@@ziggyz2958to me it’s more comfy to get sight picture on the under folder. The fixed stock version has an uncomfortable angle so I have to tilt my head a lot to get proper sight picture

first off, thanks for the breadth of knowledge on Canadian firearms you've provided over the years. now for the sacrilege part: despite your affection for the underfolder, is there a chance you might make a video doing a full disassembly of the folding mechanism, to see if the back plate is removable, and basically whether it's possible to non-destructively remove the undefolder element from the rifle, and see if various Sigmaco stock adapters would fit on it. there are a lot of people who want the T81, but not the underfolder and since clearly TI brought far more of those models in, knowing whether stock could be replaced would make a big difference for many. either way, thank you for the informative videos. you've been upgrading these rifles long before there was Sigmaco or any custom Type 81 furniture for that matter, so I thought I'd ask if you would be willing to do a deep dive on the underfolder and the options of upgrade on it as well.

@gnutzguy yeah mine looks perfect 👌. I did not measure the deviation on this one though. I did with my previous SE that was bent at the rear trunion it turned out be well in spec. With this one i will probably simply use a laser level to pull a straight line from the front sight to the center of the red dot to see if it's close enough but looking from the rear trunion cleaning hole it's close to perfection

@gnutzguy like you suggested it is indeed slightly bent to the right. But i really had to look for it and with the laser level it seems to be only a couple mm off at the middle of the red dot. So i think I will have to zero it and see how it changes the poi at different distances. I will measure the deviation properly to have a point of reference.

I think Tactical Imports has the ability to make most of these from scratch now... or maybe they always have... idk. These M variants along with the SR provide good evidence to support the notion that these arnt just repurposed and modified LMGs. The forgings / castings are different, the tin work is different, the barrel profiles are different. The SRs front sight base has no cleaning rod retainer like the LMG and M. The M has a cleaning rod loop on its gas block that neither the LMG nor SR have. The Ms front trunnion is bored to accept a heavy barrel blank like the LMG and SR however it does not have the carry handle holes. Both the SR and the M have no barrel step to support the LMG bipod. And obviously the SR has a totally different gas port location and the required change to the gas system tin to accommodate that. Interesting stuff for a Type 81 enthusiast.

i never thought that bcos i've heard the LMG was commissioned by norinco (not polytech) who use a different factory which had no bent inspite of a longer barrel so obvious the M wasnt built in that LMG factory.

@@gnutzguyNorinco is the export organisation not an individual factory. Polytech is one of several factories which receive orders from Norinco which acts as a single point of contact for foreign purchasers to approach these companies. So all contracts will be commissioned by Norinco.

@@thomassimpson6901 you are wrong. Norinco and Polytech are both exporters. Both belongs to government but different wing. Example PLA or ministry of defense. They do not manufacture firearms. They commission the production of firearms with different factories. The Canadian importer has been dealing with Polytech and thru Polytech to a factory that builds for norinco.

Great video, did you do anything on the cherry red t81 "se" furniture to make it look so good and shiny? i have some birchwood casey gun stock wax but have been debating using it.

yes, be patience for underfolder. for a fixed you are SOL. some underfolder owners will not like it and sell it at cost. just asked them if its bent

Unfortunately, my sigmaco is a gen 1 , it won't fit variant 2 and 3 T81

You might want to look up the 1 in 60 rule. You need the distance between the 2 measuring points length to turn those mm into degrees. That being said.. that length would have to be less than 60mm which from your diagram is not the case.. Nice review as always!! :)

I have a compatibility question, do you know if the top cherry wood handguard from the type 81 SE SA would fit on a type81M the new one orange wood from this year? I would like to swap it easily and not see any gaps/shims / do any machining. I see you have many versions I’m hoping you might know!

that depends on whether you are talking about the woods on the upper or lower HG. on the upper all are interchangeable except the dragunov variant 2 also bare in mind the orange wood has a deep finger grove where as the red and blonde dont. on the lower, the red are not interchangeable with variant 2 and variant 3, only with variant 1.

Yeah I’m looking for an upper handguard for my orange M from this year, so for the red SA SE upper does the compatibility also extend to the metal piece it’s attached to? The metal part that goes over the gas block, I’m hoping I can go back and forth between these two without messing with rivets each time. Thanks!!!

if using iron sight or red dot on quad rail HG then no. it effect scope users so my deviation is 3mm. my bullet lands 30" off center. but we arent paying mass produced military rifles prices? at $1200 they should afford better QC.

I can only speak for the underfolder and the side folder - yes they are heavier in my opinion. Not a deal breaker for me.

To my knowledge, you can't cut barrel to restricted. Best to consult with a gunsmith plus the bore is chrome so you need to be careful not to chip it around the muzzle then you need to crown it.

@gnutzguy I meant to cut the grenade launcher sleeve to the original 2-rings length plus add the longer ring at the muzzle. Maybe even the groove for the bayonet. I'd prefer not to mess with the barrel if possible. Of course, I would consult a gunsmith for the same reasons you mentioned. I also don't have a lot of the required tooling and would probably ruin the rifle if I did😅 Thanks for answering.

