Ahwatukee I've been told is mostly for old folks....which my wife and I are looking to move/rent.. we need something affordable...between 1,200-1,600ish maybe with some utilities included and 1bd but 2 preferred for my stepdaughter who is attending college in Tempe

I’ll take the heat & rain & wind & at least some of the idiot drivers we encounter in & around the Phoenix , & Tucson areas whenever we travel through on our way to visit our Oldest & her family in Texas . As a 63-1/2 year old Native Southern Californian I’m ready to re-locate outta here & am very close to packing it all up & moving up into Payson area . We have long-time friends who moved up there from our area 3-1/2 years ago & my wife & I have visited them on a number of occasions,& during many different seasons of the year to see if it’s a good choice to settle . Aside from the traffic & homeless in certain areas of Phoenix as we pass through the areas headed to beeline highway it’s not been too bad so far. We enjoyed heading on into Globe area & checking out Roosevelt reservoir & the town of Globe as well , and I’ve traveled all over looking for last 40 years up & down the state from south to north & East to West & up through Flagstaff & Page & Grand Canyon & East through Monument Valley on over to Utah . I enjoy open spaces & much less densely populated areas & Arizona sure has a Hell of a lot once away from major cities. Time will tell if & when we pull the plug on living here in Cali. We wanted to say a big “ Thanks “ to you for ALL you post & have to say you tell it pretty much like it is , and it’s been much appreciated by us . C-ya , and am still hoping to be an Arizona resident soon .

Tucson is usually 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix, not as humid so the evaporative cooling works great until late August. There is much less smog and car exhaust. Major university, ballet, theater, opera, symphone, art museums, lots of stuff to do. Close to mountain hiking, good shopping, but not as fabulous as Phoenix. Depending on what neighborhood you chose to live there are reasonable home prices still around. Have lived here for 47 years, travelled the world and would never live anywhere else.

Btw, the traffic in Phoenix is nuts! We have winter visitors who are the ones that cause a lot of the driving problems. There are more than 40 mountain peaks surrounding Tucson, so we have much more hiking than Phoenix. There are many major artists here as well as authors. We have many observatories and much astronomy, a planetarium. I would not live in Phoenix. It's crazy up there.

Tucson is awesome!! I’ve been here for about 2 yrs now from Brooklyn. Keep in mind tho, it’s not for everyone. If you appreciate nature , the slower pace, Chill low key vibes , have a nice paying remote job, then yes tucson is your place. Friendly people. Affordable living (compared to Scottsdale, phx areas) If you love the city buzz, fancy dining, shopping, stylish bars, etc then no, go to Scottsdale and phx. Gilbert is fast growing suburbia. Cookie cutter homes and zero personality. Great for families apparently. Do your research good people. Parts of az can vary vastly

@@chonkyb3134 Summer is even more brutal and much worse in other parts of the country where there are hurricanes, tornadoes, humidity, in the summer, and freezing blizzards in the winter. At least in Arizona, you don’t have to deal with the oppressive humidity that many other states have. Yes, there are monsoons and haboobs, but they don’t last forever, The summers in Flagstaff are very cool and pleasant. I agree, California is not representative of the rest of the country, and neither is Hawaii and New York - other expensive states. It all depends where you’re coming from. AZ could be very expensive to someone from GA, OK, AL, MS, TN, or even FL, but to someone from California, AZ is very cheap.
