What is the function of the piece of material sewn to the back of the dart. Thnx

There are 2 functions, start sewing from the extra piece, there is no need to do back stitch at the sharp point of dart , so the point of dart will look beautiful, other function is to reinforce the dart because the dart is in bias.

It’s called balancing a dart. It serves to even out the seam on the front so as to not look all pressed to one side, which a dart usually is. But not always🙂

The dart is 1.4 cm, seam allowance of the pattern is 0.8 cm, thank you for watching
