Bell UH-1H Iroquois "Huey" US Army 1/72 Italeri Full Build Video | RWO Models

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I am building the iconic Bell UH-1 Iroquois, nicknamed "Huey", in 1/72 scale. The model represents a helicopter of the US Army 116th Assault Helicopter Company "The Hornets" 2nd Flight Platoon "Wasps" flown in Vietnam in 1971.
This is the first build since a couple of months, and I felt I needed a somewhat simple build to get back into the groove. So I had this pretty cheap and basic Huey kit lying around and gave it a go. Just like many other Italeri kits this one has some flaws and errors as well, major issues being the clear parts and the historical accuracy of the decals and build instructions. But in the end I think the model turned out quite nicely.
Let me know what you think of this build. Your comments and opinions are highly appreciated. Please bear in mind I am not a professional modeler, I just build these models for fun and relaxation and to help regain my mental and physical health.
Stay tuned to my channel and don’t miss out on upcoming build videos and more! Please Comment, Like, Share and consider becoming a Subscriber to my channel. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Oliver/RWO

    I built this kit about 3 years for a "Group Build" for the IPMS/USA "Nationals" Contest and see that you also had problems fitting the Clear Parts into the Crew Doors, Sliding Doors, and the Nose Clear Parts as well. On my kit the Clear Parts were too SMALL all around and didn't fit at all. I bought a second kit thinking that it might have been a BAD Mold, but turned out the SAME thing with those Clear Parts as well. The kit is an ESCI molds that came out in the 1980's and is not that BAD, except the Clear Parts. You do have to add "Nose Weights" to prevent it from sitting on it tail, trying to find a place for it was another story...

    Clear parts are really bad on this kit, I have large gaps on the sliding doors as well. Windscreen/nose parts were a nightmare, too. It was so disappointing I almost cancelled the build. As you can see in the video I added a flat piece of lead under the cockpit floor to keep the Huey balanced, worked great. Thanks for watching!

    Good build! You managed to achive a much smoother finish than the majority of youtubers who built Huey versions. Very well done! Saddly, 72nd scale helicopter kits have way too thick clear parts that give a not so nice aspect.

    You did a nice job on this. I have the 1B huey from italeri in this scale and I'm scouring the internet looking for a 1/72 crew for this bird. At this rate, it'll be cheaper just to buy a resin 3d printer 😅 I love 1/72 scale and I display my planes wheels up, in flight. It's impossible to find seated pilots anywhere! Where's all the little dudes, oxygen mask on, goggles down, thumb on the trigger?

    I am breaking my mind between XF-58, XF-62 and XF-74. Was XF-62 recommended in the kit? The paint looks good, it seems more greyish than it really is, due to the white background?

  • @RWOModels

    @RWOModels

    2 жыл бұрын

    The build instructions suggest Model Master 4728 F.S. 37087 "Olive Drab (Flat)". I had XF-62 in my inventory and for my taste it looks pretty good and accurate on the model. I actually wanted it to look a bit faded and therefore applied a pretty strong white marbling layer under the Olive Drab. I also applied multiple layers of XF-86 Flat Clear on top which in my experience often adds a slightly greyish tone to the surface. Thanks for watching!

    Ja, die Vallejo Model Air sind manchmal etwas zickig und untereinander zum Teil auch sehr verschieden. Ich verdünne nach Gefühl, in seltenen Fällen kann das je nach Farbe schon mal auf 50:50 hinauslaufen. Bei feinen Schattierungen oder kleinen Details entsprechend noch einiges mehr. Mit der Zeit sieht man schon beim Anmischen, wann es passt. Ich benutze den Vallejo Airbrush Thinner. Ein, zwei Tropfen Flow Improver helfen auch manchmal. Und die Pistole bzw. Düse und Nadel müssen penibelst sauber sein.

    Hello and apologies for my very slow reply. Clear parts are indeed pretty bad on this kit, however if I remember correctly I just needed to drop the windscreen into place, add a little extra-thin glue and it had a decent fit with only a minimal gap (at least on the kit I built). Most of the other windows were too small though and I just tried to somehow make it look as good as possible. Thanks for watching!

  • @RWOModels

    @RWOModels

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello there, no worries regarding your English, I think it's very good, and BTW it's not my native language either. ☺️ This particular kit has a few fit issues and it can be a bit tricky to fit the cockpit/interior section (which you have to complete first) into the fuselage. The clear parts on this kit are not the best and they are mostly too small. I decided to install them after painting the model, I found it easier this way, but it still is far from being perfect. Maybe your dad has built aircraft models before, then it should certainly be doable for him to build a decent looking Huey. If it's the first model build I think I would recommend to practice on a few smaller, easier airplane model kits first. Hope this helps. Cheers and regards from Germany, RWO
