A giant bonfire in the middle of heavily populated structures? That’s just plain stupid. That’s NOT safe. I don’t care why you would want it; only why such recklessness is ill-advised. Find a better location, or don’t do it at all, whatever “it” is you’re trying to do

Robert Kelly They’re idiots. And I hear Britain has the same sort of problems with fireworks as America does, terrorizing & traumatizing everyone’s pets with their foolishness. I’ve spent every 4th of July for over a decade babysitting my dogs & horses, fireworks going off all around us

I agree with your sentiment but their are few places to put one in the area an area by the way that had many innocent people interned at long kesh concentration camp which these bonfires commemorate

Obviously it was a tactical retreat. They balanced up whether staying and trying to stop the bonfire or leaving and letting them get on with it was the best move for public order. They chose the latter. The bonfire went ahead and the same people who were fighting the police earlier in the day turned on each other later that night and a man was stabbed to death and others injured. Leave them too it - its their estate if they want to trash it then let them but don't waste taxpayers money fixing it up afterwards.
