I love his straight lines and his ability to draw each shape so that they fit together almost perfectly - like a computer. A true sign of a scientist

The reason for the behaviour of the bees that uses the diagonal arrangment of the "hexagon" (or whatever the shape of their tail is, if you like) in order to build the full-scale beehive would be more plausible choice of argument I think...
They are trying to make cylinders, the shape of their own body and that of the larva. And when you squish cylinders together on all sides, it flattens them into hexagons.

not true there are two theories on how they shape their cells and neither one is close to yours for the simple reason that if the bees initially built the cells like cylinders, space and wax would be wasted anyway which would defeat the point of doing the cells in an hexagon shape in the first place.
I really love this ... perfection in nature... the master design template
While I was watching this video I found it amazing why the bees use the hexagons. I found out that is was because it is more efficient on saving the wax that they use. It is even cool that there is a mathematical formula that even show that it is more efficient.

Arguably, especially in the philosophy class when it comes to the verification process to conclude some theses from a deductive viewpoint..
i was wearing headphones, and when the bees were buzzing i was like WTF!!!! lmao
Beautiful ✨️ 🐝
i love bees they cute and fluffy, if i see on struggling on the floor i'll pick it up and carry it to some flower filled area ^^

by whom?
@madass21 Not when they are in a beehive. They build onto a sheet of wax in a wooden frame, which fits neatly into the hive. The Beekeeper is holding one of the frames. The wax sheet has hexagonal markings on it to encourage the bees but they would build the comb that way anyway.
Not only do they build hexagonal cells in a grid, they build the grids back-to-back so they interlock. And they do this in the dark.
Isn't the hexagon shape "just" the natural deformation when building holes so close together? Which stops deforming when reaching the strongest shape. It's still extremely impressive, but i don't think they're making hexagons intentionally.

YES THANK YOU
You got more options than three if you need periodicity. Look at the Bravais structures and then you'll find 7 different lattice which continuously fits each other.
Great observation!
I think having a 'Save the Bees' bumper sticker is quite appropriate at this point, no?
'with a little help of evolution, they worked it out themselves millions of years ago'... hilarious!
Good job bro, we used it in math class !!! :)))))))))))))))
once the number formulas where shown i was lost
@fightforthislove1000 thats a wasp, when a bee stings its stinger is ripped from its body and the bee dies
What does the N stand for? the number of sides of each figure? and what do those numbers represent?? perimeter...area?
What surface are they building on wood ?
The hexagon MAY be a strong structure, but not as strong as a square.=D
Well, as i have a master in math i do like to think that my math are decent enough but i disagree with you here my friend. You can change the size of something as much as you want but the shape you can give to t is simply limited. Huge number of possibilities yes, but it does it finite.
@sapphiretiger1 i knew that, just not the part about the wasp still stings when it dies and not the bee
Don't know what point you're trying to say here. The queen bee could have passed on the trait of building hexagonal shapes and then produced offspring to create the colony. Who knows? Maybe bees built weird, odd looking hives before natural selection took its course and now we have bees that's around here today.
Very vague explanation. How do you compare 'efficiency' here? wax usage compared between triangles, squares and hexagons with the same area? I mean I can cover a fixed area using less wax with squares if im allowed to choose the size of the cell...
@lostn65
8 жыл бұрын
+Wim miW It's not the area but the perimeter. Longer perimeter means more wax is being used to create the structure. Hexes were calculated to have smaller perimeters for the size than triangles or squares, so more efficient wax to honey ratio.
Well said! :D
That is crazy! Makes me feel a sense of correctness.
@EurofighterVsRaptor God is telling the bees how to make the hive.
I hope people understand the difference between science and religion. They have nothing to do with each other, but people keep insisting there is a correlation. Science in clear context is the study to find how things are made, what makes a particular natural phenomenon work, and why they occur through various explanation and experiments. Religion asks a totally different question from science as it tries to answer the question WHO OR WHAT STARTED IT ALL? HOW did it all begin?
can i have the math equation for the hexagons, squares and triangle please
@bananian
7 жыл бұрын
it's just a ratio between the perimeters and their areas. and you assume all sides are of equal lengths. so for a square, the perimeter formula would be 4a while area would be a^2. if you think about it, the hexagon is just 6 triangles put together but with 6 sides removed in the middle. this gives more area while reducing the amount of wax needed to create the storage space and still be able to pack together without gaps.
uhhh... they are hexagons not because "it is in their dna". I remember seeing a documentary on the reason why they are hexagon. it's because they naturally build a circle shape. when they circles are pushed together they become hexagons. correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a much better explanation than what was provided in this video
awesome😁
That's the power of God baby.
@Doubledig Oh i thought they eat anything, metal hexagons or maybe wood xD
It is circles, not hexagon.

