I love your channels, but I strongly disagree. I have two malinois...male and female from two different breeders and they make great family companions.. they are also the most affectionate breed of dog we've ever had. I believe, yes, you can breed for working lines....which my two were...but they also adapt to their everyday environment. My two have both been through professional obedience training in a board and train for a few weeks. ...so I agree professional training is a must. We also have a cat and they are the sweetest with her. I think we should stop putting every Malinois under the same umbrella...they are all different. Time and attention, which I give them 24/7 (work from home) is the most important thing above even exercise/activity with consistent boundaries/structure and routine.

Totally agree. I have 9month old Malinois and she is super affectionate. Highly intelligent yes, need a lot of exercise both physically and mentally yes BUT if trained correctly, brilliant family dogs. She loves my other dogs, loves the kitten, so gentle with children. I think 1 big thing to do is train your Malinois how to bark on command and therefore how to “quiet”. Be assertive in the discipline and always plenty of affection. I also find squeaky toys are more engaging than great treats

I hope, they keep the strict breeding as working/sports line. It saddens me what happened with companion-optimized breeding to some other classic working breeds. However: handlers like you, that take on professional training for a time, offer consistently activities, structure, routines and exercise are not meant, I think. For them they very well may be the perfect family dog. Who is meant, is people who believe these working dogs are suited and happy with training, structure, and exercise like an average companion dog. Too many people think that if they can fulfill the needs of a Labrador, they can for a Malinois. Or hunting-line Weimaraner. Or other purpose breeds with intense work drive. That's why such warnings, so people think three times are good.

I have a 5 years old female malinois of exceptional size and weight. It is the second malinois I have the joy to own. Whilst malinois are indeed some of the most energetic dog breed and will frequently test your authority, your description is inaccurate. To me it seems your description actually matches a poorly trained and educated malinois. A malinois likes to bite, and any good malinois owner knows that from the very earliest age, you must sit down with your puppy, let him/'her bite (gnaw is more accurate) you and make high pitched sound every time he/she hurts you to teach him/her to know his/her strength. If you don't, then your malinois will always bite full force no matter what and will likely severely injure someone even if highly trained. Malinois dislike moving things and will attempt to lock moving animals and objects into place. That part is indeed correct. However I have yet to see a well educated malinois (which again, really isn't what you describe) bite a moving target. Usually they tend to round the target and corner it. Which is... well how herding works. I am not a professional dog breeder. My malinois is so gentle that I can put raw food between my lips, approach my face from her and she will gently take the food without even touching my lips. This is a well educated malinois. You need to teach your malinois how to gauge his/her strength. If you only focus on behaviour, you are setting yourself up for a disaster. I have no doubt that you are an excellent professional dog trainer. However malinois require a very specific knowledge and can absolutely not be approached by an all-rounder average dog trainer. My malinois broke two all-rounder trainers that just quit on her tell us she was crazy. She is just a malinois and thus is extremely sensitive and needs to have her space respected. A malinois is extremely loyal and protective. I recently rescued two very small kittens (2 months old). She was very curious and wanted to play with them like a huge brute at first. Then she settled down and never, ever hurt them. When the two cats starts fighting, she watches, but the moment one start meowing in pain, she rushes to separate them. Never, ever biting. She makes the biting motion, but she never bites. To this day, she stills needs to do biting sessions where she will gnaw my arms for some time. She is fully grown and extremely large for her breed and she still never, ever hurts me when she gnaws me. Ever. Every single malinois owner in the comment is pointing out that your video is vastly exaggerated and I hate to be one of them. I think you may have been vaguely taught about malinois, but I sincerely doubt that you owned, trained and educated malinois.

Just about a week ago I started make interest about this type of dog, and seems like a real love in first sight. I was planning to buy one within a year, but no my dream is gone. Sad, but I guess this is for the best, because I don’t want to risk it for single moment to put my wife or my daughter into a risk. I honestly believe all dogs can be different and can be thought different way, but I guess it will be the best if I let this go. But I need to mention I never wanted this dog as a house pet, more like a hobby and a life changer to me, but if the risk is seems like so high my this dog may going to challenge and hurt my family I could never forgive myself.😢
