There are too many KZread video bashing this concept. It is not necessary, and there are some trade off. That number is more of an idea number for some but not a hard rule by any means. It is a misconception. As far as GPU, I am using dual 4K display that does not have the necessitate PPI that you mentioned, scaled to the higher scaling option and it works just fine. New M series chip, even the base one have great GPUs and people also forgot that these chip has a display engine that help with the heavy lifting.

Print wise either display will work and does not effect the print at all. As far as video in the future, if you want to view 4K videos at 100% then yes 4K display, but for me, even though I edit and film in 4K, I rarely review back my videos in 4K full screen. Hey, great videos! Subbed a couple of days ago. I'm very much leaning towards the SW271, as it's within my price range and I need for 1) print-first content (creating posters) but also for 2) creating videos. Slightly worried that it's becoming a little old. Also had a look at PD2720U (again strong AdobeRGB coverage) but this seems discontinued? What would you recommend? Thanks!

  • @ArtIsRight

PD line are not hardware calibrated, so if you want the best accuracy, look at the SW line. As far as age, I wound't worry too much about that, the core fundamental tech in these display have not changed much, i.e. still LED back light IPS panel, still 99% Adobe RGB, etc. And either way the display is still a new one from the factory with a recent manufacture date. So I would say if you are leaning toward the SW271 just lean in further and get one! The SW271C is a great improvement, but the baseline SW271 is a great display to start with.

    3 жыл бұрын

I have not tested the Dell and let me put it this way, they makes great displays but predominantly their software is heavily geared toward PC, i.e. they have not Mac software. So if you are on a Mac you are better off with BenQ. This said the model that you are looking at does have hardware calibration, or at least base on what I am seeing, it seems like they do have it. But they don't list the spec for the hardware calibration, how many bits, etc. So information is lacking there. It does have a build in calibrator which BenQ does not have and that is a good and bad thing. Good that it is build in, bad in a sense that if the display goes busted the calibrator goes with the display as well and you can't use it to calibrate another device. BenQ does have the hotkey puck which the dell does not have. So give and take. If you are look at this compared to the SW271 I would go with the SW271, if you are comparing this to the SW271C I can tell you that the panel inside SW271C is better.

Does the Colour sync work with ICC custom paper profiles I have from my paper supplier? I have an Epson SC 600 printer

  • @ArtIsRight

    @ArtIsRight

    3 жыл бұрын

The way how this work is by choosing the paper and not icc profile. Right now support is mostly for 1st party paper only with plans to expand to others 3rd party papers in the future. What you can do, however, is choose a first paper from the available list that closely matches the paper you are using and that will get you really close. I have tested this out. Or another thing that you can do if you want to use D50 to D55 for printing it to just calibrate the display at that color temperature. And the simplest thing to do is calibrate your display to D65 and get a light source that is D65 like this kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqOey9iNnZe7cqw.html and just use that for print viewing. The goal here is to match print with display for the 1 instance in time when you are viewing / proofing it next to each other.

Good morning Art. I'm using the SW271 with my macbook air M1. For the most part it works just great and I have no issues, the image quality and colors are excellent, and the performance is great. The only thing, and maybe you can help me here, is that recently I've noticed that when my laptop is not connected with the power source cable, the monitor says "no signal detected" when the laptop is closed/folded. Only when I put back the power cable the monitor would recognize the laptop. The resolution also goes crazy when i put the cable back on, so I have to reopen the laptop, readjust the resolution back to 4k, and close it again. This is not a major issue because it takes few seconds to fix it, although is a bit annoying. What bothers me more is that without the power cable the monitor won't recognize the laptop being connected, and that is a bit dissapointing because I have to use both two usb c ports at all times just for the connection itself. Would you confirm this is how it is supposed to be with this model of benQ? And if that shouldnt be the case, how to fix this? Thank you in advance (I have also tried with an app called Anfetamine that even if you close the laptop, it continues to work as if it was opened. Same results)

I am kind of considering a BenQ monitor for photography and video and then came across the Asus ProArt PA329C, a 100% Adobe RGB, 32” hardware calibratable monitor for $1084. I would have considered the BenQ PD3220U, but you cannot hardware calibrate it, and it only covers approx. 86.7% of the Adobe RGB color space. This new BenQ SW271C seems a bit pricy at $1599 when compared to the SW321C. The BenQ SW321C is a little out of my budget; considering this won’t be used professionally, this is a hobby. In saying that, I want a relatively good monitor that I can get accurate prints from my printer. Whatever monitor I decide on will be used as my primary monitor, alongside my 2020 iMac. For 32" BenQ have the SW321C it has a really matted panel that is totally unique in the industry right now. Also if you are going to get a hardware calibrated display I would do research and due diligence on Asus, their hardware calibration is different, the software does not provide an icc profile for the system, which is generally customary even with hardware calibrated display, this icc profile contains the color gamut output and white point. Asus does not implement this for some reason. BenQ like EIZO and many other hardware calibrated display brands does implement the icc profile. Also BenQ SW line up now have 16 Bit LUT vs 14 Bit LUT like other brands.

