It's bands like Parachute Club that put Canada on the global map of independent musicians and artists. The 80's were a gigantic awakening for Canadian music. Thank you Lorraine

No other song elicits stronger ‘Toronto in the 1980’s’ vibes than this. Classic!

Screams Toronto, Canada loudly! Makes one proud to be Canadian! Definitely one of my all-time favorites. Once listened to a CBC radio DNTO piece about the making of the song and how integral Billy Bryant was to the whole arrangement. But didn't know that the great Daniel Lanois produced it. It couldn't possibly fail to become a Classic with the likes of Lanois, Segato and Bryant etc. behind it.

I was in Toronto on tour with my band. We were doing a sound check at the now defunct Bamboo Club and this song was being played to check the sound system. As a percussionist the rhythm track caught my ear but I also like the message of the lyrics. An anthem of hope and perseverance.

A timeless tune.If it's lasted this long it will last forever. It's an anthem for the gay community and it still plays on someone's float in the pride parade every year for the last 35(?) years in Toronto. This track came out at the perfect time for me as I was coming out and I remember dancing to it following a float at my first Pride Parade. It was pure magic. Everyone was beaming with Joy! I wonder how many people this song inspired to come out. It worked for me and still fills my heart when I hear it. Thank you, Lorraine. You rock!

I absolutely love Lorraine. I new Billy for a few years before he passed and I got him to open up about the very early days and his old bands before Parachute Club. Very interesting guy.

I always liked this song from the first time I seen the video on MTV back in the day. I still remember John Goodman introducing the song on the Top 20 Countdown.

1983 was at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. I remember it as a child as a very scary and confusing time. Much like 2020 is now. Not a lot was known about the disease a lot if theories and what not. Then this song came out and added some much needed energy and relief to the stress and pressure of the day.

I got so sick of this song, since it was overly played on MuchMusic, had better songs from other groups that seemed to appear a couple of times then disappeared! The Spoons were another band that got overplayed, with crappy songs, but oddly enough were on nearly every day!

With respect, MuchMusic was one of the greatest things that ever happened to Canadian TV. So many groups that never would have been heard otherwise...so much exposure to audiences that never would have heard the music (tourists and not the usual TV audience)...so much good music that never would have crossed the border (Moonquake anyone? Parachute Club? Rush? Loverboy? Triumph?) So what exactly is your gripe?
