Berkley Gulp! Sandworm VS. Live Pile Worm - Which Will Catch More Fish?
Ойын-сауық
I was very curious if live bait (Pileworms in this case) would catch more fish than the artificial well known Berkley Gulp Sandworm. I'm also interested to see what YOU think will catch more. Watch until the end to see which bait outperforms the other in this live bait vs fake bait contest!

you can actually draw a straw poll, it is part of youtube, and all viewers can vote with one touch. Watch a video on youtube to see how you could make one instead of having people dislike ur video and crashing your video's rating to the ground. like so he can see the comment.

actually i assume he knew what he was trying to do i have to hand it to him what he did was realy clever. Id say 9 out of 10 people wil say live bait is better than fake bait and he assigned live bait to "Like" and received many likes over dislikes. He manipulated the system, he encouraged people to interact with the like and dislike system and in the end received what he realy wanted wich was likes.

I've caught fish on chewing gum, piece of yarn, beer can top, piece of wood with glued on glitter, etc. Not saying ready made stuff isn't good but I think there's also a lot of hype out there, sometimes I feel like I'm the fish being caught. Cheers Matt! Couple of nice day's coming up, finally!

Ive never been fishing in my life but thanks to your videos it feels like im experiencing a fisher mans life. Thanks for that!!😊😊
just a little tip which may or may not be of help, here in Australia we have a worm called a tube worm which looks very similar to the pile worm. instead of cutting the pinchers off thread the worm through the mouth and it will bite down on the hook and sort of lock onto the hook meaning your bait is much more secure and won't slip as much. I don't know if it will behave the same but it's near identical to a tube worm so I'm only assuming it would! God bless
I would never dislike one of ur vids bro ! Good stuff keep it up !
I wish there was easier access to fishing where I live

Freshwater fishing if you can't go saltwater 👍🏼👍🏼
My Guy just gave us a lesson about sand barriers and waves
If I'm not mistaken, the Berkley Gulp Sandworm has glitter in it, hence it creates the shimmering effect under the sun light. That itself improves the bite chances
Both likes and dislikes promote the video higher in KZread feed. That being said, I love this channel and I vote for live bait. thumbs up
thanks for the pro tip on reading the beach!

Appreciate the experimentation and sharing it with us! For future experiments, consider all variables to ensure reliable conclusions. In this case, the Gulp bait was always on the bottom hook. Perhaps most fish were cruising low and that's why they went for artificial. Some variables can't be controlled, but occasionally reversing the bait positions or better, fishing with TWO rigs close by, with reversed bait positions, and the conclusion is more reliable. Polite suggestion only- it's hard to criticize your entertaining and informative content. GREAT JOB!!!! Chris

The gulp was on top for the first fish he caught
I use Gulp baits for fresh water all the time and they work just as good and usually BETTER than live night crawlers.
live bait or cut bait is virtually always better than artificial bait, unless you are fishing for farm-raised fish that have never had live food. However the Gulp-sandworms are pretty tough. I've caught three or four fish in a row on the same rubber worm and then put it back in the pouch.
I often recycle some soft plastics in the gulp juices too :-) -- Synthetics are convenient and practical for hard core hobbyists that do not plan, or have time to catch their bait. Many of my buddies from the northeast have switched from squid to gulp... for convenience alone. --- valid experiment.
Your tips in this video help me and my lady hook into a bunch of surf perch this last weekend. We hit a school using the Berkley gulp sand worm. Hell yeah! And you know we cooked them in a little bit of butter!
Blood worms work the best! I got a bunch perch with them!!!👍🏻👍🏻
@3:56...."Personally, I like the middle of the hole!" Me too brotha!!!!!!!!!! God Bless.
These artificial worms would be a good idea when I'm fishing with a three hooks setup. Usually its the bottom hook that catches the most, so I could use a real sandworm on that one and use fakes on the other hooks.
You have to take into consideration that the pile worm caught the bigger fish, while the sandworm caught all the little fish.
Love the head-to-head comparison. I bet you can think of more!
ive pretty much always used gulp and have always had better luck with it, so its nice to see it works
saltwater fishing on the Pacific coast is SOO much different than fishing the gulf here in Florida
That big rock you were fishing at used to have a pathway that went out to it and fisherman would throw bugeye jigs for stripers. If someone hooked one, someone else would have to hold the fishing line on the northside of the rock while the fisherman would run down the path to the little beach you were on and land the striper. Once the fisherman reached the beach, he would signal the dude holding his line on the rock and tell him to let the line go. It was crazy because I remember a dude from Brisbane fell off of the front side of the rock. The dude used to drive a Corvair I remember.
Surprised by results. Can we do a Gulp! Sandworm vs Shrimp test?

Fisherman's Life I'm sure you know this but there are also Gulp! Shrimp. I've never tried them but I know ppl in Florida swear by them. Would be cool to see the real deal vs fake measure up. You're fishing all the spots I grew up fishing along the coast. Good stuff, man!

