Une pensée pour sa fille Mariah Carel

I used to be a fan of Benny Hill since my childhood and Roger Carel's as well. When I lived in Paris I used to meet him in the Paris'subway once in 1999 - he was a real gentleman to me and very polite, thanked me with a firm handshake to have recognized him and to have the honesty to go to talk to him a little. This was a magnificent moment in my life.

Roger Carel has just celebrated his 93 years, he is a living legend of dubbing in France.

Benny Hill was a true francophile, speaking fluently. Sadly Roger Carel passed away a few days ago. I loved both of them, the voices and tele of my childhood.

@Rodimus Prime fluent doesn't mean perfect, it just means that you can communicate well without having to stop and think all the time. Judging by this video he's an intermediate speaker but that's probably enough to classify him as fluent.

j'ai même l'impression que c'est le personnage qui se rapprochait le plus de sa voix naturelle... dans cet extrait j'entendais plus Astérix que la voix française de Benny Hill.

C'était un sacré doubleur de voix et un très bon comédien français. Décédé le 11/09/2020 et depuis le 17 septembre, il repose au caveau familial à Aigre. Toutes mes condoléances à sa famille et ses proches. On vous oubliera jamais. Reposez en paix. 😢

I never get tired of anything Benny did. I'd watch his shows at every chance I could. Nobody can compare to the creativity and imagination he had.

Il adorait la France. Un francophile assumé.... D'ailleurs sont humour a eu plus de succès en France dans les années 80 qu'au Royaume Uni... Il adorait la Côte d'Azur (comme 99.99 % des Britanniques)....

Je ne savais pas que Benny Hill savait parler français, je suis agéablement surpris. S'il avait pu peaufiner son accent, il aurait probablement pu se doubler lui-même, comme le fait par exemple Jane Fonda.

@@korelly J'avais vu la version française de Cat Ballou, où elle se doublait elle-même. C'est vrai que son français est excellent (meilleur que celui de bien des francophones), quoique on puisse percevoir un très léger accent. La championne pour l'auto-doublage en français est à mon avis Jodie Foster, qui m'épate chaque fois que je l'entends parler français.

omg I love benny hill, people forgot about how much he cared for the staff around him and other actors, sacrificing pay and time to work around their schedules, treating his hair dressing staff, his wardrobe staff, just about anyone he could help. He wasnt just about bringing smiles, but bringing joy, purpose and hope to others he worked with and helped get started in the industry.

Dès que j,entendait la petite musique d,ouverture de tames productions j,étais le plus heureux des gamins de ce qui allait suivre . When I watch this, it somehow feels as if Benny still was alive and this was recorded just recently. I can't believe it has been almost 30 years now. I love Laural & Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese, but Benny Hill was the greatest of all!! RIP Benny.

@@KG1970. As well as regional French accents. Blake Edwards turned him down for a small role in the Pink Panther series, as Benny asked him what type of Parisian accent he wanted. Edwards mistook this as Benny being a smart arse!

Benny Hill speaking in French, truly amazing. I am glad he met Roger Carel as both shared this special mindset called Joie de vivre. Loved the Benny Hill show dubbed in French early eighties on French TV at 8 pm on Fr 3. Roger Carel's voice was unique, so clear, multifaceted with impeccable phrasing. Voice dubbing is an art often underrated and unrecognized but it is also big part of acting as you also need to step physically into a character to make it vocally credible. He was a master of the art. RIP Monsieur.

Roger Carel died on September 11 at 93 years old. Hope he will find back Benny for some laughs !

Thank you so much for posting this. It brings back a lot of memories of my dad. Benny was one of his favorite comedians and he would watch him on tv for years. My dad passed away in January of 2019 after having a stroke and quadruple heart surgery. I appreciate being able to see these clips from a while ago and think back on the things me and my dad used to share. Thank you again and I hope you have a wonderful day 🥀

Sadly, Roger Carel died on September 11th at the age of 93. He had retired in 2015, after having recently dubbed David Suchet in Hercule Poirot since the beginning of the series. He had also been chosen by Disney to give his voice to a large number of characters for more than 60 years. Even Charlie Chaplin had chosen him, to show how well Francophones know his talent. RIP Roger, hope they must be laughing together, somewhere...
