Do you guys tend to catch more with a certain size of this Gilly bait? I’m in S Florida and about to give this bait a shot. The underwater footage seems like the action is 👌💪

origin of this one is "gill flat " from japanese maker " Issei" , whose owner is the inventor of NEKO rig, dropshot rig. he's absolutely genius..

We were fishing the so called Neko Rig back in the early 1980s. It’s called a nail weighted wacky rig. I’ve even got a old Bass Pro Shop VHS tape with Woo Dave’s using it. Jimmy Houston even laughs about it being a Japanese invention. He also used it in the early 80s.

Zero fish caught on the gilly in a week of trying. 30 pounds of bass caught on sleeper gill by megabass in the same week.

Just because it looks good to you does not mean a Bass will be attracted to it.

You know what's awesome about these. The weed out all small bass. Just 3lbs and up hit this. I love it. Guys and a side note don't hook it straight on. Use a spring lock. You will lose your lure in a few throws.

Do you think any of us in the United States can just go walking into any Japanese bait shop and pick up a pack of gill fllats.. the bait your referring to? No!! if we want anything you guys have over there we have to order it and wait on it to come over in a big ship and it takes forever. Cut out the thousands of miles across an ocean, Pay to use the license to make our own. And then make them in mass production. I will admit the Japanese version is better and has better action.. the waters in Japan are so pressured everything there has to be absolutely perfect. But it's extremely hard for anybody in America to get their hands on anything that's in Japan without it taking forever or costing an arm and a leg.

@@bamadondon0495 Both are available online from japan shipped to the us cheap its not 1990... Everybody ships... AND they are also available through multiple US retailers. Like Carolina Tackle and Japan Tackle to name two. Both US based distributors. You just don't realize how much you don't know outside your bubble. I am not "over there" and have bought both the gill flat and the more readily available IK Javallon Gill IN THE US. But keep making assumptions. You sound like its something you enjoy.

True: So temperamental, constantly fixing it to run right, 1 fish causes fatal rip or loss of lure. Has no place on any serious bass angler's boat.

I use Storm's Live Eye series - usually the small perch ones because I can't find the sunfish ones anymore 😔 Those even got steelheads to bite.

Yeah, a lot of guys keep some Storm WildEye Live series in their boat, especially the shad baits. Sleepers for sure.

I like how it falls on its side when it stops swimming, like a injured fish must catch quite a lot too

I used to be a Pro Staff Member for Crave Bait , and this thing is simply authentic as they come.

As a 5 pound bass, I can confirm I would bite this.

The bad thing about him Mr. gilly doesn’t last one fish hits it it rips the whole face up they need to figure out how to better make it or make them cheaper because they say a 2/0-i’d go with a screw lock in the front in a extra large gap hook because I had a fish swallow mine the 110 and the hook barely pinch the inside of its mouth I might’ve pulled it 15 feet and it came right out land at one fish they need it to specify a specific cook because I want to three of them in all different ways of hooking him does something different the way to fish swims and different line wait also determines how the bait moves

To be honest Z-Man should definetely make a similar soft bait, this would solve the durability problem and it would sells like hot cake. If you are having trouble with the hook, a good technique is to put some kind of tube (like a straw) through the nose of the Gilly, run your line through it, tie on a treble hook and put one end of the hook in the belly of the lure so it holds in place. This will give you far better hookset.

I.O of fish today is amazing too. It won't bait until pay hahaha

I want one. My most successful lure has been The Gudebrod Sniper. The Big S was another good one. That looks so real!

The action on these things are amazing! I have the purple pumpkin and the regular pumpkin and they work great! But i run the hook up, need to try this side hook. The Fall looks way better

@@seanp9157 knowing Imakatsu, it's also probably 4x the cost of this. JDM gear tends to be a notch above, but you pay a premium for it.

They swim amazing, and even that dying bluegill fall... Deadly! The one gripe I have about this lure is a small one, but to me the bait does not look very good. Then again, without those pips and fins, it wouldn't swim right. Either way, its gonna get ate.

I don't like the wide gap rigging bc they always eat the head first because it looks so similar in profile to a bluegill, or green sunfish, nose rigging is my preference in rigging because the straight fold the hook in the back of their mouth. Just giving a tip for those of you that may want to try it

Fished the gilly for the first time today. The hype is real. These things are money.

This is probably the only Berkley bait I have been kinda disappointed with, haven’t gotten so much as a bite with it and it tends to run on its side instead of right side up even with a nail weight in the belly rigged with the EWG hook or with a smaller hook horizontally through the nose. I probably need to throw it more especially around the bluegill spawn but it hasn’t been effective in primarily bluegill forage lakes around me