We tear the trout and Redfish up in the Gulf here in Florida on the Gulp Shrimp. They will outfish live bait, sometimes it is because of the colors, sometimes just being able to have the bait stay on the hook longer
The surf fishing info and how to read the waves was great, very helpful
pileworms?? i love how creatures names change round the world im from northern ireland we have the exact same worms only their called king ragworm here! great vid man
Had to drop you a thank you for getting me my first ocean fish. Pulled in two perch and a smelt down in Cambria thanks to your videos and this one in particular.
You are my first subscription for surf fishing. I liked to watch the comparison. I use both. I tried my own comparison with the sand worm and lug worms. I could get 3 lug worm sections per worm.12 worms in a container. I can't remember how much. Went to seal beach. Same as you top, bottom rig. Surf was perfect. I fished sand worms on both hooks, then live on both hooks. At Seal Beach I caught a few with sand worms but killed it with lug worms, Thanks for the vid. I like the way you took the time to explain everything. No matter how small. The reading of the surf to explaining the moss on the rocks. You just taught me how to put both on the hooks. I think everyone has their own style. I was just surprised at the exposed hook. They still hit it. Thanks again.
love using the sandworms from Berkely gulp - pile worms never hold and are expensive. I've had stripers and halibut hit the bait as well. Great video
Is it me or this guy is so good at fishing and being confident
Cool video. From now on I might just go with artificial baits instead of dead ones i.e. prawn, squid or chunk of fish meat.
Love the sandworms. Durable, longer shelf life, and less of a pain in the ass
I know this vid is hella old but thanks for during this experiment. Since I'm relatively new to salt fishing I learned a lot. I really like all of your vids.
I like that you have a normal hook set, other people basically launch the fish out of the water
Hi I didn't realize how new the vid was lol
Thank you finally a KZreadr explains that
I was routing for the live worms, there's so many factors...position of the two bait (top vs. bottom), time of day and setting the hook early or late! Just my 2 nonsense :-)
Not sure where you are fishing, but here in the PNW we called those worms kelp-worms. Have used them many times when fishing from the jetties, when I run out of other bait. Have caught some nice pink ear sea perch Just chip away at the barnacles and you can find the worms under them. If there is a lot of kelp on the rocks where you are fishing, you can take a few minutes to turn the kelp over and find the bigger worms there. We just threaded them on like a night crawler, on a two hook perch rig, with a flat or pyramid weight at the bottom and a small clear float to keep the bait suspended. It is fun when you hook two good sized perch at a time. Love to fish and used to go when ever I could get out. Had a stroke awhile back and cannot get out like I used to do, it is hard to navigate the beach sand or carry your crab traps, bait and other fishing gear while using a walker. - - - //es//A 70y/o Avid Outdoors Lady(disabled) and Veteran, 1965-1994
Purple Slider 6" works great for bass fishing, now I got to go fishing. Thanks
we call them ragworm here in uk and we use bait elastic to hold them on the hook, works great they stay in place
I am really like your explanation for the wave and find the spot in the beach fishing. Thanks
You make a great point. Berkeley sand worms are a great option to catching perch in comparison to live bate. However, if you really want to compare Apple's to Apple's, you forgot to include live blood worms. I fish in the Monterey Bay for perch on the weekends, and although we don't have a pile worm supplier, we do have blood worm suppliers. I'm not saying you aren't aware of blood worms, but I'm only noting you forgot to also bring blood worms in the competition. And they Are more expensive than the pile worms. In Salinas, they'll run you about $13 per dozen. Depending on size of worms, each worm is good for 4-6 hooks. Like your videos.
In Ireland we call them rag worm and do cut off there head cuz there teeth hold on to the hook and does not come off easy

I really see this fishingchanel explode in some time! keep up the interesting and educational work my friend really apreciate these videos
Berkley always advertises that their artificial lures out fish live bait; Had a hard time believing that, but this video is a good demonstration that it actually does; Good Video!
In the UK, those things are called "Rag Worm". I have dug more than enough of them that are thicker than my thumb and its only the biggest which can cause a minor stinging sensation as opposed to a bite. Sure, it can make you jump sometimes (surprise) but that's the worst I have experienced of them. Now although use both of those worm baits (Gulp and Rag) I have yet to experience a day where the artificial has beaten the real thing. Try them suspended under a float / bobber, but assuming the worms are 6" or longer, hook them an inch down from the head, thread them on carefully so as not butcher the side of the bait, fill the hook and cast out gently. Current and tide will take your gear where it needs to go, so be prepared to let out more line. Best of luck mate!
I could never dislike one of your videos anyway :)
Very well done and informative, Matt. Thanks
Very informational stuff i love it
I like the idea of mystery tackle box
All the times I’ve been nipped with those worms and it never dawned on me to cut the pincers off. A big one will draw blood when it gets on and they have a weird way of contracting back in your fingers then latching on.
Guess the deep part in the surf is actually the current of water outflowing from the shore, it has usually more fish since the out current brings food in form of crustaceans , smaller fish and plants from shore
If you tease the worm to make the pinchers come out then jam the hook between them, it's a really strong hook up. The pincher appendage is a super strong "sleeve" of tissue.
I'm a Fan. What a picturesque setting.
it's funny I was using both one day, they both worked surprisingly equal.
I use gulp all the time and outfish all the people on the boat.... Gulp is way better and if the live bait wins I would be shocked..

