Can find this jacket at a number of different places. My go-to for the United States is Purpleheart Armory. If you're thinking about buying one, consider using our affiliate link, which is found on our channel page. Full disclosure: This is not a paid review. I bought this check with my own money, and I just really like it.

@@borttorbbq2556 there are some other budget jackets that I'll review later. They're still good jackets, but the price difference is only going to be maybe $50 or so. You can always buy a used jacket. Most clubs will have loaner jackets that they give to their students as they start. You can usually start practicing for nothing more than the fee that the school charges to be a student

I'm definately getting SPES AP light next. I had to get my first jacket on a low budget so I bought a basic SPES AP jacket used from a club mate. The jacket is really good and fits well, but the basic AP is pretty hot with no arming points in the elvows Edit: Still worth it considering that club friend sold it to me with a major discount and gave away other protections as well

FYI, they have 350 newton and 800 newton jackets. I bought the 800, as it is more protective. I regret that choice. The 800 CANNOT be worn outside unless it is late fall or winter (Southeast Texas). Get the 350, add the PRO plates and a chest protector if you are worried about needing more protection. (I'd add the pro plates anyway, cause i think they look cool. $75 add on) It will break in faster and will cool off better. FYI, the newton rating is the puncture resistance. 350 is fine for a HEMA jacket.

So I am by no means a fencer, nor do I have any training. But I do have a genuine question and I hope you answer it in a video. I have a motorcycle jacket that has carbon fiber and fiber glass plates along the back, shoulders, and elbows, to help me skid in case of a crash. My question is, is that kind of technology in jackets a thing in fencing? I can see it being more protective, but also limiting movement, and I wanted to know your thoughts

My research into what fencing jacket i should aim for suggested that AP light's level of padding is somewhat lacking specially in the shoulders and clavicles. Do you find it to be a problem while sparring? I like the idea of keeping my protective gear light and manoeuvrable as reasonably possible. But I am put off by the idea of having glaring weak points in my protective layers.

I own an AP light and just took it to a tournament. The padding is sufficient to prevent injuries in the areas you mentioned. You will still feel some ouchie hits, but you'll basically just bruise a little. Any longsword fencer in my opinion should MANDATORY be using a separate gorget for neck protection anyway, and I highly suggest using hard elbows, knees, and forearm protectors. Shoulderplates too if you feel like it. When you're using all of that, you don't need extra protection from the jacket.

@@Interrobang212 Hi, do you think that AP Light 800N from spes is worth to buy as my first jacket for long sword? Another option is AP 800N (heavy model). I would prefer light one because it has better ventilation and im overheating much :p it is also easier to clean, but it has much less protection :( and here is my question is NG 800N light still worth to buy as first jacket in comparison to heavy one (im planning to buy extra elblows and forearms protectors + chest protector form PBT, regardless of chosen model) One of my hema instructors said that heavy is better and he would never recomended light jacket as first jacket.. but i still dont know.. another instructor (he is training saber) said that it is easy to push some extra protective foam into light jacket. Third instrucror said that light jakcet is good but i will have always some extra bruises. AND 4th one said that light model give no proteciton and it is better to buy heavy one xDD Help! :D
