My husband loved Merle so much he name our youngest son Merle.Ben please keep singing your Dad's music.I lost my husband six years ago we played Merle Haggard music at his funeral.Leonard was his favorite song we played it and our four sons and I knew somewhere my husband,and their Daddy was listening.He loved the Hag.I have a cap Merle autograph to him personally.The Day Merle passed away we all cried.My son Michael called and said Daddy's sitting center stage watching Merle tonight.

Oh Lord, it’s like Merle is still with us. ❤

My dad payed country music, he turned me on to the Hag when I was 13yrs old, at 67 the still gives me goosebumps and there are still a few that puts a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. There were times when I would go to a club at 14 or 15 and my dad would put me in a dark corner and tell me to stay put as to not draw attention from the crowds, I could close my eyes and thought I was listening to the Hag! First time I heard Ben I knew he was Merles son, there is no question about it!!! Take the torch Ben and PLEASE keep it lit, you got what it takes!

The Haggard boys are all true progeny of the authentic genius of Country, but Ben, especially has Merle's magic. He makes "The Hag's" guitar come alive as if from days of old, and he's got the chops, the look, the whole package. All he needs is a song that can serve as his vehicle to super-stardom.

Ohh my God. The apple didn't fall from the tree. Ben please keep the legacy going. Country music is becoming Pop music, please I'm begging you to keep this sound alive. I'm telling you it's dying extremely quick. I'm not knocking others for their Pop music but millions of people like me don't want True Country music to fad away. I love Alan Jackson, and a couple others but it's in your hands. God gave you a gift to keep the music going please keep it going. My children think Gretchen and others are Country music, again I'm not knocking them. It's just not Country music. Please millions of people are depending on you to carry out the music. You have a responsibly to yourself and your Pop, don't drop the ball. Sure you're voice isn't your Pop's but Lord have mercy it's sure enough Country music at its best. It's such a treat to hear real country music, the kind that will live forever in the hearts of those who truly know its sound.

Ben sounds like a younger version of Merle. His brother Noel sounds like an older of Merle. Together they are freaking incredible.

In other words, you don't want him to be himself, to sing his own songs and create his own legacy. You just want him to sing songs his dad already sang better than anyone. If you want Merle Haggard songs, then listen to Merle Haggard. If you want Ben Haggard songs, then stop trying to make him be a clone of his dad. Merle's boys are going to vanish without a trace, aqnd be just a footnote in history unless they stop looking at the past and start creating a new future. Hank Williams jr. made this mistake, thanks to his mom, and he lost a lot of years before he stopped singing his dad's songs and started creating new, different, and arguably even better songs.

James Ritchie I agree with you. As much as I enjoy how they are keeping his music alive I would love to hear them do some original stuff. Especially from Ben. He’s astoundingly talented and still young.

Ben, I grew up listening to Merle Haggard. I'm pretty sure he's absolutely always brought to tears every time you sing. You have an undeniable gift as did Merle. If you have songs of your own promote those. But remember to say what you mean and only what you mean. That's what Merle did. He bared his soul in many of those songs that he wrote. They say pain is at the heart of true country song writing. Perhaps it is, but there's also a deeper love and a greater good. Start small and follow through. And don't worry. It'l come. One of my biggest regrets was not getting to see Merle in concert . Him and George are my favorites .

I grew up listening to Merle and still do......I'm glad Ben is singing his Dad's songs, because they represent true country music...period.

He has the soul his dad did without being a copy. Plus this is Merle's best song in my opinion. It's fantastic

I met Richard Leigh a couple of times (he is a Nashville top songwriter) and he said 'some people are touched on the shoulder' ... and this young fellow was... along with good genes for that voice.

Ben is an excellent guitarist in his own right. Merle had a great voice and was an amazing, bold songwriter as well all know. Merle’s voice was key and unique, but Ben’s has the same quality. I think he should go forward as so many didn’t hear Merle in his prime and Ben has brought it all up to date with the way he plays them. Great stuff. KC
