Bench Top Router Table Build - FREE PLANS

FREE PLANS here: drive.google.com/file/d/0B1Kl...
In this video I build a very simple bench mounted router table for my 1/4" DeWalt router trimmer. I got the idea from one made by Steve Ramsey.
The table and fence are made from 18mm MDF and 38x63 CLS timber for the frame which is fixed together using pocket screws. I used some aluminium t-track with t-bolts for the fence to slide along.
I use a double flute straight router bit with a bearing at the top to cut out the square for the acrylic and the groves for the t-track. Some people call it a template or profiler bit. The bearing runs along and follows the MDF template I placed around the acrylic and T-Track which is then removed and and cuts a square/grove to the exact size. You need to set the bit to the same depth as the acrylic or T-Track
Here is a link to the bit I used: www.trenddirectuk.com/46-900x...

I've watched many many videos on how to build a router table. Your design was simple and using the carpet tape to jig a frame to route out the center was genius. It worked great. Thanks you.

Man, you are going to be my inspiration to do a router table, finally... I'll only add one modification to your project; another T-track parallel to the fence, to attach feather or other jigs. Thanks for your effort and to share it; won a subscription.

Checked out dozens of vids and finally found the one that jumped out and said BUILD ME ! Well explained and this is totally doable when I get my T track. I have access to an L form aluminium profile 150mm x 100 x 12mm that i intend to use for the fence. 100% 90 degrees . Well done and look forward to seeing more. Regards from Sweden.

Being reasonably new to woodworking, and still putting together my tool collection, I found this very helpful. Not sure I'll be making the table base as I'd like to extend my saw table so as to incorporate the router. But the rest of your build I'll definitely be copying as I find your video easy to follow, concise, in plain language followed with a descriptor, and backed up with a plan. Very thoughtful - thank you. It's a 'thumbs up' from me. regards Richy

We did that with the same router, and used an old display table from K-Mart. The melamine surface cut beautifully and we made several drop in inserts for a couple of tools. It rolls around the shop easily to help stay out of the way. Using the acrylic really makes it a good build. Nice way to let people get ideas how to accomplish something good without dropping a ton of cash.

So many of these guides seem to over-complicate the fence. I like the way you approached it. It's functional and does a specific job. Sure, it can be finished beautifully, but that's an optional extra for most of us. I do like the suggestion below of a parallel T-track for guiding jigs. I also like the idea you mentioned of a guiding rule at each side of the fence to make sure it's straight. I guess we adapt your basic design to suit our own purposes and requirements, but this is a great starters' guide. Thanks.

Great job, excellent little table. If you are really unhappy with the acrylic part ( I know the feeling of not being perfectly happy with a completed project), you may want to consider buying the Kreg router plate and just dropping it in to the square you have already created. Then again I like the fact that yours is clear and their's is not. It is nice to see the LED light when you you turn your router on, nice little touch. Great video too.

Great video and a very versatile table with lots of space to add extras to customise it your exact requirements. I use feather boards on my router table that came with it when I brought it new in a box at first I thought the feather boards would be useless and not needed but I have since found out there very useful I have 1 on each end of the fence to push the work downwards and 1 flat on the table to push the work towards the fence it works really well as there adjustable.

Having been searching and researching for myself, the reason he custom made a base plate out of acrylic is because DeWalt in their infinite wisdom decided to go with a different hole spacing to everyone else so none of the base plates will fit due to their stupid 62 x 62 hole spacing as opposed to the regular 70 x 62.

Brilliant Router Table. Video really clear - and demonstrated simple and skilful working. Plans were excellent. Made this about six months ago - following the plans almost exactly. Taught me about pocket hole jigs, making use of double-sided tape, and introduced me to routing for cabinet-making. Had to enlarge square hole as my router base is slightly larger than the one used in the video, and modifed the size of the table base so that I could clamp it to my old black and decker workmate when in use. Then realised my router didn't have an on/off switch that was suitable for table use - so now have a new 1/2" router as well - no regrets! Tried to make a donation to the just giving page but couldn't get the link to work - would be very happy to to do so.

like the simplicity of your design. With the central hole in the acrylic, as far as I can understand it, it is not the using of forstner bit that caused the messy result, but that you used it to enlarge on an existing smaller hole (I did the same mistake but on hardwood). I'm pretty sure also using the holesaw bit would be messy too if the central drill bit fall in an existing previous hole. I guess these bits need sort of anchoring in the centre to work the way they are supposed to do it.

The one thing I really like about my fellow Britons doing this, a good idea as well, is that, unlike our American fellows, the Brits will use one word, where they would use a thousand instead? Most other videos, I'm knackered just listening to them!

Nice job mate. Out of the 5-6 different DIY router table videos I have viewed I find this one very simple and really nice. I put this design and video on top of my list.
