Behind the Walls of Clarence House (1983) | Royal History
On this day in 1983, ITN's cameras were allowed into the gardens of Clarence House to view the grounds and capture on film the groundskeepers and gardeners as they worked.
While Clarence House today serves as the London residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and has been Charles' home since 2002, it was at the time of filming in August 1983 the London home of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Before the Queen Mother, Clarence House had been home to her daughter, Princess Elizabeth. When Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II, she passed the home on to her mother.

The present King and Queen live there. It was built for the Duke of Clarence who became William IV and who refused to move to Buckingham Palace and continued living there instead. The late Queen and Prince Philip lived there before she became queen.
