Hey EDC, I love the Spinnaker Dumas you're wearing, and their microbrand of watches too and think that they're easily the nicest automatic movement watches available, especially for their price and quality. I myself have a Green Croft SP5058-04 (but with a black StrapCode Jubilee on it mainly) and a blue Fleuss SP-5055-05 (with a StrapCode Thin Milanese Mesh in SS color) and absolutely LOVE them both. Eventually I'm going to get a Bradner, a Hull and either a Cahill or Spence. Anyway, I was wondering which leather band is on your Dumas? It looks like an Xeric Trappist band but I can't make out the stamp on your clasp? And I just watched my first video of yours here about the Tactile Turn EDC Pens, and now I have a bunch more I'm going to watch that I just "saved for later". I really liked that video and can't wait to watch more of them, so kudos to you for the cool videos. I'm a TOTAL EDC-aholic too. I've been thinking about starting my own KZread channel, and have you and a few other people that I watch to thank for my inspiration to do it. I would be reviewing my massive watch, knife and pen collection and some videos about other things that aren't EDC related. I haven't bought a Tactile Turn EDC Pen yet, but I love my Fisher Space Pens, my Machine Era Markup Pen (just wish it had a much sturdier pocket clip), my Boker Plus Micarta (same issue about the pocket clip 😰🥺), my $35 Bastion Luxury pen, and my Refyne EP1 EDC Pen. The Bastion and Refyne are both rock solid all around. But my next pen will be a Karas Kustoms Render K and/or a Render Fountain Pen. I just wish those had postable caps on them! Thanks for the videos and keep truckin on 😎👍⌚✌️🙏

You convinced me yet again sir. I’ve been looking for an upgrade to something a bit nicer for my edc pen and this video sold me. I had the copper one in my cart until I saw how nice the patina was on the bronze. You’ve been my go to source for my knife and wallet upgrades too. Keep up the good work and stay safe!

Looks like he’s definitely made some improvements over the older generation. A big issue I had with the last generation is that the bolt would sometimes unscrew from the mechanism itself, and the pen was a bit too unwieldy in general. I think I like what he’s done here. Not sure if it would be comparable to some of the higher-end, bolt-action pens but still a solid improvement overall. Thanks for the video!

I have a question I really hope someone can answer. Urban Survival Gear of Ti-Scribe Bolt fame make a converter to fit Parker style refills and adapted Fisher refills in their not-mini pen bodies. Does anyone know if that converter will fit and work inside one of these new Tactile Turn pens? I don't want to have to have both the "full size" and the short just in case I feel like a space pen instead of a gel pen refill.

Was trying to find videos on the new slim bolt actions and wound up here. One thing I miss about the glider/slider era was the dlc coated titanium/black aluminum versions. I remember learning about them from this channel a couple of days before those models had there final sale. Sold out and I was waiting for restock then new product got announced without any black versions. Admittedly I was a bit disappointed, but I'm probably going to get a zirconium one now

I ordered one. It arrived today. Overall, I like it a lot. I agree with everything said in the video (although the end unscrews just fine on mine. Maybe Nick is just screwing his on too tight 😄). But anyways, two things I have noticed: the specific shape of the channel in which the bolt slides up and down in my pen seems to be a bit different than what I see on the pens in the video or on the TT website. It's still a J-shape but the bottom of the "J" is a bit less round or 'fat' than what I see on the other pens. This means that I need to provide a bit of side-force with my thumb, whereas it seems that with the other pens, the rounder arc of the channel is enough to guide the bolt laterally with just a downward motion of the thumb. To be clear, it's not a giant problem. The bolt still snaps into place good and hard. But I see people flicking their bolts back and forth super quickly with just quick flicks of their thumb, and with mine, I can't do that. I need to put slightly more effort into my thumb movement, so I can't just quickly snap it back and forth. I mean, it's not like it's a huge problem, but I'm just saying. The other thing I notice is that there's a sharp point on the body of my pen. It's on the edge of the bolt channel at the midpoint of the "J". The edge of the channel is smooth, meaning It's not a burr or some random bit of metal sticking out, but I think it's just that with the less rounded shape of the channel, where the "J" turns its corner, the two lines come together at a tighter angle than seen on the other pens, forming a sharp point. Again, not a massive problem, but, to be honest, over the course of the many, many years I hope to be using this pen, depending on how I reach for the pen, it may end up cutting me at some point (granted, it would likely be a small cut, but still...). OK then, adios.

