    Thanks man I really appreciate you sharing. Your wisdom I used to develop for the neural sky a long time ago. I created a game but I never released it. It didn’t seem like that the fault meditation and attention readers was really accurate and I just now got around to putting the finishing touches on the game to release it. Hopefully, since this is about a decade later, I can buy some of the things you suggested, and make some really good software as I am now professional software engineer, instead of a hobbyist. I’m going to re-look into this field of technology. Thanks.

    Thanks for always breaking it down simply! The amount of info on these devices is overwhelming to your average bear, but you make it easy to comprehend. If you had a sec, would you mind a question? Of all the devices out there what would you recommend to someone w post concussive syndrome (multiple concussions and mild TBI), who also just had 18 consecutive mos of chemotherapy for stage 4. Both issues have wrecked their executive functioning skills, reaction times, balance, memory and emotional\mood stability. Their concussion docs recommended TMS, biofeedback and neurofeedback, said brain waves are off. Insurance won’t cover it, so while they’re figuring that out they wanted to get a device to start something at least. They have a meditation and mindfulness practice established and a very positive outlook, but feel as if their brain is unplugged, it’s sluggish and shuts down when pushed. It’s a brick wall for an over achiever. Any recommendations?

    Hi Cody. Thank you for your on-point video! I am been a fan of BCI since the early days of emotiv epic. I didn't have much success with the epoc's wet sensors so I purchased the insight when it was available. No luck with the insight because the dry sensors break almost instantly. I have tried nuerosky, mindplay, mindset, focusband, and muse. Muse has been the most functional consistent of the devices I mentioned above! I purchased mind workstation and I was excited about using a brain band with it. Mind workstation only works with nuerosky and emotiv. Do you know of any programs like mws or np3 that work with muse? Thank you for your time! Smile

Cody no offense but most of this stuff you review doesn't work for me but it is nice to find something that does what it promises.The creators don't tell you since they want you to figure it out on your own but oxytocin release is really the key to improving your PFC activity. Hi Dr. Cody, how do these devises compare to peak brain institute or think interfaces? Are these so incredibly expensive because a practitioner is interpreting/altering them instead of a software? If yes, is the software comparable to a clinician's input/support? From what I gathered from your videos you can also use the software devices like mendi/myndlift/muse with a guidance from a practitioner which might be a hybrid of both? Thanks in advance.

    Awesome video! Thank you. I would love to learn about to comparison of professional devices to consumer products. Basically, is it beneficial, to first use Neuroptimal or to first do Neurofeedback with brain mapping with a specialist and then to switch to use at home devices, or are the listed devices already a full substitute for professional devices, as they are just as good by now?

  • @CodyRallMD

    @CodyRallMD

    2 жыл бұрын

    This is a very good question. I think it depends on financial and time commitments. Going in to brick and mortar with professional will be high-end with more money and time spent. I don't think the wearables can fully replace that experience. However you might actually get more benefit from the wearable if you are disciplined and use it regularly at home.

    Tx for the overview. Good work, as always. One remark, however: I've heard that Muse is not very conducive when it comes to achieve really 'deep' meditation (which might show up on gamma). While this may be a bit much to ask from a consumer device, I still would have appreciated some words on that. Will Muse alone help to achieve deep meditation states?

  • @hollyerincopeland

    @hollyerincopeland

    2 жыл бұрын

    I've been using Muse for many years to achieve deep meditation states, but not in the conventional way. Rather I, and many others including Dr. Cody use a third party app to track brainwaves. However, I feel strongly that you need to be supported in a meditation group or with a teacher to do this work. It's very difficult to do on your own. But once you have those in place, Muse can be a helpful tool for tracking and seeing state shifts.

    Thanks Cody, it is real great to see your overview of the different wearables. I have both a Muse S Gen 1 and Gen 2. I am dedicating the Gen 2 to sleep, because I always want to have a fully charged unit ready for meditating. Also owners of a Muse S Gen 1 get a really price on buying a Gen 2. It actually cost me less than my original Gen 1. The only think I have reservations for using the Muse S for sleep is: if you have a fever and sweat, it gets wet.