If I calibrated these monitor with hardware calibration on Win 10 or Mac intel, than I guess they are automatically hardware calibrated also then I would use them on Mac mini M1, correct? I have a Mac mini M1, but I also still have on old mac mini intel which I could use for that at the moment until Benq will release PME for M1.

Mac intel calibration would yield a better result for the M1. Also bring the icc profile over from the Mac intel to M1 as well when you do this.

I know that many panels in the CG line is, that is why they cost much more than BenQ. Their CS line is similar to BenQ. And if you compare the two line, BenQ at this point represents a better value.

The visual difference is negligible. And unless one fall under the specific use case for 10 bit, it is not really necessary. Most displays has been 8 bit + FRC for the longest time, it is just now that people are starting to wake up to the spec. I am not saying it does not matter, but I think that many over concern themself with the specs and over look the usability of the tool. :)

It usually come down to cost both manufacturing and the cost that would need to get pass on to customers. I have a true 10 bit sitting next to an 8 bit + FRC and in the 4-5 years that I have been using it, I can't see the difference, if any in daily use. And when it comes to tare 10 bit panel you are looking at scenario. 10 bit with a fixed out (software calibration) cheaper, and 2-3 times the price 10 bit with adjustable 3D LUT (hardware calibration). :)

If you're looking for a proper reference monitor for photography and color grading there are no substitutes. Go for Eizo or Flanders Scientific, for professional work you need true 10bit, perfect uniformity and color accuracy and 3DLut support. Stay away from Benq, Asus Pro Art or Apple Pro Display XDR.

And if you have that kind of money, working in highend hollywood production, make 5 digits on a shoot or something along those line then it makes perfect sense. There are pros and there are pros, if you are the former and have the money then great, for other pros, these display represent better value. Everything comes down to budget, needs and values. Absolute is what I don't preach on in my teaching and on my channels, everyone have different needs. And it seems the highend suits you just fine :)

@@ArtIsRight My comment wasn't meant to discredit anything you said in the video. it was meant as a helpful tip for anyone considering doing serious professional color work on a Benq display. Again I'm speaking to you who is looking to purchase a proper reference monitor. I know there are a lot of choices out there today so I just wanted to give a helpful tip. Eizo and Flanders Scientific is the professional standard. And in the super high end there is Sony but then we are talking displays in the 30 000 dollar range so that is not comparable. The Benq Displays are okay if you really have a tight budget. But if you're looking to buy one of the Benq Displays in the 1500-2000 dollar range I would recommend you look at some of Eizos displays in the same price range which are much better and industry standard. But if you are looking to spend less than a thousand dollars then yes, I would agree that Benq is not a bad choice. Then I would definitely choose a Benq display over an Asus Pro Art.

I hear you. One thing that I want to add is that, if you are looking at the BenQ display in the 1500-2000 range and trying to find an equivalent Eizo, price wise, they would be looking at CS line which many models in the line up employ the same technology as BenQ being 8 bit + FRC. It is not until you get to their CG line that the display offer true 10 bit panel, this is often a detail that gets over looked when comparing Eizo to BenQ. Eizo has been at the top for so long and there were not many choices in the market, once BenQ came in, it pushes Eizo to launch their CS line to compete in the value market place, a place, which leaves it up to Eizo, my guess is that, they would not want to be in. But competition is good. And Flanders is at the top. This said, I would still consider BenQ range when comparing Eizo CS, regardless of price. However, if you are looking at their CG line then yes go Eizo.

A few more additional things to clarify this for others that read these comments, true 10 bit aside, BenQ uniformity technology gen 2 and 3 are really great and bring their display much more inline with Eizo quality, color accuracy is there and has always been there and their SW line all come with 3D LUT, and the models with the '"C" moniker in the name, all of these models LUT have been update to 16 BIT 3D LUT

@@ArtIsRight I forgot about the exchange rate. In Sweden the BenqSW321c is almost the same price as the CG279x. So it depends what country you are in I guess. I checked Amazon and the CG247x is under 2000 dollars there. So yes its more like in the 2000-2500 dollar range. But in Europe the difference is not that much. So the high end Benq and 27" eizo is close in price. But yes the Eizo is still a little more expensive 300dollars more maybe, but if someone is looking to do serious professional work I would say that those 300-500 dollars are worth it. I mean if it's meant for work. Also if you have your own business, it's a tax write off. But yeah Eizo is still more expensive, but when you compare the high end displays the difference is worth it I would say. And yes I agree, if your looking at Eizo for professional work, you have to go for the CG line. So yes it's more in the 2000-2500 dollar range.
