Bermuda Lawn | EP5: Seeding

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Seeding day finally arrived; daily temps averaging 80+ and soil temps averaging more than 65. I am seeding with STA-Green Bermudagrass from Lowe’s. The Sta-Green (Pennington) seed blend consists of Mohawk and Sultan FMC-6, both similar to Sahara II. Mohawk is more cold tolerant, and may be able to provide year-round green in my coastal climate. I plan to mow around 1/2" year round on the Bermuda, subscribe to see how I plan to do that.
*Note- at 7:08 I mention the use of Tenacity or Quinclorac at seeding. Tenacity is not labeled safe for use on Bermudagrass, it was mentioned for those who may seed cool season grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass. However, Quinclorac is labeled as safe for Bermudagrass seeding and seedlings. Always follow label’s directions for uses and safety precautions. *

    The use of Tenacity at seeding was mentioned as an example from those cool season lawns. It is NOT recommended for use with bermudagrass at seeding. Quinclorac is however, and you should always follow the directions on the label.

    hello sir, i have been plant bermuda for 2 weeks now and its no so good even with germination. the seller said i dont need to cover them, just spread them on the soil. so i just need to cover them with peat moss?

  • @donslawns1

    @donslawns1

    3 жыл бұрын

    The peat moss helps retain moisture, and make good seed to soil contact. If the seed was just laid on top of the soil, it’s very likely it dried out and couldn’t germinate.

    @@donslawns1 Thanks! I ended up purchasing pretty much the same set up you had with the addition of Quinclorac 75DF. My plan is to: 1. Lay top soil (1") with a smal mix of compost or manure / rake it lightly / tamper to level 2. Spray the suggested dose of quinclorac 75DF 3. Spread the seeds, lightly rake them in and tamper them down a bit for that seed to soil contact 4. Add starter fertilizer 5. Add peat moss for a .25" cover 6. Add the fungicide It notes in the Quinclorac 75DF instrunctions not to water for 24 hours after application, but don't you need to water your seeds right away after planting? Thanks again!

    @@donslawns1 I am getting ready so lay some down Friday. I know I'm a bit late but I should be able to make it before frost. I'm in Atlanta and we currently are seeing 80 on average. I ordered some top soil to cover. It's a large area so peatmoss would cost too much. It rained twice this week. I'm getting sun for the next 10 days (as far out as I can get on the forecast).
