Best Backpacking In Zion National Park

In today's video, a group of friends and I backpack Zion National Park's West Rim Trail. This 15-mile hike had many surprises, one being a surprise snowstorm! 3.8 million people visit Zion National Park every year, yet the West Rim Trail seemed like a secret get away from the crowds. It offered amazing windows into Zion, finally ending in the bottom of the valley. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone who is looking for a challenging yet rewarding backpacking experience.

Omg... I've binged almost your entire channel in the last 2 days. I just graduated college and I'm hoping to travel soon, as I'm in the Southeast and have NEVER been west. I'm learning a ton from this channel, excited for your next video!

First off, congratulations on your graduation, great job :). Secondly, thank you so much, this comment means so much. My goal is to help people get out and experience nature and learn science, so anything I can do to help you I will. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
Very cool! Your videos are always so high quality and enjoyable. Thanks for showing the tent caterpillars!! I have been seeing them all over Colorado and didn't know what they were. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a bunch of little tarantulas!

Cool video ! I’m sure only reaaally REALLY sad kind of events can make you stop SMILING haha, those 4 hours of sleep looked like a joke to you ! I happen to never remember how to convert miles and farenheit degrees into kilometers and Celsius degrees though 😅 (watching you from France 🇫🇷)

hiking and camping with friends looks a lot more fun! i bet the amount of strangers at the common spots really detracts from the experience though =[ i can definitely see why zion is so popular though. the 14:16 bit made me laugh out loud 😂 i thought building the wooden windshield structure was really neat and looked fun. i think it would be so awesome if people keep adding more and more to it and eventually theres a whole nice rectangle! and again the drone footage is so beautiful! i bet you could make separate videos of just drone footage highlighting how beautiful each park is (although i bet that's already being done so maybe not). id really like to see some shots of sunset/sunrise/stars with the drone!

Hi Emily! Camping with friends is also great :). It all depends what kind of experience you're looking for. When I solo travel, I like to stay in hostels so I can meet new people. When I've had my fill, i stay in a hotel for a big to get some me time. Backpacking is pretty much the same. Unfortunately the drone footage for this video is stock footage. It's actually illegal to fly a drone in a national park unless you have a permit. But I agree that the shots were super cool, which is why I took em 😏
Pretty funny video bro. Looking to do this at the end of October.

Could you tell me how do I reserve a spot on the west rim trail? Is it only online or do I have to do it in person. I’ll be driving from Texas so as much info as you can give me would be helpful.

@@williamwhitcraft2196 Thanks a lott! My friend is the one who got the permits for the hike and I do believe there is a lottery to get a permit. Check out their official website here :www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/backpackinginfo.htm

I believe it leaves from the visitor center. There is signage once you get there, it’s hard to miss. Have fun!

Hi! I have to do the same this summer. How did you purify the water? I read it is full of bacteria.

We used a gravity filter system, it may have be platypus (my friends not mine). We also used an iodine tablet for good measure, but I’m not sure if it’s absolutely necessary. I wouldn’t suggest a pump filter, the water is too low and you’d be kicking up too much sediment. Good luck!
