Behind the scenes of the UK's AIDS tombstone advert of the 1980's
This footage (courtesy of BFI) shows a production team creating the infamous AIDS adverts of the 1980s, which were broadcast in the UK. The national advertisements were shown on television and depicted falling tombstones, along with the government's choice slogan: "Don't die of ignorance". Those impacted by the contaminated blood scandal have been widely critical of the ad's which increased fear and stigma. They also implied that the victims were somehow ignorant for being infected with HIV by Factor VIII blood products imported by the state.

Absolutely fascinating. If memory serves, the monolith weighed 3 tonnes.
Finally, I can finally see how an icon has been made.
God, imagine if Bob Peck was the voice of the original PIF and not John Hurt.
Advert scared me as a kid
