The original meaning of rock 'n roll is xes starting with "race music" in the 1940s and that is how Black listeners interpreted Rock With You. Other later songs were Freddie Jackson's Rock Me Tonight (For Old Time's Sake) and Bobby Brown's Rock Witcha.

"Rock With You" is not only one of MJ's best but it's one of the greatest songs of all time. It's a timeless song. I never really considered it a Disco song. It has Disco elements but with "Rock With You" and the other songs from Off The Wall they had a uniqueness about them that makes them stand out from other songs from that era.

@@FedeRhodes everyone was rockin perms in the 80’s. MJ just rocked them throughout like Prince did. The insecurities with his looks came from having vitiligo. If you had money and were losing the way you looked you would probably look into ways of looking most to your fitting. He also purchased one of the 6 main major corporations in owning Sony’s catalog and the Beatles and Eminem’s and has their earning donated to children hospitals and black causes. If you look at a lot of his music videos, he paid for em and were pro black. He also made moves to help Nelson Mandela get out of prison and donated a lot to his causes. His kids and other black celebrities have said he’s a pan Africanists. He dated 3 women publicly. Stephanie Mills, Brooke Shields and Lisa Marie Presley. He also dated Diana Ross. There’s a rumor that went around he only started dating where women after Diana left him for a white man. Point is, he’s been with sistas too. If you watch his videos he’s had black women in all of his videos outside of when Lisa Marie. Moral of the story. Don’t put anything into looks. Especially when you know a person is going through things you can’t imagine.

Briscoe - let me paraphrase the story. According to Jermaine, he said Michael wrote it because Jackie's wife, Enid Adren Spann Jackson, and Hazel Gordy Jackson could never get alone with each other on tour. They were always very catty to each other. Talking back to each other over petty things. Hazel said, " She is always trying to start something with me." 1. You have to remember, Hazel was Motown royalty that married Jermaine Jackson. She always had her own limousine supplied by poppa Gordy. So in the early days of the J5 they had tour buses. All the other wives rode on busses but not Ms. Hazel Gordy Jackson. 2. Enid spoke out about it not being fair, etc.. Hazel only replied," Tough tittie Enid, you must don't remember who I am. I am a G-O-R-D-Y, and honey we don't ride buses." Hazel being the daughter of Berry Gordy grew up rich

@@valvacious2793 that's interesting because I heard it was about Latoya. The wives of her brothers were always starting stuff with her and jealous because she was close to them back in the 80's early on. It was rumored to be in Michael's book moonwalker. But either way its a good song.

I love Michael Jackson's Rock With You. One of my favorites from the Off the Wall album. Watching this video really gave me insight into the music scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s and how Off the Wall's debut correlated with it. I felt that Rock With You was somewhat an indicator of the direction MJ was going to with his solo career as well as music was concerned. Plus I believe that Off the Wall, as an album, paved the way for Thriller.

The song was written by Rod Temperton from the group Heatwave. In fact, it sounds like they could've done this. But Michael kills it..as always...the production is slick and the rest is history.
