Chace, if they go after you for the full bill, you gotta lawyer up and take them to court. Ask for a refund on the shipping, ask for the overtime pay, ask for Theron's gas money to pilot the thing home, hell, ask for the cost of your therapy bills! I had this idea where next generation charging might not be through cables. But sort of like how phone 'wireless' is, where it comes through the bottom of the EV. It might bring charge times way down sort of like how Xiaomi has done with their phones but on a bigger scale. In this case the rescue truck could even extend a plate underneath the car to charge it in almost no time

Currently direct wired connection is the best bet as it has the least losses. That being said, if tech changes, the extend-o-plate™ could work.

I hate to reply to my own post but I just had a shower thought a few minutes ago.... What if you had a charge truck and offered a service where you met people travelling long distance to help them charge at more convenient spots along their journey, kind of like a mobile bespoke charging station. The current distribution of charging stations can be spotty in a few places and it might take a while to change, meaning this could be a lucrative service.

On surface it's a good idea but practically it might not be viable (for a long time). So BEV sales are growing but the number of them on the road is rather small. And a wrecker might not be around the corner and if only a few of all wreckers can charge a car they will statistically have a very long way to travel when someone runs out of power. And what they only do would be to get to the stranded EV, stand around and wait for some time and then finally have the EV drive off to a charger. There will I guess be a lot more flatbed wreckers around than specially equipped for charging ones. So put the EV on a flatbed, drive and drop it off at the closest charger - it sorts itself out (if it's a slower charger they can charge up enough to get to a fast charger). In a BEV you ought to put in your destination and it calculates the estimated percentage of charge remaining of arrival and all charge stations in between. These are getting better and better with more factors (wind, temperature, elevations). It's not like the old days a gas car at best had a working fuel gauge and the driver only roughly knew how far the destination was and maybe unknown how many pump stations in between. So unless being an idiot it's probably way fewer people today being stranded in their EVs than those who ran out of gass way back (in ratio to number of drivers). Once BEV gets really plentiful then the wheel-lift wreckers/integrated ones might have a use if they can do V2V or if it's a diesel, a big generator. But not this big thing Edison has an e-axle for. So I don't think Edison should built into something to rescue BEVs that have gotten out of power, better with a service truck.

I love that idea of a Wrecker with a level 3-4 fast charger... Especially as electric vehicles become more and more common I think that'll become a necessity for most towing companies

Here in the states it’s called “exclusive use”. There’s dirt bags that will still try to fill the deck but it gets the point across to the good carriers. You pay for the whole deck, you get the whole deck. You pay for expedite you get it rickety tick.

Got a neighbor that got screwed on that. Paid for the whole trailer for exclusive use and expedite. They got there with another unit on it that was going to a nearby place. He knew who it was and found out they also paid for the whole trailer and expedite. If they would of communicated and said they'd shave a bit off the cost with a nearby load, they'd go for it. But lying, they're going after them. But it'll probably just be another carrier that drops off the face of the earth.

I dig your idea of a service truck with a generator and welding setup. I don't work in logging or trucking, but knowing enough people in those industries, I know that stuff breaks down all the time, and it would be interesting to see the contrast of it to a traditional service truck.

Make sure you can tap the full output of the traction generator as 60Hz AC. Would let the truck pinch-hit as a generator when needed. Also, heard of a few ranchers who run all corded tools out in the field. They find a generator and extension cords less hassle than broken/dead battery operated tools.

Forklifts are amazing. Just get an old 4t lift, we had one on our farm, cost us $1500 and was used almost daily. We put motors in and out of tractors and trucks. You don’t have to get a flash one, just one that works.

For their use, a telehandler. But ones with good hydraulics are big bucks and they need to have tight hydraulics when working around people and really heavy pieces. I was thinking along the same lines though; would've been faster and safer by just leaving the transport over near the road. If I had the money, I would just rent them one.

@PD-yd3fr You can be like that with your truck. In my career I've both accepted help getting into/out of tricky places, AND offered... either to just spot, give advice or put it in/pull it out. Pobody's Nerfect, and some unique spots, you just trust someone that does it regularly vs once in a blue moon...

I've done load and unload in farmland, don't get a forklift unless you get ramps and a concrete pad. Get a telehandler with a 48ft reach. You can load and unload a whole trailer anywhere. Smaller telehandlers just mean you're going to be dragging stuff out if it's in the back.

