Ben Shapiro and Piers Morgan Revisit Their Viral Gun Control Debate

In this clip, Piers Morgan and I revisit our viral debate over the issue of gun control. I greatly appreciate Piers' willingness to accept my invitation to join the Sunday Special-especially given our well-documented policy disagreements. Piers was "cancelled" by the woke mob just a few weeks ago for absolutely no reason; it's extremely important that conservatives stand up against cancel culture in all of its manifestations. At this point, anyone to the right of AOC is being castigated out of society as deplorable and irredeemable, and things are only going to get worse from here. Agreed, but I can't help but think that a big part of the original blowup was on Morgan's old show, His format not Ben's. I think that dust up occurred precisely how Piers wanted it to, and at least partly(if not mostly)for ratings. Same issue when he had Ted Nugent on. Now he's on Shapiro's show, Shapiro's format and it played out as Ben wanted it. Fundamentally, I just have an issue against a Brit lecturing Americans about gun rights. He's now OK with restricting knife ownership. He looks at it as the same topic. That is, in my opinion, the very definition of a nanny state. Where does it stop? I think the reason he's ok with this line of thought(and others)is he can't conceive of a scenario where a society like the US or Britain could break down to a level of chaos where guns are needed. Even when there are examples all over the world. It's short sighted and unrealistic in my view.

The problem is that Piers is amazingly egotistical, but like an abusive person in a relationship, after he's done trying to beat you, he acts nice to the point that you forget he's not a jagoff. @Grandfather_Din_Racket It's fine to say you like your guns and you don't want to lose them but to say the government could murder you and you need your guns to defend yourself is very schizophrenic. If the gov really wanted to kill you, they have MUCH more fire power and means to do it so even if you did have a lot of guns, that's not going to prevent your eminent death. They have jets with bombs, drones with bombs, they have biowarfare and satellites. Do you think a machine gun is going to slow them down?

So then own guns, right? At least have a chance to fight back? Or are you saying your gov has a better opportunity to slay you simply bc of 2A?

@@norcal9376I get tired of this argument. The government doesn't want to kill you. They want to infringe on your rights to control you, invade your privacy, pass any invasive law with as little pushback as possible. For example, in places like the UK, if you hurt someone's feelings on Twitter they can come to your house and arrest you. Try that in the U.S., it'd be a death sentence for a lot of law enforcement. And even if they did want to kill us, the government has no interest in destroying their hard built infrastructure, the roads, the power systems, gas, water, and getting rid of their precious taxpayers utility to them. They can't afford to, so they try year after year to take our guns away through laws that are ever more nonsensical and restrictive. That and the military swore and oath to defend their countru from domestic enemies, so them supporting the government in slaying their people wouldn't fly. Citizens have a pretty good chance of winning a war against government. The purpose pf our second amendment is not so the government doesn't murder us, but so they don't infringe on our natural rights and quality of life.

Submachine guns are....machine guns, hence the name. Open bolt designed for fully automatic fire (keyword "designed for" doesn't mean it has to be automatic). The confusion most people have are automatic rifles are not machine guns. The mechanical function is designed for a specific behavior which is what caused the naming. I understand that it is not belt fed heavy barreled full "MG" but the submachine gun is designed for suppression and automatic fire. Its purpose is generally in the same category as a machine gun at shorter ranges, which is opposite of a rifle. I understand that morons use these terms just to make things sound more scary than they are but I would consider a submachine gun to be in the "machine gun" category due to its function. For example its not a rifle, carbine, or musket, and it is not a pistol.

"You have to do something is my point" - Piers Actually no. You don't have to do anything at all. Seriously. The probability of being a victim of a mass shooting is incredibly, incredibly small. You would be better off doing something about heart disease or cancer, it would affect vastly more people. The reason people feel the need to do something about mass shootings is because the media provide an emotional response to it. And because the media have made it political by pushing for mass regulations on guns and punishing good people who enjoy guns. I find it really funny that Democrats complain about people being incarcerated and imprisoned for simple drug possession and usage, but at the same time, are ready to put gun owners in prison, who don't want to hurt nor have hurt anyone, but who don't want to give up their guns. In other words - in prison for gun possession only. And it's not even the same as the drug possession analogy. It's not a perfect analogy. The drugs hurt those people who take them. Whereas I can own a gun my entire life without hurting anyone at all. And yet Democrats are ready to put people in prison for the victimless crime of simply owning one.

@@kristoferboesen5671 Our argument is that the emotional response to a massacre is out of balance with the reality of data of countries that have banned guns and then murdered 10's of millions of their own people. In that light, 20 kids in a school is nothing. Also besides the fear of tyranny, unlike in the UK and other european countries, very large numbers of our population live outside of cities, sprawled very far apart, where response time can be very long and even within some cities 911 services can be 30-45 minutes from responding. Then we have a lot of armed violent crime, annually about 1.75 million burglaries, of which a pretty high % are armed, and a pretty large number result in violence against the residents of the home being burglarized, lots of rapes and torture and everything else that happens to people in those scenarios. So the effect from a nationwide response that decides to ban some specific guns or all guns or whatever, has a different effect on people in the middle of a big city where there's nearly a cop car on every block, than for a woman who lives alone in a rural area, and has a gang of 3 or 4 guys bust into her house, but she's got her one bullet the government allows her to have. In all seriousness, 10 rounds(i think some states in the US have actually instituted a smaller capacity requirement) sounds like a lot until you are fighting for your life against multiple attackers. In the virginia tech shooting the gunman changed magazines MANY times in the course of that spree, 10 round limits wouldn't have done much. Also you had one high profile mass shooting recently that used a .38 revolver hand gun and a shotgun, 2 of the most low profile weapons that even many gun control advocates are supposedly okay with as self defense weapons. There are potentially hundreds of thousands of defensive uses of firearms per year in the usa, and it's hard to estimate how many lives they save vs the ones taken. In my personal opinion it's our cultural rot that is the issue, the shootings are just the symptom, we have a lot of miserable angry people that when they shown signs of mental illness and anti-social behavior they just get rejected from whatever little family or social groups they even have and become complete loners. I mean our culture has gotten so extreme that just having different opinions about politics or voting for one party instead of another can literally get you cast out of every group you belong to, disowned by family and friends, fired from your job, etc. When you create outcasts it becomes a ticking time bomb.

The only time that doesnt hold true is when you have such conversations with people who come with an open mind, without any agenda or overt beliefs about correctness of their propositions, just for the sake of getting to the rational conclusion. Its rare to have such people around you, but when you do, it really makes some extremely fruitful conversations. People always want to be absolutely correct in their observations before they come for a discussion and while that is understandable in an exchange with someone you hold as an adversary, someone you abdolutely want to obliterate, having such notions in friendly environments only works to the detriment of getting to the root of the matter under discussion