Hi TheGaming Hybrid .... I have only used the Gullp white twister tails (little white nymphs) for bluegill and crappie and they worked great but I don't fish freshwater too often so I am not the guy to ask for sure.... Frankly the time I did fish freshwater you could have just put in a plain old hook with nothing on it and probably caught just as many fish...
Thank for posting, important and informative.
I can't bring myself to dislike one of your videos but I gotta go with the gulp worms. been using them for years and they work soooo good on perch.
Thanks for the fishing spots lol. Love your channel binge watching your vids

I met a dude in so cal a couple of years ago and he was using the Berkeley sand worms and he caught a whole bunch of perch. He told me that his buddy got a full bucket the day before.
i dont ever watched one video from you but i couldnt dislike it because i never dislike bevore i viewed the whole video
Awesome video! Didn’t know the gulp worms existed definitely ordered some
3000 people obviously have used the amazing gulp sandworms before. Love your videos man! Was really hard to give you a thumbs down but I don’t even use blood worms (so cal) anymore, only gulps.
Thanks for taking the time to make this. Nice images also.
Low key just watched like 12 of your vids I like em
I live on the Central Coast, and the Gulp bait has ALWAYS produced. The perch went off last year like crazy- it was actually difficult to find the Gulp sand worms in some stores because it was THAT good. Admittedly, I haven't had a chance to get out and fish this year (crying on the inside), but I would bet that the Gulp would produce just the same. Also, based on what I have seen, I think the Carolina rig produces far more than the 2 hook and sinker rig- no hard proof to back that up, though. All that said, I would absolutely rather spend money on the Gulp than pile worms any day of the week.
Louie's cafe in upper left closed permanently.....lots of memories..chasing stripers off fisherman's rock back in '86..world class...
Any Berkley Gulp Product vs Live Bait try the shrimp next.
Not going to lie didnt really expect the fish to pick a gulp you've already cast so many times on over a fresh worm. That has convinced me to just go the gulp now I guess, longer lasting and if I dont use them all I can store them for later
love your videos..I've learnt so much.
do more catch and cooks
AWESOME REVIEW MATE!!!! LOVE IT!!!
Niiiiice,,, very informative video,,, I'm comvinced,,, Gulp sandworms it is... 👍🦈🤜🤛
Just curious if how high off the bottom the lure or bait was, made an impact
The first channel ever asking for dislikes
great videos man , really like the format and the structure of your content
Texas fish and game did this style contest with dead shrimp vs gulp shrimp when it first came out. Gulp won big time.
I liked the video just because I enjoyed it. No original prediction is that the artificial sand worms will do better
to my surprise the fake pile worm for me, they didn't had any live bait at the shop so we went with it. We caught two keepers striped bass! We should fish sometimes, I live in the easy bay!
In my opinion, I'd use that hi-lo rig all of the time for perch but get 3 hooks on it instead of 2.
Thought process about the Deep moving to the shallow all depends on how quick the transition is what type of fish and if it's any sort of rocks or if it's just saying
The video i needed today
This guy is the best.
Great report. Thanks
I voted for the live worm cuz I can't dislike any of your vids. But I'll try the gulps next time and comment on the results here. All else aside, the best thing about the gulps - no f***ing pinchers!!! Another great video, keep 'em coming!
Awesome vid! thanks for the explanation about the sand bars. I always have a hard time surf fishing because I can't read the waves that well... also I normally use sandworms when I surf fish in San Diego so kudos for doing this comparision!! Also, what setup you got there for your rod and reel?
@FishermansLife
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks bro. The rod is an 8ft powerstick by off shore angler and the reel is a Piscifun Stone40
I like the middle of the hole too!
I've had great success with live pile worms. But with all the new tech on adding more shining they may both work best. But I will go with live one's
Nice fishing video! That lady at 10min mark looks familiar! I do a lot of surf perch fishing in in Northern CA and a lady like her usually goes to the place where I go..
they might be easyer to get cought on the hook with the gulp plastic worm but the live worm its what attract the fishes
I use the face one before it work for me ...I still want to give u a tumps up🤗
No need to dislike man and thank you for info
I feel bad for the dislike, but this video was great!
