Lyrics:
Oh, hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags
I've come to know that memories
Were the best things you ever had
The summer shone, beat down on bony backs
So far from home, where the ocean stood
Down dust and pine cone tracks
Oh, we slept like dogs down by the fire side
Awoke to the fog where all around us
The boom of summertime, yeah
We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang
Just to bless the morning
Oh, hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags
I've come to know the friends around you
Are all you'll always have
Smoke in my lungs, or the echoed stone
Careless and young, free as the birds that fly
With weightless souls now
We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
We stood
Steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang
Just to bless the morning
We grow, grow, steady as the morning, yeah
We grow, grow, older still
How we grow, grow, happy as a new dawn
We grow, grow, older still
How we grow, grow, steady as the flowers
We grow, grow, older still
How we grow, grow, happy as a new dawn
We grow, grow, older still
Ooh, yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Ooh, yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah

Ben Howard is not underrated, he is exactly who he needs to be. Attention in the media kills music and this is so pure it should always stay this way, a little bit hidden. His sound is perfect.

disagree, I don't think attention in the media kills music, but rather often 'kills' the artist. If the whole world stumbled upon Ben Howard's music tomorrow, it would be no worse. And surely, Ben would still be out catching waves doing his thing :D

This song makes me think about life. About all the choices I've made, the good and the bad. It also makes me think about the future, what I'm going to choose and what I will become. This song gives me a mixed feeling of nostalgia, sadness and happiness.

I lost my dad 7 years ago. My mum held onto his ashes and asked that once she is gone that we take them both to their favorite place. It was a beautoful river where they would often go with us kids when we were little. My mother passed away just a few days ago and we decided to grow a tree from our parents ashes. Once we can see the tree is growning strong we will plant it by the Riverside. This is the perfect song for the occasion. It brings memories of the great times we had. It makes us appreciate our friends and loved ones. And the will grow as steady as the flowers as we grow older still. This is exactly what my parents wanted. My mums words ring so true now. Don't cry because we left. Smile and rejoice because we lived!

My brother used to play Ben Howard all day in his bedroom, smoking weed constantly every day, I was always home alone with him yet I was never so far apart from him, he rarely talked to me and I really wish we had a stronger bond, especially now that he's moved far from home and he's got a girl and he's starting his life a new. I don't tell him, but I listen to all of his playlists and think of him constantly. I will always love that foolish man. Always.

I was 15 when I first listened to this song, it has always been my fav song. 27 now and god it still hits the same! The innocence time took some of gets right back! ❤
I believe Ben Howard to be one of those few that are true artists, because more than songs, he crafts emotions. You watch/listen to this song, Keep Your Head Up or These Waters and you can't help but getting happy and willing to live fully. Then you listen to Follaton Wood or Bones and you get fucking sad. Listen to Esmerelda, Black Flies or Oats in The Water and you can grasp the angst, the desperation. And the list goes on...

This song carries me back to my life’s best moments: falling in love for the first time, holding my newborn babies, a beautiful talk with my Grandma just before she passed away. @@benhoward3222 This is the favorite song that I had playing, when I was In a terribly devastating vehicle collision a few years back. I had it on intentionally because I was on the way to a happy time, visiting my son up north and this was just fitting...it was the best, meandering county road on a warm evening with the windows down and this song on to accompany me on the last leg of my journey. In the end, during my recovery and even now this song ended up lending me a lot of strength, and reminding me of what was important. This album ended up being the soundtrack to one of the most difficult, and then one of the strongest, times of my life. Thank you for that.

This morning I sat on a dock in a lake and played this song on my guitar as the sun broke the mountains. I felt so alive, I could feel the air in my lungs and my blood flowing through me. I feel like anything is possible today. It is a perfect remedy for the Covid blues.