I got a type81m fixed and it is noticeably bent, disappointed and dont want it anymore, going to try and send it back.

​@@gnutzguythat's because so many people have become convinced that their gun is bent when in reality it's perfectly fine. No doubt some have issues, like TI said .05% of all previous rifles had the issue. One guy screaming out of 2000 makes everyone think the issue is universal. It's good they require proof or else theyd end up refunding perfectly fine rifles.

not as good . the LMG was the best (thus no bent) and you can get blued finish. this variant only comes in park.

I'm buying a T81 underfolder. They are priced lower than most other T81. Will put underfolder on SKS for the ultimate ruck sack rifle. Then will fiddle around putting either a fixed stock or VZ58 side folder on the T81. Problems to my perfect plan?

when i first posted a vid on installing a underfolder on SKS, the problem was there werent enuff of AK underfolders in canada, plenty in the US. the T81 solves that problem. good plan, i wanna do the same vid but the only problem i see is how do you plug the large gapping holes (looks fugly) left by the underfolder? hoping for an upstart company to make an alloy adapter that will solve that problem, similar to the AK underfolder to M4 stock in the US.

My Bubba spirit is strong and I'm a toolmaker so I'll figure out something. Also, I'm in touch with NorthernArmoury on Gunpost he produce nice 3D printed stuff for the T81. Plenty of SR owners with buyers remorses to help too!

The deviation is for horizontal bend . Is there a test for a vertical bend or does that matter ?

For T81? Yes , same test, very easy to test from the top but how do you verify the deviation from the bottom?

Watch out for a chip in the barrel just below the crown ....I had 3 separate replacements with the exact same issue in the exact same spot...tactical imports said it was a manufacturers issue....said they couldnt garuntee how many were like that.. seem ok with selling them to people though

I’m still waiting for mine to arrive.

How precise are magnets stuck to the side of a stamped piece of steel and then also using a ruler that could have a bend in it ? I’m not saying you are wrong, but I wouldn’t be convinced it was bent using this method. And does it really do anything ? The barrel isn’t bent. It may not be perfect on the receiver but that could be on anything and i don’t think it matters much with a rifle that has both sites on the barrel. I could be wrong. I’m curious on someone else’s input.

Someone did a break down and SR has different pinning on the barrel. Pins are further apart.

yup, you can but first you need to watch my underfolder disassembly (not easy) and secondly, you dont mind gapping holes left by the underfolder. some people are making 3d printed adapter that cover up the holes and attach a m4 tube but suspect it wouldnt last. needs to be made of alloy.

The method to check if line is centred on the barrel doesn't seem right. In your example, if the line is drawn 2mm off centre to either side, the 2 measurements would still add up to 44mm.

For the deviation test- It would make more sense to measure to one side of the barrel (as in the side furthest from your straight edge, regardless of the side you measure). The way you do it does NOT correct for if you aren't exactly centred on the barrel with your marks (if you are 2mm to the left, then that side shows 2mm less and the other 2mm more). Great info though, thx.

@@captaincj2778 no misunderstandings. The adapter is made for AK and AKM which are prohibited in Canada. We are not allowed to import any parts made for prohibited guns so it's risky purchase. It could be ceased by CBSA.

It's not the receiver nor the barrel, both are straight. It's at the barrel block, not something any of us should tackle. Best left for a gunsmith.

@@gnutzguy are there any negatives to this ? I thought it was the receiver because my side mount for the scope doesn't center and is way off, plus looking down the receiver it looks pushed out on the left side.

@@gnutzguy I was referring to my own gun btw but I'm guessing most barrel blocks are offset or is the block actually warped/bent?

@@hardstyle719 how much is yours deviated? If your receiver is actually bent then you would experience fail to feed and fail to eject.

@@hardstyle719 the problem lies with the short barrel blocks, no issue with the long barrel blocks used in the lmg and sr so don't know why they can't fix it?

My fixed stock type m is bent also, so dissatisfied

One of the biggest reasons that I have never bought one is the chance that it will be bent. That would drive me nuts!

Because I like math I did it for yall Numbers rounded and going off 3mm over 18 inches. 50m shot puts your point of impact 0.7 inches over 100m shot puts your point of impact 1.4 inches over If your using the irons, the bent trunnion isn't an issue. If your using a receiver mounted scope sighted in at 50m your point of impact at 100m will be ½" off

your math is wrong. using basic math. 3mm= 18" 328mm= 50m (1968") 656mm= 100m (3937") .... 656mm is 25.8" not 1.4"

You say 3 degrees is that not 3m/m if so that gun would shoot like shit 3 m/m at the tube will be like how much off center at 100 yrds 30 feet just saying i was going to buy one of these but after seeing some videos on how they are off well they can keep them now that being said is it bent or is it just not centered in the trunion block oh and that vz58 what happened to that gun did you chop the barrel down and if you did um i sure the hell your not up here in CANADSTAN LIKE IAM because i am pretty sure the little thing would be classes as prohib in fact that would be um worse the chopping down an old side by side shot gun actually that would be good old rcmp bait i like my rpal to much to have that kind of gun