Hey, I'm a tow operator and would love to be able to provide real world testing for your medium duty wrecker idea. The more you talked about it the bigger my smile got. You've got a huge fan of the idea here in Oklahoma, USA.

I think its very important to notice EVERYONE! how pro the crew stayed when not only unloading but backing the damn TRUCK IN FOR THAT FELLA... Regardless of his ethnics they stayed nice and pro and focused! that truly Canadian boys damn fine job!

I would like to see a edison motors service truck. That way if a edison truck breaks down within reason from your HQ you can go out and have all the tools needed to fix it or charge it.

I suspect a lawyer would tell you to pay the bill then sue for breach of contract plus legal fees and damages, (overtime etc.) The court system doesn’t look kindly on nonpayment of bills, even if you are right.

I would put the money in escrow, if you pay the full amount will struggle forever getting it back.

Make one of those medium duty service trucks, with the service crane, welder, air compressor and such on it. Heck, even add one of your light towers on it! I'm sure there are companies doing service work that do tons of stop-and-go, and lots of idle time. Perfect for an electric truck.

Sounds like you got a heck of a partner in flowdraulic. When production ramps up and you get a facility built, you might see if they'd go partway in on it with you. That way they can do all the same testing with their people in house

I would kill to have an edison F350 for everyday...i also move my RV every 3 months, occasionally across the whole US. Me & the wife live in it full-time, she's a travel nurse, and i do whatever on the side (usually heavy industry stuff; i always have my tools & everything with me in the bed).

The third axle, I would say, set it up for whatever type of truck will be the Handi S for Anderson motors usage. They also can show off its function. It just looks good for you to be using your own product and putting them through their paces.

I already knew it arrived safe and still felt anxious watching it unload...

This company has been noted and will not be used by our company. Hope it works out eventually.

Chase In my Army Career, I had two of the most incredible pieces of equipment. I was a Heavy Construction Equipment Repairer (62B) (first of 4 MOS’s I have) The first one was a “Contact Truck” the old Dodge pickup with the toolbox (service body) mounted. On board I had a huge amount of stuff, beginning with the tool chest. Early on it was all SAE but we got metrics eventually… all the tools didn’t fit in the available spaces. It just had the look of an old Craftsman 7 or 9 drawer box. Then there was the 4 cylinder Air cooled Wisconsin powered Welder / Generator, with body outlets inside and out, (4 corners outside single plugs and 3 outlets in the back 120vAC) the old Welder… that was a great beast Lincoln had DC and AC, and possibly 500 Amps on one version (it could drain the entire gasoline tank in under 6 hours (24 gallons and was the trucks fuel tank) I did it ! Others were 250 Amps or 300.??? Also had A 220 volt 50 amp 30 amp outlets and a quad 120 outlet. In the back was a 220 volt Air compressor but 2 remote tanks the size of semi truck air tanks. Sucks for using a 1” impact but ran at 150 psi. Then there was 4 remote flood lights round based and held in place by wing nuts and washers. The heavy rubber extension cords were all black. The rear drop down tailgate featured a good size 6” mechanic Vice and twin bi-fold doors for security and not so much weather protection. Then there’s the HSTRU Trailer. It would make almost any hydraulic or Air hose that you could use for construction equipment, all the fittings barbs and nuts for assembling them with the gear reduction assembly machine, plus bending and flaring all sorts of hard metal or soft metal lines, including a high flow pump and filter system to clean out hydraulic fluid systems. Save a pump or two and hours of R&R plus down time for equipment repairs and maintenance, simply by installing the lines to clean out the pipes lines, motors, etc of your Fluid dynamics, 5 micron and 20 microns filters. Thousands of gallons of oil could be saved by basically putting a artificial Kidney in the system temporarily. Top off, take the before and after oil samples and send it! Could certainly be used for the basis of anti freeze / Coolant scrubber for the batteries too! Glad it’s safe and you have a great chance to make it. I know you’re all stressed out but please don’t forget to call a safety stop to get everybody a decompress time. They will be much more effective than if you don’t. And explain it that all work and no play can kill a team!!!

I think a service truck to service the upcoming trucks would be ideal, give it extra battery capacity, on board air, 240/120 vac outputs maybe a small mounted crane.

