Being around Safe people after childhood trauma- effects- our nervous system before& during rewiring

We decided to share one of our conversations about how much our life has changed since going to an addiction recovery establishment and getting daily practice rewiring our brain and nervous system for connection instead of the way it was wire for protection during childhood.
For the last 8 months we have been learning so much from groups that help teach us how to cope with addiction, how to challenge and change our beliefs, how to rewire our brain, how to change our thoughts, how to regulate our emotions and how to use skills like mindfulness and CBT and a lot more in real life every day recovery.
We've been able to practice applying these skills in real time in a safe community space, with a lot of support. We are grateful beyond words for this experience and how vastly it is helping us. And we want the things we learn, wherever possible, to be able to help others as well.
One reason for wanting to share this is because its a massive difference and we're so proud of all of us for the insane, daily, consistent hard work it has taken and continues to take to achieve. And we want to acknowledge and celebrate that.
Another is because healing/recovery from the effects of childhood trauma is possible, building a new way to interpret and interact with the world around us and others is possible. And if we can do it, it shows it can be done for anyone else who may feel as hopeless about such a seemingly impossible goal as we did some short months ago.
One more is because there is such a misunderstanding of what being a system can be like and a lot of the time the day to day moments of chill conversation between people in a system who have worked hard to build internal connection and lower the amnesiac barriers between each other really isn't publicised or understood, and we believe those who are new to finding out they're part of a system could benefit a lot from knowing how life as a system could look.
