As someone who had a 943 back in the day, my brother used it to try and learn how to sharpen on a work sharp… has no tip at all. Ugh. I’ve also purchased the same green 940 at least 4 times. Lose one and then buy another just to find the original later. I get the 940 insanity. Best knife design ever for my daily use.

I love my benchmade axis locks, but i have had a standard crooked river break an omega spring, and i have a 940-1701 that currently has a broken omega spring that im waiting on sending back. (The 940 spring lasted 3 months) i have a hogue ritter grip that i have warrantied after breaking an omega spring after only 4 days in my pocket. Then it came back and lasted 2 weeks, snapped another omega spring and is ALSO watiting on me to send it back for warranty again. I put all of my broken spring axis locks in my shadowbox and im back to my Large CRK Insingo 21 again. (No warranty after 8 years in my pocket) P.s. no foofoo Chinese crap in my collection 🤣

When Rob chimes in towards the end saying something down the lines of no fluffy Chinese flipper knife couldn’t handle what this 940 has been doing, I was literally thinking the similar thought while I was viewing this upload and it reminded me why my collection is structured the way it is, not to mention the pride of ownership a knife like this 940 should bring to anyone. Btw hey Rob I love the edge you laid on my Pallas 👍🏻 you do great work. One more thing,,, keep an eye out for another 0550 for me. Thanks

I will tell you what happened to that knife. Somewhere in that knife's history, it switched hands from a person who originally bought it and knew what that knife was. And I am sure the original knife owner took very well care of it even if it was used hard. It then changed hands to somebody who didn't know what the knife was. They saw it as an ugly weird looking knife and pretty much dogged it and then discarded it. It probably was left outside or lost for lack of care. I myself have come across other people's Benchmade 940 knives in poor condition and they did not know what a Benchmade brand is and used them like common cheap pocket knives and they looked common and cheap as they were scratched up and worn. When it comes to showing age and wear, Benchmade is no superman.

In overalls ,cargo pocket with a flap over it has always worked out fine. The only knives that I still have are the little OLD cases, bucks ect. I dig & misuse knives occasionally. That’s what is so interesting about this one. Want a good metal scale knife with a good blade and axis lock.thx for any advice you have. I’m not a collector or anything. $200?????????????????? Whuuuuuuuuhhhh? Yeah he paid a little much but that's OK. Character isn't cheap. Btw I've owned Benchmades since 2008 or so and I've never broken an omega spring. I've owned my Cold Steel recon-1 with the similar Ultra lock since 2004 and have literally beaten the shhhhh out of it to include chopping through a 5" evergreen that blocked the road in a snow storm in the mountains. It has some lock rock after that and lots of other chopping but it's still 100% reliable and I've never broken it's omega springs. I've also never broken the omega springs in my Sig Sauer P-226 and P-229 I've fired many thousands of rounds through since 1991 and 1994 respectively. I seriously don't understand how people break enough of them to warrant concern.

I’m interested in getting on. Honestly I’m on the fence on weather to get a real one or a clone. I’m on a TIGHT budget. & Iv lost last 4 Iv purchased to a sprung pocket clip I bent back and assumed it would be ok until I got time to scavenge a better clip from a knife I wasn’t using. Nope!2nd bend of the clip, didn’t feel a thing. 4 civivi paraxis in less than 6 months. Last one was a damascus model. Spent enough on those to have had one of these. IF ,I were to get a real one, I prefer a deep pocket clip & in particular, the short stout ones that come on the bugouts. These are good quality no doubt. Any thoughts on switching the clip,or reason why I shouldn’t. That is if I get a real one. I’m always in the woods. Tree limbs are the ,crawling over logs ect. are the culprit most times. Just started noticing Benchmade knives recently. Want 1st axis lock knife is how it got started. Good video, liked and subscribed. & will check out your sponsor. Take care.

I think you spend too much time reading internet myths. Omega spring failures are extremely rare, and Benchmade fixes them for free, forever. Several years ago I did a rather exhaustive search for photographic evidence of broken omega springs. I found exactly 7 photos on the internet, of exactly 3 knives, which had pictures of broken springs. How many hundreds of thousands of Axis Lock knives has Benchmade sold in the last 25 years? That said, in every other aspect of strength, reliability and ease of use, the Axis Lock mechanism is far superior to frame and liner locks. Finally, if you do break a spring, the lock will still function in an emergency situation - jam a stick in the slot to hold the Axis bar forward, and you have a fixed blade. End of rant.

The Kool-Aid is strong 💪 I will never understand the following that Benchmade has. The 940 has to be one of the ugliest designs in pocket knife history… The Bugouts are flimsy junk… The Shootout would be at home in any fleamarket… The Bailout is a travesty, outclassed by many a gas station folder… Poor aesthetics, bad design, laughable builds - and you get all that at ridiculous prices! The Axis lock is their only contribution to knifedom, and that was promptly done better by competitors the minute the patent expired. With so many better values and outstanding domestics, how do they keep it going? Idk. The Hogue Deka wharny is what a 940 aspires to be, it’s a tank, great design and ergos, AND in Magnacut - and still 30% LESS than the cheapest 940.