    Nice to hear someone who bought Muse S Gen 2 since I don't see reviews about it on KZread. I also want to buy it for sleep tracking. However, the 10 hours of battery life is worrying me. It should have been more. Ok, in general you are expected to sleep 8 hours a day but sometimes, some days due to work, I don't sleep at all and the next day I recover it sleeping more than 10 hours and Muse 2 Gen 2 will fail to record it.

    @@CodyRallMD Continuity is one point that I value in wearables. For example, among devices that measure heart rate with the method of PPG rather than ECG, Apple Watch is by far the most accurate one. In this regard, we can say all the other devices are gimmick since their error rate is huge. However, Apple watch lasts only 18 hours and you cannot even wear it and measure your heart rate a whole day. For this kind of wearables, there are three workarounds. They can either use a swappable battery (like in consumer drones), they can implement fast charging (like in some smartphones, 100% full charge in less than 30 min) or they can be charged while wearing it (like in Whoop strap 4). However, none of these workarounds apply to Muse S for sleep tracking. It should be an uninterrupted continuous measurement. Muse S gen 1 and gen 2 don't differ in terms of battery life. So I guess the development team didn't consider an improvement in this area.

Would it be crazy to make those sensors transceivers and couple such devices through an app? 4 example a puppy and a trainer. if they are brain waves, another brain could be a better interpreter of those waves, than an algorithm. Great video! Except now I am even more confused as what would be the best option for me. I suffered a concussion and suffer from post concussion syndrome. The problem I'm now having is that research shows prolonged pcs can be due to lack of blood flow to the brain, there's also studies on how neurofeedback had been helpful in helping you rest. I'm wondering if you're familiar with concussions at all and if you had one you would recommend above the others with that in mind. I have a combination of all things going on, lack of focus, insomnia, slow reaction, memory, I basically have all pcs symptoms

    It would probably be best to do neurofeedback done professionally at a clinic rather than trying on one the of the gadgets mentioned in the video. It's important to know that most of these gadgets don't have the ability to map the full brain and only utilize the prefrontal cortex or only one specific area of the brain but the EEG neurofeedback equipment that a clinic has is top of the line that maybe cost more than any of the products he mentioned combined. I did neurofeedback by a professional for the first time a week ago and didn't expect much and even afterward the session i thought i got scamed because i didn't feel like my mental state changed at all but later on that day EVERYTHING FELT BETTER. I suffered from social anxiety, depression, ptsd, adhd and all of those symptoms are now under control. Having said that though i don't feel much of anything not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but i'd rather feel nothing that how i was previously. If you're still going to get a gadget than get one that maps the full capacity of the brain not just parts and trains all areas because if you don't and go with let's say a MENDI (neurofeedback device that focuses on the prefrontal cortex) the device my hurt your brain rather than help.

    Just discovered your channel last week, Dr Cody. Great content. I have ADHD, autism, and anxiety and have been very interested in these devices for a while now. Still kinda hard to choose. I'm currently on Adderall which kinda helps, but I don't want to be on it forever and I find that my fidgeting gets out of hand along with my focus when my anxiety is high. I'm also interested in going back to exercising and martial arts (specifically judo and BJJ), but have issues with motivation and issues with other people touching me as a result of my autism. Which device would you recommend for me? I know it's hard to find a device to fulfill all my needs for improving my focus, calming my anxiety, and increasing my motivation, but I figured I would ask.

    I just randomly found this video and read this comment. It kinda freaked me out because everything you typed is the exact same for me. I'm mildly autistic, ADHD, have anxiety, and also take Adderall to help me focus while working. Do you also have issues with insomnia by chance? I also get startled / upset when people I am not very close with touch me. If there are too many noises in my environment it makes me upset as well and I usually have to listen to music or a video to drown out the noises. I take Trazodone for my anxiety / insomnia, it works well and I suggest you talk to your psychiatrist about it. My anxiety is still present, but much more manageable. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm currently 26, almost 27.
