Being Distracted Wastes Your Potential, Do This To Sharpen Your Mind & Become Limitless | Jim Kwik

Jim Kwik, Bestselling Author and #1 Brain Coach shares an effective guide in helping us transcend limits and unlock our brain’s full potential. At a young age, Jim adopted the identity of having a 'broken brain' after a traumatic brain injury damped his ability to learn. In this episode he shares the mindset and tools that helped him to overcome this label and become a master of his mind.
He and André discuss simple hacks to harnessing your attention and improving your memory, revealing the information essential to learning faster and expanding your mental capabilities.
They also discuss the mindset essential to having a fulfilling life: Jim explains that the reason most people are burned out is not because they are doing too much, but because they're not doing enough of what they love. He shares how he personally created a life of alignment, joy, and fulfillment from the inside out.

Thank you for the wealth of information and how to apply it to a creative but far too busy mind as I have always seen dozens of possibilities at once and then don't know in which direction to turn. I felt such a resonance to your story, only I didn't have the excuse of hitting my head. Being highly creative and a visionary I could see life playing out and into people and their feelings, and my heart ached for many, but I also felt stupid because vision nor creativity was honored in my schooling. Struggle is what I remember about school and what a waste of time it was--although I did have lots of fun with friends from Jr High on. Thank you for the visionary tools and I will look into and apply as much of your 'work' gifts as I can. I came up a Dolphin. (In Human Design I am a Splenic Projector 5/1) I have run companies and gave that up because of the male dominance at the time and they had no issues with stealing my ideas, visions, and presenting them as their own. I ran my own businesses in interior and landscape design, but now I am at a strange space at almost 70 and the world doesn't seem to value life experience. It is OK as I know life is in cycles and I have incredible trust in perfect timing and I still hold a vision close to my heart that could change communities forever. Blessings Jim and heart filled gratitude.

I have spent most of my life distracted. I unfortunately had to lose my family to ask myself the serious heartfelt questions. What is most important? What is the priority now? Question each reason and thought and ask if the narrative is limiting or freeing you. In each moment, check in and ask your ❤️‍🔥, not your mind, is this what I need to be doing right now. Overtime you will literally feel energetically the truth. May ALL beings reach their highest potential. 🕊️

4:24 I was young when my rolled our truck 3 times into a ditch. I was airlifted to a hospital. I was sleeping when it rolled and hit my head hard on the dash. gave me two black eyes. I was just entering preschool. For many years of my life this was a major roadblock. To my recollolection in seemed like PTSD. I would have mograines and couldnt concentrate in class. My grades got so bad they hired a counselor who literally tried to tell me my issues stemmed from my parents being split up. which was a little of it I'm sure but he made it the primary focus. I didnt start really reading till I was 13 years old when I decided to move in with my dad. Im now 38 years old and can say my knowledge seems to surpass the average individual. The issue often for me now is knowing what to do with it once I have it besides just obsessing over it.

I disagree with Jim‘s opinion of the value of taking notes. Personally, I went to nine different colleges and switched majors a lot, so it took me a while to graduate, which was no problem because I was switching majors to subjects and fields I was interested in and wanted to explore and after a year or two I had had enough of that and wanted to switch again 😅 finally in my last college I could design my own major according to my passions and take classes and do research based on that major, so I was very interested in all my classes, reading and related research. During classes/lectures I realized that I didn’t need to take notes because I was so intensely interested I was going to retain it - at the same time I discovered how distracting the taking of notes had been in the past. So now I was sitting in the lecture and absorbing everything, soaking it up and making connections because of my intense personal interest because I had chosen the classes from my deep passions! I also realized that the taking of notes distracted me from listening to previous lessons and lectures because I had been taking notes - Not just soaking it up!

I think when I began this spiritual awakening I was always seeking that 1 video, 1 book, 1 article that made me go "OHHHHHHHhhhh I GET IT", but you've shown me that it just doesn't work that way. The school system as we know it - basically across the World - is based on military training techniques, learned from the Prussian Army - and implemented in the US initially. Cue - all forward-facing, the 'authority' figure at the front, 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮. It's not a coincidence. Further - it's very openly-stated purpose was to 'create a nation of workers - not thinkers'. If a child is 'struggling' at school - it's because they have a level of creativity which simply will not permit the curtailing of their true creative potential. Many (most?) of the true creative movers & shakers of our World did _not_ get on well at school. 'The other kids' have either had their creativity hammered out of them by the age of 5 to 7 - or have learned how to park it, and learned how to navigate the nonsense of the school system. I went to a British private school - and all exam-time boiled down to pulling out the last 10 years of examinations, applying pattern-analysis - and pretty accurately predicting which exact questions/areas will come up in a given year (this was for GCSEs and A-Levels too). The kids good at school get on with 'exams' & gaming the system - that's all.

Thank you, Jim. Your thirst for self-discovery through self-awareness is infectious. It is so easy to turn away from ‘yourself’. A couple of resources that your perceptions triggered for me was polyvagal theory (Steven Porges work) and Gabor Mate’s work on compassionate inquiry. Steven, a neuroscientist, recently authored ‘Polyvagal World’ with his son, Seth, a film maker, a non neuroscientist, who helps to ground the theory. I believe you would find this very interesting. I too had considerable uncertainty as a child, growing up in an ‘unsafe’ emotional deprived environment, which affected my childhood learning capability. Safety is central to effective learning as children and beyond. Gabor Mate’s brilliant work on childhood trauma and impact on us as adults are captured in his books; most recently, also co-authored with a non health professional son (to ground the ideas), is titled (The Myth of Normal. Trauma, Health and Healing in a Toxic Culture’. These have been exceptional resources that have assisted my ongoing growth. Professor-Elizabeth

My cousins once handed me a crystal and suddenly nobody could see me. This crystal gave me the power of invisibility. A part of me knew they were simply playing with me but another part of me held on to that magic. When I got to highschool and was desperately depressed I went back to my grandma's and searched everywhere for that crystal. I craved the ability to be invisible as I once had. I could not find it anywhere, and I felt distraught. Now as an adult I have many crystals with magical powers. None of which grqnt me invisibility but I use all these others to help me feel authentic so I can truly be seen. Such a beautiful shift to heal and find the things we most wanted to escape were pointing the direction to our most prominent actions to heal ourselves.

What a fantastic podcast! Meeting Jim here for the first time feels like a true honor. I started watching this podcast last night and I swear something happened to my left brain. While I write this I am feeling so much gratitude. Bless your heart, Jim, your family, relatives, and ancestors. Thank you, Andre, for the commitment to the service. Un abrazo

Isn't it about recallling not memory? I mean hypnosis teachs us that within us, weather it be we physical or our consciousness/Spirit, is a record of everything we've experienced. Down to a faint odor we hardly noticed when a given event transpired. So recall ??

I’m a cheetah! I’m an acupuncturist with my own office. Yes, I’m going from patient to patient and am doing a lot of right and left brained multitasking. I work with herbs and give nutritional and lifestyle advice. I also do my own billing and much of the work of managing the practice. There is also another acupuncturist working on my office now. There is a lot to keep track of and I recently hired an office manager for the first time. I think I also have a lot of elephant qualities but my cheetah-ness serves me well, or else my schedule of patient appointments would always fall apart.
