Bell Ringing at Easebourne, West Sussex

St Mary's Church, Easebourne has a ring of eight bells, cast by a number of founders between 1530 and 1945. Together the bells are a mixed variety of tonal qualities, with the two trebles cast in 1945 by John Taylor and Co, followed by the third in 1926, then the 5th in 1924. The other bells start off with the 4th and 6th in 1876 by Mears and Stainbank, then the tenor which was cast in 1677 by William I Eldridge and the 7th which is a listed bell, cast in 1530 by John White. Together the bells form an okay sounding eight, but really to me they were a bit bland sounding and didn't really make my hairs stand up either! A better version of an eight similar to these would be Cobham as they are actually half decent! That said, they are alright once gotten used to!
The Bells here go quite nicely, but the long ropes aren't a beneficial factor of the go either! It's just annoying how flappy the ropes are, I lost concentration a few times because of it! Here's some clips of what we got up to on these interesting bells!

Yes! I'll be honest, the older bells spoil these and overall they sound quite bland.

@@RingerLuca651 Fair enough. The two things that just made me wonder where, the fact that the 6 at Milland from memory are similar to the back 6 at Easebourne and probably a similar note?. Also, Harry was ringing no 6 of the 8, and again as no 4 of 6, but I was able to see spare ropes one video, and a ladder in the other. Perspectives eh?

@@markanthony7184 He was ringing the 5th in the first clip, and 6th in the second clip (4th of 6). You seem to have a bit of local knowledge, have you rung much in the area? Milland are a little deeper in pitch than Easebourne, and the ringing room is a lot smaller, but other than that they're fairly similar.

@@francescogreenslade7793 Ah ok, that would explain it, thank you Francesco! I used to live in Liss until about 20 years ago and that was my home tower. As circumstance went though, I only rang at Easbourne once, and Milland three times, the latter two times were for a peal and a quarter peal. You fellows are predominantly Sussex ringers aren't you?.
You can't say the best ring in easebourne, as my servants bells are better!

The tenor is awful, a modern replacement would make these really quite good.

Oh yes! It's a bathtub on it's own and it's as dead as a dodo. A Taylor bell would be excellent!