I’m someone who has made Aluminium versions of bolt action pens very similar to this, for many years. Aluminium is awful as a pen material, one drop, when, not if and the tip deforms, ruining the action and looks. I now make them with a Tool steel tip, hardened to Rockwell 60, so as hard or harder than Snap-On wrench jaws. Tool steel is obviously much harder than Titanium, let alone soft Gun-metal or Bronze. I would like to find some D2 steel to make a whole pen 🖊 it is the Rolls Royce of tough steel.

Kinda sad to see the tip get a little narrower like that. I have an old Ti glider and it’s useful as a nail punch whenever I have a hard to reach pin or something I need to hammer out, but I’d be worried about damaging the thinner walls at the tip of the new pen. I think the new pens are nicer and more elegant, but the old pens are just beasts. Pry bar (within reason), nail punch, bottle opener, whatever you wanted: the old pens were obviously made by machinists, whether Will intended that or not (if that’s not what you meant, then sorry Will!).

You've got nice pens there at decent prices there. I just picked up a titanium We Knife Co. pen for $66.30 at one of the large online retailers. ( initials K.C.) This bolt action, anodized bargain is worth three times the price in fit, finish, and action. Check it out, it's a We TP-02A. Great vid man. Diggin the bronze one most. 👍

I wish I wasn't so neurotic about theming my edc, because otherwise I'd would have jumped on one of these pens right when they launched. That 20% discount code almost pushed me to it

I’d rather buy and spend hard earned money on pens like this, spacepens, other designs and other full metal pens perfectly machined than to buy a pack I’ll give zero shit for. I’ll make sure to buy one or several from him.

Best Damn EDC My wife listens to Beyoncé ad nauseam . Beyoncé has a song that says “Slaying” around 20 times. So “slayin” automatically brings Beyoncé to mind. And, unfortunately, not in the best of ways. But I was joking with you. You get a pass because of the content. 😉

What are the benefits of a bolt action pen for EDC?

  • @Patrickshindler

    @Patrickshindler

Short answer is the playability of the pen. I like the simplistic mechanical function of how it works, as well as the weight of the solid materials. When I hand these pens to someone to use they know immediately that they are holding something special. It feels like works of art to me.

Bought a Zr with the upgraded bolt. Went to bend the pocket clip up so it would clip to my shirt easier. The top popped off. Had to buy some loctite to get it to screw back in. You can pull it off and push it in with ease. Today I was messing around with the bolt action. Actuating over and over and the bolt flew off. I’ve watched other videos showing the bolt is supposed to have loctite on it when it’s shipped. When you’re spending $99 on a pen I think you should expect a certain level of quality. It’s just not there. In my case, I spent $279 like a fool lol. These are poorly made and the extra parts are mass produced and added on. Very poor quality control from this company. Save your money, buy from another company.

I've had a number of bolt action pens. Unfortunately they are ungodly fragile. Dropping them once is usually enough to break the pen and render it unusable. And if the drop doesn't break the mechanism it may deform the hole the pen comes out which still renders the pen useless.

Not really happy with this, I was going to get an anodized aluminum glider, but now that option is gone and they're outside my price range. I really do like the redesign but unfortunately they just don't have my interest anymore.

I do not understand why these pens are so expensive? Am I missing something that they do special? They can go for hundreds of dollars. I’m assuming it just writes on paper? Is it supposed to be a fidget pen or something to play with? Are they that pricey because of the material they are made from? And is the ink found in a special mountain in the hidden hills. Well they are cool unfortunately I’ll never pay that much for a pen so it looks like I’ll stick with my bass pro shop pen I got for free. And it works just great.

I bought a brass slider as a gift for my wife. Got to say I was a bit disappointed with the attention to detail. Even opening the tin it looked like they cut the rubber insert with a pair of blunt scissors. Then the bolt action had too fine a tolerance & didn't pop travel all the way up. The spring has about 1/3 travel b4 the tension starts. Wobble in the end of the pen. On top of that I paid an extra $20 for Lazer printing & its not even in the middle of the pocket clip. Was too embarrassed to tell her what it cost.
