This was very useful. We have just purchased one for our church, and really appreciate both of your viewpoints - from a knowledgeable perspective and also using the board in a live scenario. Much better than the manual which doesn't give the broadness of your tutorial. And also because you've thought through the 'noob' aspect it means we can use this as a trainer for all our future operators, Cheers J

@rdev68 - yup - attach any external fx units Inputs to the send fx-send-sockets - return them via the channels (23/24) or if u want to eq the external fx units, return them via a full-featured stereo Line channel. A monitor stereo submix can be created using aux-1/2: Use aux-1 as left, and aux-2 as right - to pan something more left in submix, just turn up aux-1 (L) more than aux-2 (rL) etc - or use aux-1/2 as two seperate mono monitor sends

On the contrary I think you have a pretty damn good mic voice. Its actually been one of my favorite parts about your videos. Very relaxing and chill. May not be a good game show host, but who the hell wants to sound like that anyway. I hate when I'm watching reviews - particularly the company "official" videos - when you get that corporate sounding autobot type of voice with the high pitched inflections and artificial sittin on a rainbow kind of tone.

Hi, I know thus is an old video, but you knowledge is timeless. Thank you for delivering it in such an organized manner. I got a question for you. I know u call it a small mixer all the time but, I need a really small mixer with all this routing options and for that to be possible 8 or 10 channels would be more than enough. But all this smaller units try to give u the most amount of channels they can squeeze in but they take out the many routing possibilities. Which is what a mixing console should be made for. Versatility. Any particular model come to mind? I happen to have a zenyx 802 usb and it has the right size for me, but I would love to have pre fader sends. I would love to have inserts. No mixer has them in such a small footprint. It eould ve great if u could enlighten me. The pre sends I would use for fx loop that need to be 100% wet signal, like distortion and stuff. The inserts to half click and use as independent outs should the need arise. Please help me 🙏🙏

Awesome instructional skills. No B.S. about ANY non-relative subject matter. Now could you tell me where to find vids on the best installation of various components like vocal processors, dual channel EQ, and multiple amps. to this model? I'm Old'scool rocker got my first guitar in June of 1969. I'm pretty tech savvy and can fix most anything. But this thing was going on the shelf and break out one of the old ones because every time I added a component it behaved differently (not better) I was thinking that's why I got it for $75 but knew that I wasn't getting something right because several of those configurations were sounding good but when I added something else without changing settings it wouldn't let out a peep. The manual is garbage. And up until I found your channel the internet was useless. Thank you once again. liked, subscribed, fan for life...

You can go from the Behringer to the Pro40 via the Main Outs on the Behringer to 2 Channels on the Pro40 but you'd only get 2 channels going to your DAW (even if you have 18 mics plugged in to the Behringer). If you don't need anymore that 16 channels I'd suggest getting a Focusrite Octopre and connect that to the Pro40 via ADAT

I can't say I have anything that fancy, but for my own personal recording, I recently added the Behringer Xenyx 502 to my PC based rig. It's a very small, but useful, unit for the money.

  • @SquierStrat72

Well, it certainly added to what I can do. Before, I just had non-realtime editing software and a soundcard. Now, I have better software, a digital audio interface, and the 502. Opens up a lot of potential. And once you start understanding the signal chain, the big mixers are not as scary as they might seem at first glance. Just more inputs and better features, but the basics remain the same.

Hi! Fantastic videos and excellent information! I just bought one of these boards, and I am very much interested in the technique you briefly touched on whereby you can use a specially wired plug in the insert-I/O for a sort of makeshift direct out recording. Is there a name for this technique? An where can I find more information on this? Thank you!

@9:10 when talking about the 1/4 'output', thats just for a direct channel out correct? will that take the mixed output of that channel? And what exactly do you mean by 'wired the right way'. I just found a sliver sx2442fx. It looks great, haven't broken it out yet. Great videos. Thanks so much.

A good review and tutorial, although I admit I started feeling a little sick at the end with the constant moving and zooming in of the camera - not much you can do about that though really as you have to do it to show which bit you're talking about. Something that I am still lost on is the aux sends. I'm in a band that needs at least 4 aux sends to go to monitor wedges or in-ear monitors. BUT, the mixer didn't seem to have channel control for each aux out. How do you do 4 seperate monitor mixes, 1 for each wedge monitor? E.g. The singers, who need more of mic 1 and 2 (singer 1 & singer 2) but less lead guitar and less bass. As a drummer, I want primarily kick and vocals followed by bass and then rhythm guitar. I can't see how this can be achieved, and can't find and videos that discuss this. If you've got 4 monitors and FoH, that's effectively 5 different mixes, isn't it? Thanks. Ed.

