my cheap Velleman station is enough for my purposes and, for big heating masses, I rise the temperature to 450 C. VAT). The original handle don't mind being pushed too hard, it is designed for production. Your hako clone is better for budget constraints because you can have cheaper clone cartdriges. A little note on the metal part where you store the cartdriges, it can be used to pull the hot cartdrige out and hot-swap it, a nice feature.

Also the lead that cannot handle full power? And at $200 it still is a lot of money, and then you have something that with it's noisy fan will remind you had been a cheapskate each time you use it.
