Behind the Scenes of Tootsie 1982 with Director Sydney Pollack part 1
Ойын-сауық
I was lucky to be friends with Sydney Pollack when I worked as his production assistant on Three Days of the Condor. We met up again when he came to New York to shoot Tootsie with Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lang.
He let me come on the set and shoot some behind the scenes footage along with a lengthy taped interview at my apartment for my local cable show The Director's Series hosted by John A. Gallagher.
This is some of the uncut footage I shot of one of the closing scenes of the film. I have to find the master tapes to improve the auto, but take note that it was the first time Sydney and Director of Photography Owen Roizman used video playback in making a film.
You might say its rare to see a director walking along side the camera while the scene is being shot, and not in a control room. The video revolution was just getting started at that time.

I miss 80's so much u can't imagine!
One of my favorite movies 🍿 One of the last movies I got to take my mom to before she passed away.If I find it playing on the TV I will stop and watch it no matter how long it's been on. I know the whole script by heart just about.
I saw Tootsie in a packed theater when it was first released. When I watch it today, I remember how the whole audience cracked up at the funniest lines. There were so many good ones. Like when Pollock says "Who wants to see a play about a couple living next to toxic waste?? They can see that in New Jersey!"
Love and miss Sydney Pollack, a brilliant and talented director AND actor. RIP sir and thank you!

Tootsie is a classic. All the elements and talent that makes an entertaining film. In fact one of the motivations I moved to NYC for 12 years. I worked at a high-end Manhattan retail store for over a decade and Sydney Pollack was a customer of mine. His last visit he told me about a little film he was about to do with George Clooney (Michael Clayton). A Casting Director, also a customer, told me after Sydney was diagnosed with cancer he decided not to seek treatment to prolong his life. Great Director.

Michael Clayton is my favorite movie! (Next to O, Brother, Where Art Thou?)
Mein Lieblingsfilm..💙
Thanks for sharing. This is one of my favourite films. Always fascinating to see what happens behind the scenes and how many people are involved
This is priceless! Thank you for sharing this. My #1 favorite movie of all time.
After watching this, it is interesting to then see the finished product of this scene. It's currently available on another KZread video, entitled "Tootsie (1982): Last Scene & End Credits".
Although it's a commercial film, it is a masterpiece. Funny with a lot to say about how women are treated.
Big fan of this movie

Thank you for sharing "... I adored and Respect his film 🎥 making genius 🏆💫
I’ve been a huge, huge fan of this movie since it came out. I also took my college acting classes right on that block of 42nd Street that they are walking on just a few years later. So this is all very interesting, including the letters scene. This all seems like so long ago, and it is I guess. Funny that all of the men’s shorts are so short! And their hair is so long! LOL. Weird to think that they are all old men now. And the few female crew members are old too of course. And Sidney Pollack is gone but he made many great films.

Yes! Those shorts!😊 Seems like a job requirement.
Thank you for this and R.I.P. Sydney Pollack. This is one of my favorite films of all time. I became obsessed (-ish) with it as an adult decades after its release. It stands the test of time (although it could never be made in this day and age despite the feminist undertones). I've heard the Pollack-Hoffman commentary on the DVD but I've never seen behind-the-scenes camcorder footage .🇺🇸👠 I re-watch "Tootsie" at least once every 18 months. Maybe I will this evening.
The most hysterical movie I have ever seen
Cuanta magia el detrás de escena...y Jessica!!! Una genia!!!❤
Gran película ❤Grandes actores Dustin Hoffman un crack ❤
Я очень люблю Тутси❤💋🥰 классный фильм 👍🌏
" I like to make her a little more attractive, can you move back a bit?"...."How about Cleveland!"....."Knock it off"...Great film.
it’s crazy that they have two big stars and a medium sized crew and the street isn’t blocked. the final cut of this scene is so good. here it looks so chaotic and impossible. this is the old school way of shooting in nyc. this would never happen today.
Lived on the exact location they are shooting 42nd/9th… Surreal to watch.
This is epic!
I watched a days acting for Jaws 4 with Michael Caine. Believe me, to ba a actor you need patience of a saint, so many long periods of getting the set right, then at a moments notice they have to act. Can be a full day to do a two minute scene.
When there were no cell phones. No texting. People actually interacted like normal humans used to

The letter part was only a few seconds in the film but they dedicated the time and thought into making it work great. That's amazing to see!
❤'d this which used to be on every Xmas (back in the day) & my VHS recording certainly never gathered dust. Quality performance by DH & Dabney Coleman etc. RIP Sydney Pollack..🔥
I feel like telling Dustin 'stop biting your nails'. I can't believe no one wanted to tell him.
Seems to be a hot day but Jessica Lange is wearing knee lenght boots. But i like it.
Jessica LANGE, not LANG.
👏🌞🌟🌟🎥🍀💖🌹👍
Who was that guy talking with Sydney with a unibrow?
New York City, nobody stops for Anything: The Pope could be walking by and they'd walk right by him! New York City is crazy
Sydney Pollack reminds me of Kramer from Seinfeld
How come mostly all directors lose their hair? Not Mr Pollack but most do.
This would be on a dvd dics call "Bonus Material" lor on the second double dics feture. Rest in peace 🕊️ Sydney Pollack 😢

This along with Some Like it Hot Mrs.Doubtfire Lazy Susan Are my favorite comedies. I guess I like women in dresses. 🤷🏿♀️ This came out the year I was supposed to graduate high school. Jessica Lange has always been my favorite female actor she’s like a cross between Marilyn Monroe & Geraldine Page, otherworldly beautiful, talented, very influenced by her mime training in Paris. She and Sam were sexy and perfect together so devastating they broke up I think due to his drinking and then his death from Lou Gehrig’s. Jessica is unrecognizable now because of all her stretching and Botox, I don’t get it, does she not see herself? Sidney was hysterical in this, genius director. Dustin Hoffman still the most talented actor, he’s a chameleon. If the allegations are true, I still feel the same about his acting. No pass for him, but, his father was brutal towards him. This is a violent terrible world for the animals and earth thanks to non-vegans and all the great artists dead or dying. I’m happy to pass myself. I’ve watched Tootsie at least 40 times through the years. One of the few things that makes me smile. 😞💔💚
Jessica is beautiful in this picture. Hoffman looks bored
Odd that this starts with the final scene of the film. And all of that crew to film a bunch of letters dropping? Holy crap.
Чего там Сидни мучается с рацией? Пусть по сотовому позвонит. ;)