The amount of transparency from your company is amazing to see! I appreciate it so much! That is one thing that makes me so interested in your pickup conversions.

As for the extra axle I think you should order one more and convert an old 895 Versatile (Canadian built) tractor to diesel electric and sell it to a farmer in Alberta or Saskatchewan. Some big tractors were built with truck engines ,truck transmission, and truck rear ends should be a fairly easy swap to diesel electric

I am so sorry that the current situation of bad trucking (both drivers and brokers) hit you too. I had to move a 1982 Datsun 280zx rolling chassis from cali to the midwest here recently and it was an absolute fucking nightmare. I (unfortunately) hired a broker named Ace Auto Freight to do it. First, they bait-and-switched me on the price (doubled it from $600 to $1200) the day before pickup. Then, the first driver they sent out didn't show up on the first day. The second day, they show up but don't have a winch to put it on the trailer! The next driver they sent out picked it up and headed my way. The night before they arrived, they said "Have your forklift or crane ready to pick the car up off my trailer tomorrow"... Turns out, they loaded two more disabled vehicles onto the trailer behind my car and they took out some suspension bolts to drop the back of the car onto its bump stops to make room to clear the bumper of the truck behind my car, and the picture they sent scared the piss out of me because it looked like they'd dropped the nose of that truck onto the tail of my car. In order to get my car off, I had to hire a damned flatbed tow truck to pull my car off the FRONT END OF THEIR TRAILER!.. At my own expense! And then at the end of the day, the driver wanted $50 more than agreed upon at delivery! It was absolutely fucking bonkers...

fire/rescue/command unit truck would be pretty cool for a prototype/ step you into another possible market aswell.

I work in the live event industry (concerts, lighting, sound, that kind of stuff) and we often use a diesel generator for 3 phase power, and bring all of our equipment in a box truck. I think it would be super awesome if you could create a box truck that has the 3 phase output available to use for those purposes! I know our company would want one, or three!!!

At least buddy was cool with someone else trying to back it in I wouldn't wanna jack a 53 footer into a yard like that good skills !

For the extra axle you should do the full service truck. If a large company is sold on the idea of custom log trucks at fleet scale they will be looking for a service truck set up to take care of those trucks. And who better to buy a service truck from than those who are building the trucks.

The obvious thing to do with the extra axle is definitely a service truck with an onboard charger - preferably one with a wrecker underreach rated to tow your early production trucks, if you've got the axle weight headroom. Build it on a regular on-highway medium duty cab. You'll need one for the early production trucks, and it'll double up as a marketing tool for conversions and other applications - pipeliners, towing, heavy equipment service, that sort of thing.

I just thought of something dumb. Since your axles don't have drive shafts, why couldn't you make a drop axle that also acts as a drive axle. Like if your on the highway going to your logging destination you could have that rear drive axle up to save on energy, and then when you need that extra axle you have it. Would that be possible? Or would that just not save enough?

Don't think the energy savings would be worth the cost of the extra axle. I DO think having a driving drop axle would help a lot on poor roads when fully loaded.

CH would be wise to do what ever it takes to make you very happy. Reputations are important and they may have just Bud Iit themselves.

For the extra axle: Isuzu NRR or Mitsubishu Fuso FG with a flat bed. Call it a farm truck to move anything everything a farm needs

Pay them the lower rate. Your contract said express without stopping. They did not fulfill the contract.

What you need is a small to medium telehandler, they work great in tight spots and y'uns coulda had that unloaded in 30 minutes. Some even have the winch system behind the main lift so you can use straps and whatnot.

As someone in the welding and service truck work for 20 years I soooooo want to see yall do a service rig. And while the EV rescue truck would be kind of a funky little concept the hybrid electric service truck actually has real-world potential because it would be so nice to have a welding rig on site sitting silent while your working without the welder engine running the air compressor engine sitting there idling, truck engine idling for your crane, all of it in silent operation and you could even have a level 3 fast charger cable in a side box so it could charge an electric vehicle as a service call

You don't need an expensive forklift attachment! You can use a set of forks that hang over the bucket, and your only addition is to weld on two to three hooks on the rear top of the bucket. It'll be forks on a budget!

I love that in the videos they use "Shake hands with Danger" track.

