Best 2020 John Deere X390 Mower Ever

The new X390 Lawn Tractor for the bigger lawns. Also, if you have problems with your hands or legs, the Power Steering, Power Deck Lift and the Steering Wheel Adjust is the Best feature for this Mower. Because the mower is so big, you get a smoother ride along with the larger tires. If your legs are long enough, you can flip the mulcher lever with your foot to mulch or let the grass fly. I like mowing the grass and now I like it even more. If you don't like mowing the grass, at least this mower will get the job done without a fight.
Now that I am retired, I just might show my life and some of the towns around me. I enjoy working on Cuckoo Clocks and clocks in general, How to repair vacuums, fans and things form the thrift stores, besides the thrift store finds, and working on houses. Time Lapse, Bird & Sky watching along with gardening. Helping my Dad with things he loved to do, along with taking dad and his wife to breakfast.
My Brother and Dad, live on the same Dead End Road and yea, maybe we just might get into trouble a little, but have fun doing it. It is time to start smelling the Roses on the way instead of looking at them and passing them by.

    Sounds great! Alway nice to hear others stories. Here, we might need a sweeper in the early spring if the grass grows fast and in the fall, the trees around don't have that many leaves to warrant the power flow bagger, but being a man, I should have gotten that toy also, lol. Thanks for stopping by Jeff Pinnow.

    Don't know just how big your lawn is, but most people forget they have a cord attached to they mower and run it over. It's just a learning curve he will have to adjust to. Also don't have to store gas and oil for the mower. But do have to maintain it better with the wash under the deck each time. Thanks for stopping in Organic Worm Casting BY SOTO

  • @justmike57

    @justmike57

    3 жыл бұрын

    For the people that have tall grass to grow or if you have the one with the locking rear end, for hills and wet areas you have to mow, the Kubota was the right one for you. Mine was an older model and did everything I needed it to do. A bit rougher ride, but for the farm, I loved it. For where I live now, the John Deere is a smoother ride and easier to turn the wheels. The deck, in my thinking, was made to mulch all the time, even without the attachment because mowing the Spring grass, it will start to clog up and spit it out. It is great to think of what you want that mower to do and write it down before you buy, so Great Job on that one FlyCaster

    Spot on. I just picked one up today and couldn't wait to mow. It performs like no other. The Kawasaki engine never bogged down when cutting thick growth or rolling over a row of hi grass with a pile of discharge from a prior pass. AMAZING and so fun to drive. Not to mention the power steering and tight circles...getting close around a tree.

BTW I have a 2016 X584 which is 4WS with PS deck lift and locking differential. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Some people think that ur paying for the JD name but it’s the quality and durability that you pay for. I use my tractor year round to also plow and blow snow so it never sleeps. LOL. I wasn't going to say this in the video, but I bypassed my reverse switch also. I had a YT 46LS Husqvarna mower that was the best I had because of the muddy area I lived on the farm. It would mow tall grass the first time and the back wheels would lock in to go threw mud and climb hills. Now my son has it because it was like riding a bucking bronco, compared to the new John Deere I have now. Thanks for sharing your story and also, thanks for stopping in Wayne.

    The deck on the 390 that I have, sad to say, is a mulching deck. The three blades can't shoot the grass very well to each blade, then out. Not good with wet grass but does really well with dry grass. Also not good on tall grass but in time you can get the job done. The best part of this lawn mower is the length. The length gives a smoother ride for bumpy ground. Thanks so much for your comment.

    We got this mower for Dad. He is 93 this year. It was a lot of money for the power steering and lift, but now dad can easily mow his yard/field. He also mows the wooded area he planted many years ago. Yes he has high centered it on small stumps that were hidden that we haven't finished cleaning up and thinks it is a small brush hog, when we start pruning around the yard, lol. We just let him do what he wants with the mower because he never runs it on high rmp's and when he breaks it, my brother and I are there to put it back together again... still laughing.

    I can't tell you how many times in my life I've had to correct someone when they mention the EMERGENCY brake. It is not an emergency brake. It is a PARKING brake. Just as in a car or truck. And not only does it prevent the vehicle from rolling but in a vehicle with an automatic transmission and a parking position, it takes the weight / stress off the parking pawl.