I have tried EVERY single routing combo I can think of for the built in effects and this piss annoying buzzing and interference noises (every effects has a different noise) coming from the processors. I have NO CLUE why it's happening. I've used them perfectly fine before but do you have any ideas of what it can be??

I just found your video. Thank you for making this for those of us just learning, or, in my case *trying* to learn. Can you tell me the answer to this: I have 12 microphones on my drum and percussion rig . I have 9 of the mics on the drums, 1 mic for tubular bells, 1 mic for both timpani, and one mic for two gongs. What size mixer would I need to connect all these mics--and possibly two more overhead mics which I would like to add--up? How many channels from mic to mixer does this require? The reason I am confused is, a 10 channel mixer doesn't have ten channels for 10 separate mics, right? This where I am confused. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

  • @dancetech

you just need a mixer with one mic channel for each mic. simple. Some mixers with "16 channels" might have 12 mic channels and then 2 stereo line channels, making 16 channels in total, so just look for total mic channels in the specs.

if you go down the channel twisting the pots one by one, does ONE pot cause the jumping in volume / popping? if yes, then thats the faulty one, they can be replaced of course, but it'll be all board mounted so a strip down is required... not for the fainthearted. otherwise is it the fader? (again when moving it does the voluem jump as you describe? first you gotta find wha is the bad bit see.

Hi! I hope i can ask you an question here. Do you know why the digital effect processors get blocked when i connect the output of my (external) FX unit to the 'stereo aux returns'? I have two external units. When i connect the output of my 1st unit to the 1st stereo aux return, the first internal fx1 cannot be heard anymore (fx2 still works at this point). Now, when i plug in my 2nd FX unit in 'stereo aux return 2', the 2nd internal fx processor also quits producing audio. Are you familiar with this behaviour? I received the unit today, and i was hoping using the internal effects along with my external units. I could of course ignore the stereo returns, and just use 4 mono inputs (i have plenty!) but i am wondering what's going on here (and if this is normal behaviour). I hope you can help me out! Thanks!!!

you can send the MONO out to the bass and the main L/R to the mid/high. If they are active cabs the crossover will be built in, if passive feed the crossover from the L/R. The MONO out has a Low-pass which starts at 300hz so you can tune that to whatever low end you want from the bass box/es. Or dont use the MONO out & just feed the speakers from the main L/R only & use their own built in crossovers if active & serial connect them as usual.. or feed the man L/R out into the crossover if passive

+John k the inserts are to "insert" any processor such as a compressor into the channel. not sure if the inserts are pre-eq, check the manual. the wiring required for all 16 channels is typically a loom to a patchbay.

Is the signal at the FX1/FX2 send jacks a wet or dry signal after using the on board effects? I want to use both effects engines on the board and also go out of the two sends to an out board processor but was wondering if the signal wet or a dry signal send..Thanks for any help.

dancetech At about 26:30 you mention them but nothing is plugged into the jacks. Was just wondering if the signal at that point is a wet or dry signal from the effect send knobs from the onboard effects.

dancetech FYI..Called the tech support, It is a dry signal. It bypasses the onboard effects and sends a dry signal to FX jacks 1/2. Very cool. As you mentioned, can run second outboard gear or two more monitor mixes. Although they would be post fade but it can be done. Was debating between the sx3242 or sx3282.

depends what you want to do. You'd connect the L/R OUT of the PC to one of the stereo channels to hear the pc, but for recording things IN to the PC from the mixer, that is a bit more detailed depending what you want to do.

+Projector you can connect whatever you like.. channels 1-8 for example could be the 8 outputs from a drumbox or sampler, etc

+dancetech Sorry, I think that I didn't ask my question in the right way. What I meant to ask is how can you play a guitar for example in channel 1 when you don't have a live musician? Do you connect an MP3 Player to that channel? Now, I have seen videos where channel 1 is guitar, channel 2 is voice, etc. How are they able to play sounds in each channel without having live musicians? What type of device do they use?

  • @dancetech

    @dancetech

+Projector you either connect the mixer inputs from the outputs of drumboxes, samplers, synths etc or the mixer inputs are taking mic/line signals from real musicians.
