At its heart lies a fusion of vintage inspiration and modern innovation. Two distinct spring tanks, a long 2-spring and a short 3-spring, blend seamlessly to create a lush, immersive reverb that evokes the sun-drenched shores of California. The optical tremolo, reminiscent of the mid-sixties combo amp sound, offers an extended range of speeds, ensuring you can dial in that perfect pulsating rhythm with ease.
But the Surf’s Up isn’t just a nostalgic trip down memory lane; it’s a leap forward in surf effects technology. Benson has gone above and beyond to enhance both functionality and tone, introducing features like trails when the reverb is switched off, consistent volume even when tremolo is engaged, and low source impedance to preserve every nuance of your sound.
To combat noise issues common in spring reverbs, Benson incorporated a modern ground scheme borrowed from the world of hi-fi, eliminating pesky ground loops for pristine sound quality. Partnering with Soursound, they developed custom transformers-a power transformer with low flux density to banish hum from the reverb tanks, and a bespoke bifilar reverb driver transformer for optimal tank drive.
But perhaps the most ingenious innovation lies in taming the infamous tremolo ticking sound. By ingeniously placing an electrostatic film between the neon lamp and the photoresistor in the LDR, Benson has virtually eliminated this unwanted artifact, ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted tremolo experience.

Amazing video showing some of the knobs and settings. Ordered and excited to get mine in this Thursday! Curious to hear how it sounds with my Benson Vincent. It would be awesome if you can do a comparison with the onboard reverb on the Monarch+ compared to this. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the differences between the two reverbs!

Putting this on a Benmaster that has zero headroom and is not Beach Boy-ey amp is great. I mean it looks great.

yeah, as i mentioned in another comment, i suspect we’ll see something similar from benson at some point with ongoing availability. just my gut feeling.
Why does your drive tone sound so lifeless here? Normally it sounds like it's actually going through an amp, here it sounds super DI-ish...

No a ticking tremolo is fixed by one component. Thats just fact. BS ometer is full on.. go watch tube amp 101. Theres a whole section on ticking in a tremolo
