Belly breathing exercise: Calming the body and mind
Ғылым және технология
Living with a chronic disease can often result in extra stress and anxiety, especially for children. In partnership with Riley Children’s Foundation and Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University School of Medicine clinicians and researchers are pleased to present a video resource to support patients coping with stress. By following the steps presented in the video, viewers will learn how to complete a belly breathing exercise that can be done anywhere at any time. Belly breathing is a great way to calm the body and mind.

I honestly wanna cry with how well this helped, it’s currently 3 am and I was randomly having a sudden burst of anxiety and having an attack. Some push-ups did help a bit but this helped way more

Look around and identify 3 different colors, then ID 3 different objects...also, count backwards or count each exhale up to 10 and keep doing all these 7:43
This was very pleasing. I'm having trouble with anxiety. As I listened and breathed, I became very relaxed, then a thought emerged in my mind..."If they put a jump scare in the middle of this meditation video I'm going to have a heart attack!"

I can't tell you how much this video helps me.
Thank you for creating and posting this video for all of us that struggle in life. We truly appreciate it.
This video has helped me In so many ways as someone dealing with psychosis right now and alot of different Med Changes and have been depressed sleeping all day. Anxiety makes u feel like chest pain and i love this one because its so easy and simple and when u say belly and then say breath it helps so much and the first time ive done this video ive always came back to it so it must help me and my thought process more than i realize.
I was stressed, I could feel muscles in my face twitching. This slow paced video made me want to do something else but I persevered because that was exactly what I needed, I had to slow down, be quiet for 10 minutes and just breathe. It's so simple, yet during the day I didn't realize I was just losing it. I'm still not 100% but I'm for sure better than I was before the video, thank you for this!
Absolutely brilliant, calmed me right down. Thank you
This video helped and liked the pace. I found it helpful to put an object on my belly like a remote and watch it go up and down as I breathed.
Wow. So simple. So effective. Thank you.
After a lot of overthinking my brain finally feeling light and free that was so refreshing... i love the person who made this video thanks a lot ❤
This is very helpful. Thank you for the moderately sllow pace, it was perfect. I have issues with not breathing properly due to chronic stress and GAD, so this will be a great practice.
...AMAZING WAY TO CALM... thank you

It doesn't feel like it is going to pass, it feels like im ignoring it, I have pain everywhere, I'm shakey, sweaty, feel really sick, I don't recognise things and people, I feel like I am in a dream and really really dizzy, I feel like im dying. I've made myself really sick :(
Thank u for taking the time out to wanting to help others feel better about themselves just a little bit doesnt have to be all the way there but it has helped 50/50
Amazing!! This helped me so much and I will be continuing to use in my healing journey.
Thank you for this video
great breathing training, so relaxing, thanks a lot
Very relaxing! Time for bed! Thank you!
Very nice. The voice is soothing and the cues are paced appropriately for a shift to the PNS to occur. I am sharing this with friends and family. Thank you! ❤
Wow, this belly breathing exercise is truly amazing! As someone who has experienced chronic disease, I know how overwhelming stress and anxiety can be. This simple technique has been a game-changer for me in calming my body and mind. Thank you so much for sharing this helpful video, it's incredibly informative and I can't wait to try it out myself!

Ah, so! This is ZEN Meditation!! As an Internist who has practiced Zen and Yoga, I must say: both the breathing in and out MUST be through the nose. It is natural and relaxing. Also, the warm moist air from the lungs is valuable to the sinuses, why waste it?!

^nose breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and repair). Mouth breathing activates the autonomic nervous system (fight/flight). It's just our basic biology 🤷♀️

Is there a difference breathing only through the nose and not exhaling with the mouth?

The important bit as I understand it is to breath in through the nose, you can either breath out through the nose or through the mouth, it doesn't make that much difference.
