She's wonderful but her phrasing especially on the opening and ending is not to my liking. It's different from every version I've listen to. I also find her a little to dramatic with her timing. But I'm not a fan of slowing and rushing the tempo regardless of who it is. It's still beautiful.

It's called "Story Telling" (Rubato in musical terms), something Agustin Barrios was a master at, and the classical guitar is perfectly suited for. As Michajeru says, Berta really understands the music of Barrios.

Yes it does, but is it because of player skill and taste, or perhaps the sound system? I have heard real turkeys of an instrument sound wonderful in the hands if a master, if you factor the sound system, as well, it is difficult to discern the quality of the instrument

For 18,000 your are only getting 3,000 USD of Tone and paying mostly for exotic wood. A Classical Guitar not matter what design, woods are used = Maximum Ceiling of Sound Quality. The Guitarists do most of the work in performing. However; guitars do get a short shot from the Luthiers world, when I am see teachers using a $30,000.00 Cello. Come on how can you may a cello sound that good, they play in groups. Now Violins amaze me that people would pay millions for a Violin. Yamaha has never and never will make the cut because is now a Stock Holder profit driven machine. I do appreciate their early introduction of Classical guitars in the 1970' 80's but after that. nothing. Also, the Chinese deserve not credit in the builders. At least the Japanese when to Spain to learn from the best luthiers. That's all I have to say. I will now pick up my 1977 Signature Takamine Hirade 5 and play it with great joy my friend for so many years let's see 39 years in my hand, on stage, and teaching.

A great guitar and a very great player also outstanding audio recording . I hate to say it but the very top range guitars from the big guitar factories like Yamaha , Takamine or Taylor for eg can often more than equal those of the small independent luthiers particularly in terms of value and consistency of quality .With traditional top end luthiers one can be paying a lot just for a name while having to compete in price with guitar collectors who will never play them. The big manufacturers have access to incredibly high tech tools and purchasing power to obtain finest woods as well as very long traditions of craftsmanship . What the big manufactures cannot do however is add the unique aspect to an exquisitely hand made guitar from a great luthier.
