As a Finn I've never ever heard anyone paying 56% income tax if they're normal ordinary workers. Millionaires pay up to that but they can afford it. I'm a normal working man and I pay 24% income tax...

Ditto here in Canada, too. We pay around 20-22 percent of the income, including employment insurance. And yet pay zero dollars for the healthcare. Yet U.S. folks pay their these basic taxes on the top of out-of-pocket fees like deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments that could add thousands of dollars per month to per family. So who is paying more? Alas many Americans are so brainwashed.

They have to scare monger. My American friend pays more in health insurance than most Europeans do in income tax. She pays about €27,000 a year* To cover herself, her son and her autistic grandchild who the son is the full-time carer of so can't work.

Tax is always marginal. They always suppress that and would tell you only the max rate that very rich have to pay after a certain high amount of income, for very rich people only. That is not for regular people.

You certainly had it ready to draw like a gun on Bernie , who mopped the floor with you anyway , you corporate stooge . The issue is that becoming the president is the easy part, getting things done especially for Bernie, is a totally different ball game because the wealthy hate everything he stands for. To be a successful president you need more than a good president, you have to arm yourself with fearless warriors willing to go to battle against the Republican party which is the most powerful and successful political party, I hate admitting it, but it's TRUE because there's no shortage of money being pumped into it constantly and they don't give a flying f*ck about the country or its people as long as the money keeps coming in and they hold on to power and if they lose they say they won and fundraise off of that.🤡💩

I actually watched this interview first, then saw people's commentary like Rational National, TYT, and Pakman. I am glad that the way I viewed the interaction was not just me. I frequently find myself having to defend a position alone or with half-hearted support, it is reassuring to see that I am one of many, e pluribus unum. One of the reasons I frequently watch Progressives is b/c I grew up being Socialist, living in a conservative household... typical family interactions, that we all have, I would make observations and comment on it, and get laughed at for my simple-mindedness. Well, I went and educated myself, I gained experience, I worked within the system and I found out I was right. Not just my family, my extended family, my close friends, strangers that I struck the right chord with... we were all behaving in a Socialist manner, except when there was an other... someone not considered part of the group for ANY reason b/c the same reason was not universal ie Protestant/Catholic/Atheist; White/Asian/Black; Poor/Mostly Poor/Rich; Unemployed/Employee/Busi Owner. So, they are not racist, not sectarian, not classist they just didn't like that person, and found a reason to exclude them from the group and that is fine for your social circle, but the govt social circle is ALL of us.

I watched that episode on Face the Nation and I enjoyed Bernie calling out corporate media! He is sharp as a tack and can run circles around anyone! I thought Margret was condescending. They repeat what other corporate media are reporting. They are like parrots. Yawn... Both Dems and Rep are complacent and gutless.

I would set down to watch it and end up going to sleep. Why you ask. Because it was usually a rehash of what had already been played. There is a very limited amount of content that is broadcast. The problem is NOT Capitalism. It IS Unfettered; Unregulated Capitalism. Starting with repealing the amendment that corporations are "persons" and have a 1st amendment rights. That right is reserved for: "The People; each Indvidiual Citizen, NOT organizations. Organizational comment should be completely exposed to the law.

It's also crony capitalism. I think we should look at the USSR in a new way and actually see we are moving towards it. A big problem of the USSR is that the state had unchecked power and any group having unchecked power is bad. I think we should have a true mixed economy. That means the state should not only provide public utilities but should set up an entirely separate institution with it's own laws to directly compete with the public sector in certain things. Things like basic food and items such as beds, cars, chairs, pots/pans, cutlery, stuff that every single person needs. They can make the basic ones but still allow private companies as well. These state industry items would also serve as a sort of anchor on the cost of living as it's hard to charge a 70% profit ratio if one at just 10% continues to exist. The problem of the USSR was that they banned private industry altogether so as to maintain their absolute control.

The primary cause of every recession is the over concentration of wealth. When the people who actually spend money have none., the movement of money slows to a standstill and therefore so does the economy. But the rich don't care, a recession hardly touches them.

Bernie is correct. One reason, that is not being addressed, is that Obama had his hands tied by the republican party. Many people have this point of view. The reality needs to be addressed succinctly and easily understood by the common citizens. The promise of serious changes will be made if the progressive/democrats unite and are elected in 2024. This needs to be pushed now. The people or some in limbo are willing to switch in my estimation for a succinctly proposed plan.

@@shaunsides5152 : No he couldn't because he only had a super majority in the Senate for 72 working days. And you need 60 votes to have a super majority and Obama only had 58. Even after Arlen Specter switched parties from Republican to Democrats he still only had 59 votes. Until Al Franken was finally sworn in and he had 60 votes in July but in August Ted Kennedy died. Thus back to 59 votes.

And never pick on Bernie. He has been preaching to the choir since the 1990, Fridays on the Thom Hartmann Show. He has told what's wrong with Washington and the media and everything else. He has talked about bills that no one voted for in Washington. Good ones that would have changed things at the time and maybe would have our life better today. More in line with what goes on in the rest of the civilized world instead of us moving back to the 1940's or 50's. He told us when in the 80's companies were trying to break the strong unions so they could send the factories overseas. He is a man for our times and nothing less. And I am not related but an avid listener to him and Robert Reich.
