this captures the innocence of longing for a genuine connection with somebody, but it just not being there. sometimes sparks aren’t meant to fly and that’s the only reason why. it takes time to heal and let go. this is absolutely gorgeous.

Agreed, beautifully written song and I like the structure of the music is simple, but the music video is a bit bizarrely produced. Loads of opportunities to show complex emotions in the acting (esp Ben being a great actor) ... one person being head over heels, whilst all you can think about is how to not hurt this person you respect who deserves someone to feel as strongly for them. Instead, it looked like baby Josh Groban had a stomach ache that was annoying him a lot, sometimes whilst in a barn. Anyway, sure it'll be great in person as a simple piano ballad. [internally LOL'ing at me leaving my first KZread comment]

This song is so relatable to me but in a different way. I'm gay and when I was younger I dated one of my best girl friends. Well, since I just said I'm gay you probably know it didn't work out. I was struggling with my sexuality and as the song says "I wanna love you but i don't". Another line that I love is "I think it sucks that you're perfect, cause you're not perfect for me". Everyone thought she was perfect for me, we were best friends and we had very similar hobbies and stuff, I wanted to love her and "be normal" so badly. To me, I think this song is about Ben himself. I think this is about realizing he was gay, and he wasn't in love with his girlfriend and had feelings for another guy. I absolutely love this song and I also think it is a message saying to be you. Remember you are loved

If I'd ever be in a situation of unrequited love and he'd be sending me this song of course I'd be crushed, but at the same time at peace and grateful for the emotional maturity he'd have for explaining to me why he can't love me. The lyrics are beyond beautiful

I feel like my boyfriend relates to the song . When I listened to this song I started crying non-stop i think that it put all his feelings together. He says he does love me And I have never brought what I think he really feels with him ever. Should I send him this song and tell him that I know that he feels this way and like let him go ? I love him alot I don't want him to keep trying to love me just becuz he thinks that I'm worthy of it while he actually can't love me . Idk what to do

@@itsjihaneyeah2509 I don't know your situation but I would look at, why do you think he doesn't love you? do you think you don't deserve his love? Is it your heart talking or your fear talking? Regardless I would focus on making your choices from a place of self love.

This happened to me and someone else pretty recently. The sparks just weren't there. I wanted to love them, but... I didn't. Thanks for showing me that this happens sometimes and it's normal and okay, Ben.

That's exactly why I watched this video, there's someone who I should like and it would be perfect if I liked them but I just don't. This song is helpful in expressing what I'm feeling.

This song is perfect for my mother’s situation. They are going through a divorce and my mom fell out of love with my momma. (Yes I have two moms) so this song is amazing but really sad because of what’s going on

This song is a masterpiece, literally the story of my life in most of the relationships i've been in, i was with them just because i felt like i needed someone, i felt i was alone, or i just trusted them and felt comfortable with them, but i really didn't fall in love except for one time and i always tried to have this feeling again with them, but love just comes like that, it happens or it doesn't, no matter how hard you make it work..

This gives me “if Bob Ross was a popstar” kinda vibe. I LOVE YOU, BEN🥺

This is my new favorite song, I relate so much to it, especially to the "We look good on paper / Until you give us a read". If anyone is feeling like this out there, know that the perfect person for you is waiting out there somewhere, never give up on love. Let go of people if you realize they're not what you need. I love how this song is about not fitting for each other, but not trying to change the partner. It’s so important to let go, instead of forcing something that is not meant to be. Ben sings about it in such a respectful way.

Brings back to my teenage years when I met this guy, he was super super nice, he maybe even fell in love with me over the 3 or 4 dates we went on, but God I felt horrible, I wanted to love him, but I wasn’t even sure I really liked him or just how obsessed he was with me. It was hard to break his heart but I told him before he would have been too deep, that I din’t have the same feelings and it wouldn’t be fair to keep meeting when we see eachother differently.

Yes. A lot of yelling in the high register sells with some people. But it makes for everything sounding the same. His voice is so beautiful--and you hear it when he really sings. Grow as we go, and this one. Amazing.

Many of us have felt that way at some point, this song expresses that desire to tell the truth to that person, that sincere whisper without harming their heart, to say that our love was real but our feelings grew, changed This song is like a hug to understand that we are not the only ones, it helps us to understand and to express ourselves

Here I am, more than a year after this song was released, still obsessed, still dancing, still crying. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I can count the number of days on one hand when I didn't listen to this song (and attempt to sing it RIP my vocal cords) at least once. I just love Ben Platt so much and I feel so blessed to be on the same planet at the same time.

This got me bawling. Made me think of those times I get so lonely and desperate for that "one", I settle and I tried to make it work with every guy I was with even when it wasn't meant to be. This song means self love and self respect to me.

"And I'm not trying to change you" Hits so bad:) My heart is just tearing into pieces...

I saw Ben in concert last year during his Reverie tour. I wasn’t happy that tour date got postponed but I was more happy that it postponed rather then cancel. Because a lot of dares for that tour got canceled because of Covid. Hearing this talented singer live was a fun experience and he sounds amazing live. His vocals will stop impressing me. Because Ben has a good singing voice. Every time I listen to music I start singing along with him. Not only is he a really great singer he’s also a really talented actor.

Ben, the quality of your music is unmatched.

This song, the visuals, his vocals 😭😭 Literally everything is immaculate about this. Chills. Ben is just so incredibly talented

Reverie is my current obsession, I play it 24/7

This song came at the perfect time for me >.__< Thank you so much Ben. We called it quits mutually as he was also not feeling anything and I instead felt so much relief. I reached out to that one love I was thinking in and wow it was immediately there the spark it was like We never left. Caught up and we still found ourselves finishing each other sentences 😅. It was like in a movie. I never believed that you could cry of happiness but I was I was crying so loud and it was such a super nice feeling I hadn't felt before. Time will tell how it will go and how we will fight the distance we have between us. Because that was one of the main reasons we had to split. More of a timing than anything. Honestly taking a long break and then finding each other again its a feeling that just can't be described. I wish everyone to find what you're looking for. Again, thank you for this amazing songs.

I’m in the same position right now, do you have any advice for how to discuss this? My partner loves me but I really don’t even though I want to, and they know we have no connection but I’m just scared, I also don’t want to stop being friends with them

One of the many, many things to cherish about Mr. Platt -- his artistry & vocal chops, clearly at the top of the list -- is how very human his physical presence is. He actually looks like a real person, i.e. NOT spending 4 hours at the gym every day... maybe eating what he wants to etc. Because of this, I find him to be very "relatable".

I just found this song . I was watching Ellen, and he came on and sang this song. I really like his voice. Beautiful. 💞
