The first time I heard "Brick," I immediately left my apartment, took the subway to the Virgin Megastore, bought the cd and played it on repeat for hours. All these years later, I still love the music from this true artist and once again I'm playing a tune of his over and over. I really wish I could go to the Virgin Megastore right now!

Home boi... i was a piano playin songwriting hopeful when Ben Folds was ascending... when Underground came out i thought, all right, nice, but a little clownish or whatever, he's no Elton. Battle of Who Could Care Less hit and i was thinking principally the same - interesting, but where's the melodic hooks of real pop? then home biscuit drops Brick and it was like - welp, i'm fucked. he can not only do straight pop but he can sink indie-level deep lyrics right over top. fuck. he did it. it was the kind of song you stopped and gave your full attention to if it came on while you were alone in the car.

This guy got me through all the worst parts of my life. Thanks, Ben.

Same here… Ben Folds has got me through a lot of really really horrible times… I credit him for saving my sanity and picking up the pieces of my life when it absolutely imploded… There would be days where I just did not have the strength to push the air out of my mouth to even say what I was feeling, but I could always go find a Ben Folds song and he would say it just the way I needed him to for me. I know that sounds kind of dopey, but it is what it is

I love how Ben equates each kiss to an exhausting jam band solo 😂 and then the genius of tying it in with the jam band/snarky puppy style solo in the middle of the track.

Then folds is coming to my hometown, Wichita, Kansas in August and I am going to this concert! I cannot tell you how excited I am. When I was looking around the Internet to see information about the concert. I discovered a link referencing a new album that was released last June in 2023… I was like whoa, how in the world did I miss this? And then I remembered oh yeah I caught Covid at the end of May and it made June July and August a confusing blur so there we were… Anyway, this song makes me crack up every time I listen to it the visuals are just hilarious. Running past the Cracker Barrel half naked while some dude is live tweeting holy cow! Lol

I sincerely believe that Ben Folds is basically the John Updike of music. The way he weaves stories and experiences into song is strongly reminiscent of Updike's masterful way of describing the banality of shopping in an A&P in a way that evokes strong imagery and incredible storytelling. I always enjoy listening to Ben's music change with the times, although it always has his little signatures twists. Beyond the piano and keys and the as usual on-point percussion he really loves the jazz instruments and I can't knock that. Fresh yet familiar.