I heard this song from serial Netflix " First Love " and I really love this song❤
The first time I showed this song to my little nephew he said to me (after listening less than 30 sec.) “I know why you like this song” Why? (I replied) “Because It makes you feel everything it’s gonna be ok” he said. He was right…

Lot's of love from Nepal brother 🇳🇵🔥
I heard a young boy play this song on the streets with his guitar- i didn’t know who it was by but I finally found it and I’m so relieved and happy that I did. It’s beautiful and makes you feel as if you can keep on living .
It reminds me of how beautiful our world is, and it gives me memories of driving down to the ocean when I was younger. The sense of the calm guitar makes you feel like you’re in an atmosphere of camping by the fire, in a pine tree woods, the sea not too far away, getting up in the morning and surfing, having no worries or cares. It reminds me and you, and everyone that they can live the easy life and that you can always get through any bad stuff. It makes you feel at home. It makes you happy. A song like this is a good song, and I hope that in years to come, I can play this song to my children and live a easy life. I don’t like how music has changed in the past years, from materialised pop songs, to narcissistic rap music about money and fame, including explicit language. But there are some artists that have nice, calm music, and Ben Howard is definitely one of those people. Songs on the radio are stressing. These songs are soothing and happy. And they definitely sooth the soul. :)))

This song makes me think of a poem I once read. Live your life so the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others and their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life , beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long, and of service to your people. When your time comes to die be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death , so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way . sing your death song and die like a hero going home. Written by an Indian war chief named Tecumseh.

I'm watching the jdrama first love right now and hearing this song nearly brought tears to my eyes cos i have listened to this song a thousand times when it came out and i was like 16 at the time i felt so nostalgic , ya'll should check this singer out he has some amazing songs Only love being my fav
Excellent music, touching your heart, blah blah blah, so I will just state the obvious: how cute are you man?! Amazing in any case, adored his music ever since I heard it first time.
I can’t help but smile and think of all the memories I’ve made with my son. Now he is older the adventures get fewer and fewer and I’m sad that those days will never be again.. but memories are definitely the best thing I’ve ever had.

Where has this song been my whole life? I don't know if it's just me but some songs make me feel like I can't even explain. I feel like it should be the theme song to life. The background music to everything. It would be a happy song at a happy moment and a sad song at a sad moment. Nostalgic is how I feel when I listen to this. It's confusing, yet beautiful...

The diversity in music is the reality of ourselves. Music really connects between hearts, stories, feeling, emotions and everything else. This does that well
He is spot on Wish humanity could share such life & positivity!!!!
I walked down the aisle to the start of this song when me and my husband got married ❤️
the simplicity of this man's videos makes his music even more SPECIAL... what a Talented Lad! 4:35 literally makes me smile and cry at the same time
Man, how a song can man so many different things to you throughout different stages of your life. Don't let that go. No matter how much that time of your life can suck, hold on to things like this that help you get through it.
Ben Howard's music has kept me alive ever since my divorce, emotional problems and inability to support a healthy relationship. All the while I have ALL of Ben's Music and "Austin to Boston" to keep me going.

Keep hanging in there. One day at a time.
This man's music is beyond spiritual and his deep lyrics really cut deep with me. It's hard to explain especially when you're drunk. Holla!
First Love anyone? 🥺
This song reminders me of my 4years at Salisbury University. My friends and I would go to the beach to camp and watch rocket launches. If you ever get a chance the eastern shore is stunning
beautiful song.
Awesome song...sentiment....singer...video....I used it on a Facebook post....to go with a feeling I was having after watching "Ground Hog Day". Listen to this song...every AM...along with saying your prayers (to God)...and it will put your day on the right path...(Ben Howard...awesome use of your talent...God's gonna' tell you "well done"...)

Thank you so much I love you ❤️
this song makes me want to change my way of life, drop my work, my city and country and go appreciate the nature
A very special girl showed me his music a few months ago. Honestly, I have yet to know anyone else that knew his music around here and being a musician myself amongst others that says a lot. I only wish there was a way to see her one more time.
