Being Fearless | Jane Fonda on Street You Grew Up On
Ойын-сауық
On this week’s episode of Street You Grew Up On, Kerry is joined by actress, activist and all around icon, Jane Fonda. The two go back to Jane’s childhood home in California, on Tigertail Road, where she was raised in a beautiful Dutch farmhouse during a time when the world was at odds. Despite growing up hearing the sounds of WW2 air raid sirens, and at the height of racism, Jane still had glimmers of light of fond childhood memories. She shares with us moments of listening to Nat King Cole with her father, going to the beach with her brother, and funny Christmas memories involving spiked eggnog and Jimmy Stewart falling on a tree. Jane’s legacy of fighting for social and environmental justice comes as no surprise given the values and interests she developed from an early age.

I had NO IDEA that Kerry Washington had a whole interview show on YT. Why isn’t this being advertised!

Glad i was introduced to it today too.
There is a light, a brilliance, and a divine presence in all that Kerry does. Her guests, like the admirable Jane Fonda, are able to reveal and illuminate their beginnings (their origin stories) in such a way that brings such humanity and beauty to the act of remembering our childhoods. The tool of connection and belonging always begins with a telling of the places that we grew up on. Our story telling of that establishes the covenant of our shared humanity. I’m grateful for Kerry offering these wonderful glimpses into the people we love, and teaching us how simple it can be to connect to others, no matter who. ❤❤❤

Wow! I was in awe and in tears listening to Ms. Jane Fonda. What an Icon. She has lived such an incredible life and what life experiences she has encountered. Listening to her was like reading a great book where I didn't want to put it down. The life she has lived is so intriguing 🤔. Jane is an exceptional woman and human being, and this world 🌎 is better because she is here. I love Ms. Jane Fonda, you're an inspiration.
My two favorite people. This is so good Kerry. I wish it was even longer. Ms. Jane has so many stories I can just listen to her talk for hours. Kerry you should turn this into a talk show. Love you both.
Jane looks GORGEOUS, her hair is everything

It’s truly the hair for me
I have always enjoyed The Street You Grew Up On and have never missed one. It was amazing to hear Jane Fonda share what the world was like when she was a child. Some things about WW11 I had read about. To hear someone who lived it share those experiences is much appreciated. Thank you Kerry and thanks to Jane Fonda
This was my favorite episode. I adore and admire Jane Fonda. Loved hearing her story of resilience. Now I ❤her even more. Keep up the good work Kerri
What an illuminating interview. Love Jane and Kerry.
Jane is amazing human being and I love her honesty about how she got there from her dad.

She is NOT an amazing human being, she got hundreds of American POWs killed in Vietnam, please look up "Hanoi Jane" and you'll see the things she did
If only I could met Ms Jane Fonda, I would hold her and speak to the child she once was and say “thank you for not giving up because of your resilience you gave the world an amazing Jane Fonda!” 😭❤️
Jane Fonda has so many admirable qualities. She’s a real one!
Thank you Jane Fonda, what an amazing, heartfelt, and inspiring and informative interview. Having Jane Fonda say that racism was taught in the home, and it's up to the parents and/or grandparents to teach humanity to their children, needed to be said. Thank you Henry Fonda for instilling that in your children, in spite of what was shown to you. SALUTE!
I really love Jane. She's truly an inspiration for all of us. I admire the way she keeps up the fight for progress and the fight to save our planet. It helps to never give up
THIS!!! Two of my favorite humans, Kerry and Jane.. I appreciate the transparency and humanity you both exude. If our purpose is to inspire as beings, you both do that in everything you do. Thank you so much for asking Jane Fonda, one of my greatest role models to be on this incredible show. She and my Mother lived very similar lives in a time that everyone should know, understand and learn from. Tears of pain, joy and light are falling and that is what we are here for. To feel, to live, to know, to learn and especially to love. Thank you both!
You may chooose to call you Jane instead of Lady, but you are a real lady, thank you ms. Fonda!
I adore Jane, this video is perfect , thank you all for doing it with so much love, care and respect❤
Lovely conversation with Jane and Kerry!
Wow Kerry, you are doing so much more than interviewing. You are holding court in the space of American History. I feel like I'm sitting in Amer Hist class watching this. Bravo, Sis.
Obsessed with Jane and always will be
This was a beautiful interview! I love the format of talking about childhoods and growing up.. its a unique way to interview that prompts stories and memories and insight to the interview subject that you don't get in the normal format! As well as Kerry having such a sweet and genuine vibe that you can tell makes the guests feel very comfortable and loved and appreciated and heard. I have always loved Mrs. Fonda and this is probably my favorite interview of many I've watched of her! I only wish it had been longer!
i LOVE to hear jane speaking. the story about the call from martin luther king's daughter and the speech&film analogy made my whole body shiver. great interview!!
Kerry Washington! You are sat in front of an all time LEGEND!! You are not meeting a Nixon! But a fucking LEGEND!! Jane FONDA 🫶🏾
I love Jane Fonda... she's such a genuine person!
This is the conversation I wish I could have with my grandmother. She was born in 1923. She babysat me when I was young and I have very fond memories of her even thoughshe passed when i was around 4 or 5. Through my mom I know a little of her history but a tiny amount...she didn't talk much to her children about her experiences, life, feelings, ideas or anythingfor that matter.... I always say... If she was around now I would make her talk lol she would tell me all the tea
Jane Fonda is such an amazing woman. Shes fought for so many people for so long without waivering. I wish there were more Jane Fondas in the world xx
Wow! Just Wow Kerry and Jane. I love that you told people to get her memoir, "My Life So Far!" I read when it came out and I was blown away by her candor, not only by her story of recovery, as I face the same issue, but that she was able to see her patterns with men. Jane is such a gift to all of us and, Kerry, you are as well. Thank you so much for doing this show. You have such a gift for asking great questions that just flow wherever the conversation takes you. I am hooked on these episodes!
LOVED IT.

