Being "PASS FIRST" in NBA 2K is NOTHING BUT AN EXCUSE! NBA 2K24 Random Rec Gameplay

Ойындар

By no means am I encouraging ball hogging or being a shot chucker, but I believe that MOST players who say they are "pass first" are simply using the term as an excuse for not being competent scorers. Players who deem themselves pass first are simply trying to relieve themselves of any scoring responsibilities. I love passing as much as anyone, but realistically, as a point guard in 2K... you have to be able to score FIRST. Just look at the NBA and tell me how many "pass first" point guards there are these days. It is an archaic archetype and ideology.

Any PG that can actually create their own shot consistently knows it puts pressure on the D and opens up the offense. The narrative is that ppl hate “ball hogging PGs” but in my experience if your teammates see u know what youre doing & you’re willing to make passes they will let u rock & fall in line.

I'm definitely pass first because I have a knack for reading defenses and making a couple reads, but that's so I can get my teammates going and show that you can't just leave them without being punished. Establishing that I can make those reads makes it easier for me to get mine later in the game because I'll get less coverage due to establishing that vision. My only problem is I need to find a balance between the audacious passes and aggressive scoring

  • @jacobwilkie241

@@Spawn3582 That's really my game. I always am reading defenses first and my game comes off the defense a team runs. If it's just man on man, likely, I'll have to attack, someone will help and I kick to the shooter. If someone has a mismatch, I give to the mismatch. If I see someone sagging off, I find the open man. It's really not much of scoring unless a team ins playing really tight. Cause some games, I come out with like 4 points or something but 15 assists and we win by 20 due to my teammates getting easy looks off me. That's what reading defense PG's do and it's so effective. You don't need to be score first. You just need to be able to score when you are open

I’m pass first because I find it more fun than scoring. Magic is one of my favourite players because of his passing. I’d rather have 20 assists than score 40 but I CAN score. In rec I average 20 on 70% fg. If I’m playing with a team that’s incapable of anything offensively, I’ll go get my buckets. I played 3 rec games today and went 43/45 across the 3 games because no ones used to guarding the midrange and someone with really high layup. I’m definitely not scared to shoot, I just find passing fun.

I used to have that problem in 2k21 but what I realize is that if you are an above average player you HAVE to take over after a while. The easiest way is by giving everybody the ball at the start and only take a shot if you are WIDE open. Once everybody start missing they will feel more comfortable letting you take over. It’s a mind game with the randoms.

The title says it all, “Being "PASS FIRST" in NBA 2K is NOTHING BUT AN EXCUSE!,” as there is nothing more frustrating than playing with a gun shy PG that believes you can run that position as a player in the background. “I just like to get others involved” is a cop out for lack of stick skill or lack of confidence. It doesn’t do your team any good if your man knows you aren’t an offensive threat in the half-court. To me, these types just want to feel like they’re contributing while touching the ball a lot, but in reality, they have very little to do with winning and usually a lot to do with getting blown out (and getting a good teammate double teamed).

You're right. I used to say I was pass first, but really I'm just unselfish and try to make good reads for my team. It's all situational for sure. If someone is open I'll get it to them, but until then you gotta try and break down the defense and get your team opportunities. If a bucket presents itself you gotta take it. The point guards gravity is a big part of getting the defense out of position. It also depends who you are playing with. If I have 3 scorers around me it's going to be even easier to get buckets and assists. You gotta be a threat to score or you're easy to guard.

I just understand that other people want to enjoy the game too and just don’t want to watch me be the star every single game. Keep in mind I do not play with randoms though, so I know my teammates are capable. Don’t get it twisted though. If I need to take over, I will gladly do so. Random rec is a different story because you get teammates that are so incompetent that being pass first is like asking to lose the game depending on the teammates you get. I feel what you’re saying, though. I have about 10 builds and one of them has a 99 pass accuracy. I swear I will dot dudes and they will still brick. I also completely agree with what you said about what happens if you get slotted at the two. If they slot me there I’m dropping 30. No questions asked.

The term pass first is really just a concept. I consider myself a pass first player because more times than not, I'm passing more than I am scoring cause that's my game. I'm not much of a guy that thinks that I can do everything on the offensive end. I'm not the best dribbler in the world, I hate taking moving 3's and I'm not the most gifted finisher in the world. But I have been practicing all those skills, mostly in MyTeam against All Star or Superstar difficulty which Rec is. It's made me much more of a scorer but I always think to pass first because 9 times out of 10, when I attack, which I do often, someone is coming to help and someone is open.

Everytime you pass and it’s a turnover and they get mad you passed it you can never win with these low IQ people. Had a center last night who said “guard your man” in a 5v5 I’m chasing him all over the court eventually he’s going to score against my low defense build however if I shade him to help and no one helps is it really my fault? Eventually he starts getting blocks and we win the game… crazy right? I swear I always lose because of a bum ass center it never fails.

I believe being a “pass-first” PG in random Rec is stupid. I’ve only played solo dolo three times this 2K and trying to feed bums was driving me insane. Luckily I run with at least 3 friends every time, so yes I’m a pass-first PG. I make sure to let my guys eat and then I start cooking. I’m a reliable 20 and 20 for my boys, but if I need to score in order for us to win that not an issue.

At this point, I just spend the entire first half passing the ball because you can't win with randoms. I score first and after 3 or 4 straight makes, I get a timeout spammed and immediately someone coming on the mic spewing ignorance about how they didn't buy the game to watch me. Then I try to pass first and they miss 5 straight corner 3s and they don't take the open lane. It's really just a hope endeavor.

Hmmm how do I put this I don’t agree with the take but I understand were your coming from especially with rec randoms trust me I hear you and as a really elite passer/scorer I believe that the best thing u can do is find a balance the more you don’t pass the easier the defense job is and also the more your teams morale (especially considering randoms) drops which equals whining trolling etc so u have to keep defenses honest which one opens up oppritunitys to score more for you and also allows your teammates to get going again Ik it’s random rec so logic does go out of the window sometimes but that’s just basketball also just making the right play if u have a good look or can create one take it but if a guy from the wing corner etc is being too helpful I’m dotting him until he respects it

I look at a pass first pg as someone who starts the ball movement. And the whole team should be willing to move the ball. I look to draw players to me and facilitate an OPEN basket. Now if the lane opens im not stupid... but im looking to get the defense out of position. Having high dribble and passing. Thats a pass first pg to me. If i keep breaking the D down and nobody helps then im dropping 100 lol.. but what i aint gonna do is stand at the top and hold the ball 15 seconds...

I swear we played a 5 out guard in squad Rec and he had a full 5 with 98 pass accuracy on his build. We literally said screw it everyone stay home and force the PG to score and man… that pass first PG was cooked. Even in random Rec most people will find out someone is pass first and play off of that.

  • @OnlyFloor
    @OnlyFloor3 ай бұрын

being pass first can be situational, it can also be preference. specifically for guys like you who used to prioritize passing & defense ONLY in past 2Ks you know how frustrating it is to strictly be pass first being in challenging situations. for someone like myself who avg 16 & 8 w/randoms there are games I choose to go w/o a shot attempt for the benefit of the team up until that clock hits 0:00 prioritizing the win, unfortunately everyone can't be a combo guard and that's okay as long as you know your limitations.