lol, there isn't. You can only create that many shapes, it's finite.
@fightforthislove1000 bees dont sting without provocation, they prefer life so they wont sting me if i show no stupid actions towards them :P

Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "build beehive" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Tiyia Beehive Basophilic - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my m8 got amazing results with it.
Evolution my arse.
Intuitive instinct would be more precise. Evolution is used far too much to describe matters it is incapable of comprehending. It is a minor player in the majesty of the grand scheme of things and used far too often to veil ignorance. "We don't have a clue what's going on and in order to avoid looking like complete idiots we'd best use a word that should impress the non- thinking viewers...evolution is usually chosen. Thankfully the BBC series 'The Code' avoided the cop out, for the most part.
Why? How is it any better? Does it hold up to scrutiny? Is it so elevated to god status that it cannot be challenged?
Actually bees don't make the hexagonal structure. Bees produce them circular and the wax itself changes shape afterwards: nature.com/news/how-honeycombs-can-build-themselves-1.13398
If you believe they've "evolved" that's fine but don't please don't present it as if it's fact.
math formula*
2:44 Seriously??!??? It seems it should be that shape simply because the bees are really the good engineers/builders with one very poor tool - Their body!!. What else on earth can the bees use to build the holes in their beehives?! Triangular or squarish forms with their oval body? They dip and press their bellies to the beeswax to make these holes. Diagonal arrangement seems to deform the shape made there by the stamp-like formula of the bees' tails. I think it is actually not HEXAGON but simply just the shape of their body in the strictest sense. The bees wouldn't theorise, just use the easiest most economical means to build their homes. When the theory is applied to the aircraft wings I think it would be more plausible and sensical. But seriously, in the nature?!?!
; ...view that should undergo the same scrutiny as anything else. I'd like to think for myself and be able to challenge other ideas. This should be encouraged in this day and age. This video is more about buttressing evolution and the push for the idea that the scholars have all the answers and we should blindly go to them for all the answers in nature.
...the dearth or winter. I'm not a mathmetician but to me its very elementary. Other shapes just wont allow all thats needed in a hive. Most all other bee, wasp, hornets, etc. use a hexagon. As stated below, the insides of the cells are circular needed for brood. I know my comment will irk many, but why do they always have to make sure to state that evolution helped it along? And no proof whatsoever given except the ol' "millions of years ago" line...
k.

@MasterMalli So, evolution is nonsense to you?
Who are you talking to? Talk about bees.

Evolution being ever the conjecture answer. If it was evolution, what was the former design before hexagons? Is it so unbelievable that God created them that way from the beginning? There's no other way they could have built it more efficiently but a hexagon. Its the fastest, strongest, most versatile design to hold honey, and brood interchangeably. The nectar is usually short period so honey bees needs to make comb fast to fill it with enough food stores and brood to make it through...

god being the answer for you
***** Nothing funny about that, evolution is smarter than all of us.
better to say evolution than to talk about some fairy tale figures like god or santa claus.
I love how the narrator shoves the evolution part into it instead of saying how wonderful has God created the bee. Evolution theory is solely designed to push God out of humans lives you cannot believe in a creator and then say evolution did it.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Romans 1:20-21
