Charlie Christian played the first electric guitar solos ever heard in a band. Rock music can grace some of its roots to this man and his work. Groundbreaking for its time!

When I hear Charlie Christian play,I get chills not only because his playing was so precise, hip and swinging, but that it had such an effect on the developments in modern jazz to come.He is one of those musicians who died so young that you can only wonder what might have been. But Charlie is still a major influence on today's guitarists.

@@musik102 He set the pace for ALL SOLO GUITAR PLAYERS with his great aggressive and chordal note improv solos....and RIFFS, this is GREAT MUSIC AT THE CORE!! Charlie is who Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, all the rest of the fine Jazz guitars copied and was influenced by! The King of guitar soloing: CHARLIE CHRISTIAN! I never would have played/recorded so much music (over 10,000 sessions records, movies, TV shows) if I didn't know his playing, styles and inventiveness!

Charlie Christian set the modern approach of playing the guitar into motion.Fittingly, one of Charlie's after-hours jam partners was Thelonious Monk, who many heard them were described as " hand-in-glove" He was the main influence on the great Wes Montgomery.

it's a Lionel Hampton penned tune. It was reportedly developed while Hampton was in the Benny Goodman band. A gig in 1939 required the band to fly from Los Angeles to Atlantic City, the first time Hampton had flown. He began whistling a tune while waiting for the plane to taxi. Goodman asked him what it was, and Hampton said, "I don't know. We can call it 'Flying Home,' I guess. Hampton later confessed that the tune was a way for him to keep his mind off of the impending flight. The Goodman Quartet played the tune for the first time that night; later that year Goodman recorded the first version of the song, featuring a memorable solo from pioneering guitarist Charlie Christian. Hampton liked the song so much that it became his theme once he left Goodman.
