Ben Nye, Sr.'s makeup career spans four incredible motion picture decades. As 20th Century Fox Makeup Director, he designed the makeup for over 500 feature films. His creativity forever influenced makeup artistry. He made-up starlets, Alice Faye, Heddy Lamar, Madelene Carrol, Ingrid Bergman, Vivien Leigh, Joan Fontaine, Annabella, Irene Dunn, Mitzie Gaynor, Marilyn Monroe, Mia Farrow, Candice Bergman, and Julie Andrews.
He worked with Hollywood legends Ty Power, Henry Fonda, Don Ameche, Leslie Howard, Lawrence Olivier, Vincent Price, Yul Brynner, Gregory Peck, Rex Harrison, Lee Marvin, Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando, and George C. Scott.
Some of his favorite films include, "Jesse James", "In Old Chicago", "Intermezzo", "Gone With The Wind", "Intermezzo", "The Rose of Washington Square", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", "South Pacific", "Sand Pebbles" "The Flight of the Phoenix", "The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit", "Cleopatra", "The Fly", "Flim Flam Man" and "The Sound of Music". He supervised television hits, Batman, The Green Hornet, Peyton Place, Lost in Space, Daniel Boone, Time Tunnel and more.
His two sons, Ben Nye, Jr. and Dana Nye followed in his footsteps. Each had their own remarkable careers. Dana Nye serves as host. Recorded on the lot at 20th Century Fox in Hollywood. .

What a great legacy. Ben Nye makeup is used by my mum Debbie Muller a professional makeup artist in Australia, she loves the products. She even got to meet Dana Nye on many occasions.

His products are the BEST. ALL are Vegan thus none use animal by-products or animal testing.

i was just about to write the exact same thing! absolutely first-class!
Marilyn Monroe had starring parts prior to Blondes, Niagara, and Don't Bother To Knock to name two. Although Ben Nye is listed on every Monroe FOX film, he never touched her face. She had her own make up man Whitey Snyder, who appears in one of the studo lot pictures in this video, the two men on either side of Nye, Snyder is the one sitting on the counter.

@@mewk7735 he used Ben Nye's products. His products are the ONLY one I'll use. ALL products Vegan so no animal byproducts or animal testing. Ethical products and man.

@@mewk7735 am I sure of what exactly? I'm sure Ben Nye products are Vegan. Ben Nye is an independent and cruelty free company. They do not test their products or ingredients on animals. No third party tests on animals on their behalf and their suppliers do not test on animals. Ben Nye does not sell their makeup to markets that would require animal testing by law, which includes Mainland China.

I always wondered what the face looked like with this name. I always read the credits and saw Mr. Nye's name frequently. This is fantastic ... to see this video about him and his legacy...and to know his sons kept this memory alive along with the growth in this field of art.

Love the Ben Nye makeup…such great quality and affordable prices…wish there were more outlets/online stockist of the full range in Ireland or Europe (EU) though. 🙏👍🏽

Wow this is extremely inspiring and is a big part of history when it comes to makeup and movies I don't feel he had the deserve recognition for his very important role In movie making just think about he actually dream up his craft no textbooks or how to tutorial even makeup wasn't developed yet he actually tested trial and error his family should be produce and should campaign to get better recognition for his contribution he worked on iconic films that will live forever !

Two of my students got to represent Ben Nye here at IMATS a decade ago her in Longon UK very proud moment doing many Make up demonstrations in tht Ben NYE stands for treasure house of Makeup. The makeup is amazing and is my ambition to visit Ben Nye laboratory and training in the states. Fantastic makeup colours products.

Great information on Ben Nye I have been curious about him, his name came up so regular on Gene Tierney Movies, I began to notice it in so many movies.