  • @justmike57

    @justmike57

Always apply it before shifting into Park and release it AFTER shifting into gear.(Sorry for the hi-jack!)

    We had the 2016 model of this mower bought it new... Its 2021 we have a 1000+ hours on it and shelled the transmission don't believe the owners manual YOU have to service the transmission on it... other than that great mower we ran the hell out of ours nice tight cuts, power steering was awesome, no more sore shoulders or elbows... The transmission is the weak link, YOU have to service it...

    Push the yellow button next to the deck lift switch and you can back up with blades engaged. The 2022 model has a (nice but costly to replace) stitched seat now and provides more back support. It also should resolve the age old issue of seat cover coming loose from the seat bucket. Looking to add the MC519 powerflow collection system for leaf collection.

  • @justmike57

    @justmike57

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey David. You are right about the switch to push to keep the blades going but I have a 93 year old dad that does not use the button. He keeps having to restart the blades. So with that said, we have No kids around so after having to change the belt for the blades and seeing what happens to the belt when you have to restart the blades so many times, ( the belt started to unwrap its self from getting to hot), I disconnected the switch and put in a jumper wire so the blades would not stop when backing up. I am not recommending to do this, but it makes mowing so much easier and fun compared to pushing the button every time you want to back up a foot or two. As for the power flow collection system, for the cost and weight of it, we decided to just buy a lawn sweeper for the amount of time we really need it and we use the grass clippings and or leaves for around the old fruit trees to help hold the moisture and rot down for fertilizer. Thanks for sharing your adventures with your John Deere and your thoughts.

    Nice. I have 420hrs on my 2016 X390 (48" with Mulch Kit), and it still runs like the day I picked it up. I went back and forth a dozen times over the power steering and deck over a X380. All I can say is "how did I every go so long without power steering." Once you have it you can't go back. I also wanted the K58 transaxle as it has a replaceable fluid filter and slightly larger axels. While still no 500 Series, it has handled my hilly terrain just fine. As you know, this is a safety feature, yet I went to the switch and ran a jumper wire so the blades would not shut off until the button was pushed. that's the democrat mandated mow-in-reverse permission button. it doesn't do any good, it just forces you to ask the democrats for permission every time you want to mow in reverse. Permission is always granted, but you have to ask anyway. It's a lot like being forced to wear a piece of cloth over your face in public even though that cloth is not effective in preventing the spread of airborne diseases, but you have to wear it anyway because the democrats say so.

    Let's see-the S240 with 48" is $2,899. The X390 with 48" is $5699. So for almost twice the money ($2,800 more) with the X390 you get a little better grade of Kawasaki engine, one step up of transmission, power steering (really? on a riding mower?) and hydraulic lift for the mower deck (yeah I know the spring loaded lever on the S240 is really an inconvenience). If you really need that, OK. Course you could go for the X750 series with Yanmar Diesel and full hydraulics, but $15,000 is a bit steep.

  • @justmike57

    Hey Tom, you may be right about the big, extra money on the X390, but my dad is 93 years old and the extra money gets him outside in the sun and gives him something to do besides watch KZread all day. He walks with a cane and not to steady on his feet anymore. Not having to lift his legs up to mess with the deck is a plus and the power steering helps him navigate around the shrubs and flowers he use to crash into and mow over. Dad is a very happy man now and worth the money he spent on the mover. As for the X380, the John Deere is an easy steering mower already in my opinion and will do the job for me. The only complaint I have is the decks on these movers. They are designed to mulch most the grass already without buying the mulching attachment that covers the opening where the grass comes out. Because of this, it is harder to clean the underside of the deck and the hose attachment is really a joke in my opinion. Thanks to watching Tom and I appreciate your opinion on the mover because everybody has different needs in their life.

Dad mows about 2 1/2 acres and wants the grass to rot down and make fertilizer for the grass on it's own. I will admit, the more you pick up the grass, the more fertilizer you have to put out.