That's a lot of axle for something small. But yes, some sort of maxed out service truck would be cool. Even running a hydraulic pump off an electric motor instead of a PTO would solve a bunch of off road adventuring catastrophes. I've envisioned my old Tandem Tandem C500 boom truck converted.

The stuff is there now, just be greatful nothing is damaged. Concentrate on getting the gear fitted, and then take CH to the cleaners over the winter. Everything sorts itself out in the end, if it's not sorted, you are not at the end.! I'm glad to see that even the kids were involved in the truck-hunting expedition.!

Actually pretty uncommon.

I'm a screen printer and promo apparel decorator. Sometimes I outsource jobs due to a variety of reasons; timing, tooling, quantity, decoration method, etc. But I ALWAYS tell the customer before doing so and I only tack on like a 10% broker fee. That is INSANELY scummy to not tell someone you're outsourcing and taking half the profits for doing jack shit. especially when shit hit the fan and you didn't lift a finger. Normally if I outsource and shit starts going sideways, I'm the first one to jump on that grenade. Idk... maybe that's what it means to have a shred of integrity?

Seeings that I’m a trucker ready to retire I would like to see a nice fully electrified motor home with diesel generator and solar panels atop that extra axle. Wouldn’t mind cruising North America in one of those.

To be fair, if you've got a weird, complicated approach that's way out of the ordinary, expecting the poor long-haul driver to tackle that in quick time is just mean. I've seen a few grizzled veterans over the years who'll make their rigs dance on the tip of a pin, but your average driver probably hates this sort of situation with a passion. If at all possible, getting one of your own to do the deed just makes sense - just like how they have specialist Harbor Pilots whose entire (very well paid) job is to hop on to giant cruise liners, tankers, even WARSHIPS and bring them safely those last few miles to the dock in difficult or dangerous ports all over the world!

I like the idea that an Edison tow truck could pull up and save a Tesla that ran out of charge.

I would recommend a Princeton or Moffat three-wheeled forklift. They have a great capacity for their size and maneuverability. Make a kitted out service truck

Light duty wrecker with the fast charger on board sounds like a great idea to me! But I’m torn cuz it’d be awesome to see this axle under a service truck setup to help rescue broken down logging equipment

You don’t need a forklift chace, you need a rotating telehandler. Look into used magni 5.21-5.25 rth. 11000lbs of lifting capacity, and enough extension to reach fully into a 53ft semi trailer. Also they have a whole smorgasbord of attachments that can do anything you want. Like pivoting forks. Park that rig behind a trailer and unload every piece off the trailer and to anywhere within 67 feet of the magni 5.25rth without moving the magni from where you parked it. Also it can be a crane.

You need to get yourself a lull (boom lift). For unloads and for assembly. Would be a lot smoother than the backhoe.

Kudos for speaking out publicly. We’ve been burned by providers many times and I’ve had conversations like this, but never had the courage to post and share so that is small business owners are treated better!

Commentary: I like the way you guys offer commentary on a situation.

You don't need a forklift. You need forks for your backhoe. And yes it is a quick detach... You have a hinged bucket. Open the bucket and make forks that fit around the lip of the bucket. Then you just pinch to lock.... You can't push down but you can lift.

An electric service truck would be cool. Maybe with a Miller enpak or some small diesel generator so you don't have to run the C9 if you need power when the batteries are dead. I would love to have a hybrid service truck one day when I have to replace my F800.

Im a 3rd gen trucker. 47 yrs in a cab. "CLEAN UP YOUR YARD" So trucks can come in to Load & Unload. If you order Vital Equipment haul it yourself Brother. Life is easier if your in Control. Im liking what your building but Take Control Boss.

Get a pallet jack and a fork lift. I was doing shopping and receiving as a part of my job, and I could move so much material by myself with a little rink a dink forklift and a pallet jack. I unloaded 9 pallets in 21 minutes with the driver moving them to the back with a pallet jack. Heavy pallets full of hubs and bearings and such. It’s the right tool for the job bar none.

You guys are totally awsome and I can honestly see you building tons of trucks best idea for big trucks in a long time. But that extra axle you could retrofit a motor home and I think they would sell like hot cakes

Every company has to start somewhere, and it make a hell of a lot more sense to keep facilities costs down in the beginning. Maybe you guys could dig out a pit type loading dock with that backhoe for the time being.

Diesel electric welding rig would be bad ass!
