The pan mechanism is very, very stiff, even when fully loosened. You can pan clockwise, but panning anticlockwise unscrews the head from the tripod. It is possible, using super-human strength, to deliberately over tighten the head onto the tripod to prevent this from happening, but don't expect to ever remove it again!
does it support 501pl plates?

The S2Pro will not accept a 501PL plate.
