Benjamin Dale From Introduction and Andante for six violas op 5 / Royal Stockholm Philharmonic

English Benjamin Dale was a familiar composer in his home country during his lifetime. He studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music. Dale often performed with alto violinist Lionel Tertis and composed several works for their concerts. He also composed orchestral music and a violin sonata.
His music fell into obscurity, in part because his traditional late-Romantic style was no longer perceived as relevant after World War II. But now, it is recovering its place in the repertoire. Introduction and Andante for six violas was a commission composed for Lionel Tertis, who needed a piece that he and five of his students could perform.
