    I bought a ukulele yesterday in as attempt to beat the coronavirus lockdown boredom. I've been on youtube all day trying different 'beginner' tutorials and yours is by far the best. No complicated language, very clear and concise direction, and your voice is super gentle and patient somehow! Thanks so much. I watched and played along three times and by the third I was able to go through without any mistakes.

    You encouraged my wife and got her excited about learning ukulele. She never had a background in music whereas my daughter and I did. Well, my daughter gave us a ukulele, and I bought our son a trumpet. So while we were in the music store picking up valve oil for my son and trombone slide cream for myself, she asked Charlie Daniels about trumpet lessons while I talked with a tech about doing a better setup for my old 12 string guitars, a martin I had been using as a 6 string and a Goya. I missed music and pulled out my trombone and today I found your tutorials and showed them to my wife. After she started picking up four very basic chords, I grabbed my Martin and slowly and quietly played along with her to encourage her and she loved it. We still have my mom’s piano and violin and my brother’s and my synths. So we’re getting encouraged. I was once a musician but was afraid going professional would be hard on family life, so professionally I ended up a math/computer/IT/AI professional and some friends were disappointed and a little mad at me, and many continued to see me as a trombone player. At church, I backed away preferring to sing with the guitar and for a bit I led the choir until a close friend and singer, my prayer partner suddenly passed away. We took care of my little brother, Mom, and Dad during their last days and lost another close friend to Covid and studied AI intensely for a few years. We need to enjoy life and do a little music again. Thank you for the tutorial.

    This was my first song. All the other ukulele tutorials on KZread didn’t work except this one. It was nice how she started from the very basics, because I didn’t even know any chords before I saw this video! Also I like how you’re always smiling :D I only have one problem: my fingers have tons of blisters from all that strumming. Do you know how to help that?

    On your strumming hand? I try to hit the strings with my nails. Eventually your fingers and hands build up and get used to it. Just take it easy and practice a little bit each day. :)

  • @StephanieDouglassMusic

    At the time I recorded this I used a tuner on my phone. Most beginner ukes seem to come with tuners nowadays, but if yours didn't, I would look up the Snark chromatic tuner.

  • @StephanieDouglassMusic

    @StephanieDouglassMusic

    It's really hard to replace the G7 chord. The other option would be G, which I think is harder. I'd suggest just taking it super slow. If I'm going too fast in the video you can actually slow down the speed. It's normal to find this challenging, but it will get easier. Just do it very slowly for a few minutes, every day.
