That's what makes these covers fun. The cover by Dynamite Hack for "Boyz N The Hood" was another one that had people thinking it was an original. The recognition for that song came after the release of the Straight outta Compton movie.

This still makes me laugh 20 something years later. 😂

According to his memoir, while opening for John Mayer he would play this song all the way through THREE TIMES with his middle finger up while being flooded with boos 😂😂😂 Most punk thing ever.

When the harmonies kick in at the end it is truly glorious.

3:14 and onwards is magic. That piano bit is glorious. Cool drums, and the "that's some real conversation for yo' ass" is the funniest line of the song.

Honestly, I understand that its not exactly apropriate. But here in Europe we often have a different approach. We dont delete history. We put in a disclaimer, that we see this in different way now. This song actually exists. It WAS made but now we feel differently about it. Like, we dont burn Hitler's book Mein Kampf, we teach kids that it exists, and why its content is not good (not comparing ben to hitler here). Thats much more educational learning from past mistakes, than erasing them. Also we have old kids books with caricatures of black people. We dont delete that either. We teach our kids that we dont do it like that anymore, but we used to. We have grown wiser.

My point, however, is that I day Ben Folds at a college like...10 or 12ish years ago. And, let me just say, that it was *_by far_* hands down, no competition, not even close tied for the best concert I've ever been to (tied for first with Weird Al on the Poodle Hat tour). It was, quite literally, a transcendental, religious experience...
