Bernard de Marigny: Politician, Playboy, Duelist
A brief oral biography of Bernard de Marigny, a larger-than-life figure in New Orleans history, who definitely needs his own Showtime original series.

"Foe-burg," cher, it's pronounced. not "fow."

@@AtunSheiFilms well, funny seeing you here after three years.
Omg idk how I ended up here but I’m not complaining. This guy is hilarious and as a huge obsessor over New Orleans, I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole of these videos and it’s so great.
Funny and informative, this should have more views.
I think part of the reason I enjoy your videos so much is because I was also the weird kid reenacting sword fights and imagining pistol duels and imagining myself as a swashbuckler or a hammer wielding Goliath. Alas I was a skinny ten year old and I didn’t have a dueling partner.
I think you should do a Showtime series on him and also the legendary Baroness Michaela Pontalba, to whom we owe so much! In addition, the NOLA ghost stories, so steeped in our history, would make a great mini-series, as our ghost tours are the most popular of all our tours.
Me: I have watched all Atun Shei content YT: 1. No you haven't and 2. How do you keep finding more
I'm enjoying these videos a lot, thanks and keep it up.
glad i found your channel, I also am a lover of history, born and raised in MA and moved to a southern state.....keep up the good work man!
Great video friend! Keep up the excellent work.
Hope this whets the appetite for more about this remarkable man. "The Faubourg Marigny of New Orleans: A History" was published by LSU Press in October 2018 and has the most factual and complete account of Bernard's life yet written.
If I could go back in time I'd hang out with this dude sounds awesome
Great video!
Thank you Attn-Shei, appreciate your work?
Amazing facts Please Keep doing new orleans history vids⚜
Thank you..
We have two perpendicular streets here in town named Nelson and Trafalgar. I always thought it would have been nice of them to have Nelson reach Trafalgar but stop there. Alas, they don't actually meet.
My 11th generation grandfather, mother’s side. I grew up not knowing this until I was almost 30
Sounds like this guy had an insane life!
Just the idea of a duel fought with sledgehammers sounds pretty metal though.
Thanks
Imagine being such a man and living such a life...outliving your era and dying impoverished and obscure.
Great ending. Do you do foley?
If had to dual, I would dual cannons. If I was gonna die, I want it to be cool.
That's an awesome video. Sounds like he made some poor financial decisions!
Do you happen to know about Pepe Llulla? Quite an interesting duelist in New Orleans in his time.
"Had the good sense to die" that shit was funny
nice berry lyndon theme on the outro

It's "Sarabande" by G.F. Handel.
gooooooo skippers!
In our country we have a saying "Crapud somke yuh pipe" meaning that your in trouble
I'd watch the hell out of a sledgehammer duel
Cool shirt
I can see the dual now, picturing the movie in my head. it's Willem Defoe swinging his hammer in leather coveralls... and getting his ass kicked by Michael Pare, wait that was Streets of Fire, nvm.
@ 0:23 Wait, he was 13? And I thought Walid II was quick into debauchery!
I am a direct descendant on my Mother's side He would be my 5x Great Uncle
Algormancy!
If one was killed in the hammer fight the crabs would be running fat! Get the net.
Oh
2:41…aaand there’s your meme

In a couple states, it is. In the rest, it's more of a gray area.

Couldn't like, like even though I liked the video cause there's like 420 likes liked (like registered) and that's a long liked internet meme number like 69. So I shall effect my affection with this affable comment.