Very nice interview, very raw and sincere.
Thanks to Indisputable for brining me here but thank you to Kerry Washington for this amazing interview of a legend who has been an inspiration since I was a child. Jane Fonda is the real deal and her frankness in telling her history is refreshing.
This interview was everything.

People forget our elders got the best of the land but also experienced new changes most their lives. I've always liked how real she is, a true American for sure but used her platform for good, I miss Grace and Frankie.
Great stories
Very touching episode!
I was so engaged into this interview!! 💯❤️
This is the first thing I watched after I woke this morning. Jane Fonda, what a wonderful human being ❤. I ended this video in tears. Thank you both for such an enlightening interview. What a wonderful way to start my day.

two queens!! 👸
I've ALWAYS loved the Fonda's, Always. On Golden Pond was so inspiring to me and to hear that story of her father Henry slapping her into a wake-up stirred something up, and also reminded me of how great of an actor and teacher he was
This was brilliant! Thx
The interviewer is so sweet and childlike listening to Jane Fonda! Don’t ever loose that no matter how old you get👍Love to listen to Jane Fonda’s stories. The younger generation could learn a lot from seniors. The fine art of conversation.Get off social media and have a good conversation in real life with another flesh and blood human being!Great talk👍

To call a renowned actress "The interviewer" is so condescending and out of touch. Kerry Washington was on one of the biggest TV shows called Scandal. And stop telling young people what to do, Boomer. Your generation f**ked everything up for the rest of us
Love this woman who do a good job for people. Make me cry a bit when she talk about her father tells her about black people. Thank for be icon.
What a wonderful interview 👏🏽
This is so lovely❤️🔥
Still such a sharp mind- and a real survivor.
This was just Beautiful 🥰
Funny how Jane Fonda and Tony Goldwyn grew up on the same street and both are friends with Kerry
What great memories! WOW “Jimmy Stewart went on the roof as Santa Claus and said “Ho Ho Ho” wow
Kerry cut Jane off so much jumped in way too much to finish her sentences please let your guests finish their thoughts. Not what you think they’re going to say.. hard to finish but so interesting to hear Jane’s life story

My mom was also bp and now my husband of 14 years also has bp it’s so hard it steals every bit of happiness out of the home it’s a shame that feeling of “they don’t love me “ I understand Jane completely I wonder if her dad ever walked away !❤
Jane Fonda is such an inspo
Excellent!
Love Jane and Miss Washington
in tony goldwyn's episode, he said he lives in tigertail road too
I am moved❤

Early America!!
I think we may be related. My grandmother (RIP) was Lois Jean Elliott from Bull Savanah Jamaica St Elizabeth. She told me that she remembered playing with her cousin Colin Powell as a child. I am closely related to the Elliotts, Powells, Gordons, Simpsons, Sinclairs, Senior, Greene, Holness and many more who married into the Elliott family. We are related to Maxi (Elliott) Priest, the Late great reggae singer Jacob (Elliott) Miller Fred Locks, Heavy D (RIP) , and Busta Rymes (His mother is a Greene) may also be related to us. LOL. We have Huge family from Jamaica on my mothers side. Your mother looks exactly like the women on my mothers side from there. So many famous people in our family and especially music artists.
WHY HAVE I NOT SEEN THAT KERRY HAS A SHOW? YES, I LOVE JENNIFER HUDSON, & DREW BARRYMORE BUT KERRY SHOULD'VE BEEN POPPIN UP IN MY FEED ALSO💅🏾
❤️❤️❤️
Oh my fucking heart 😢
Never forget what Hanoi Jane did to the American POWs during the Vietnam war!
it wounds like Hnery Fonda and Jimmy Stewart had a closeted romantic relationship. Happens a lot between actors in those days
Kerri Washington can do GD anything
Completely was taken aback when Kerry asked for her "porn name". Whatever that means. This is my first time on this podcast btw so not a great first impression.

Hanoi Jane!!!!!!! Dont forget, the Pow's Trader!!!!!!😮
As much as I like Kerry she’s a poor listener 😮 Too many oohs and aahs … missed opportunities to deepen connection with Jane who freely shared…especially about her mentally ill mother, growing up in a quiet dark home, etc
I love Jane Fonda. I love Kerry too and I'm sorry to say this interview style kinda annoyed me...that juvenile patronizing, oohing, ahhing and waaaaw. It's like watching someone trying to talk to a child. Look I really like Kerry Washington but asking questions like why someone would eat canned fruit and interrupting while repeating what Jane is saying, to me at least, seems insincere and fake. Jane is an icon and a great story teller, I think it's ok to just let her speak without interjecting. The only time Kerry got quiet was after the story about the N word, then she stopped being Pollyanna and started being more genuine. It's sad to see Jane's labored breathing... I really hope she's ok. Anyway I apologize to Kerry if I was so scathing but the Drew Barrymore Show already exists and her show is cringe AF so I just hope as an audience we can be offered interviews a little deeper and mature in general. I love you with Jane and Kerry.
Finally, what everyone who came from Undisputed her story about her Dad "Henry Fonda" giving her a Smack for using the N-Word at 19:30. I would have loved to hear her thought's on the Descendants of Chattel Slavery getting reparations.
I'm terrified of my stolen eggs going to that bastard! tp. 🤢
Washington is I’m sure a great actress but not so much as a conversationalist interviewer. So many missed opportunities in this sit down intimate talk.
What did Jane Fonda do in Vietnam... 😒
